The Modern Period took place during the 20th century, from the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. It is one of the most important time periods in human history, and for many reasons. With the beginning of a new era, there was change, with new technology advances like cars, telephones, and electricity, the Modern Period was a huge leap for mankind, it changed the way of life that people were used to at the time. But the reason why the Modern Period is remembered and an important time period from human history, is because of the three major wars that took place, that not only impacted Great Britain, but the entire world, World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. These three wars helped changed the way on how humans saw, and interacted with the world, many started to wonder about the meaning of life, and what is life, what is death, it was much different route than the Victorian Age. This change of perspective is most noticeable in literature and art from that time period, and it shows not only how times were back then a century ago, but also how it felt to live those moments, how it felt to experience war, and how it felt to wonder about your existence, and your life.
One important year in the Modern Age is 1914, when the Great War broke out, later called World War I. This is an important time during the Modern Age, because it started to change the perspective of the world in people’s eyes, and people started to look within
The 1920’s is sometimes referred to as the “Roaring Twenties,” or “The Era of Wonderful Nonsense.” The nonsense this phrase is referring to is the style and boldness of the new kind of rebel: the flapper. In the 1920’s the flappers shocked everyone and set the path for other people who yearned to stand out and be different. The flappers certainly contrasted the generation before them, but that did not happen overnight.
This Mini-Q asks you to explore how this exciting and important era changed the concept of what it
The early 1900s were filled with many new social ideas and changes. New faces arose during this time, and many new ideas changed the shape of society. Among these were race relations, the role of women in society, and the ever-heated modernism versus fundamentalism debate.
There were changes in the economy, technology and people’s views on morals that made changed the society completely. The economy increased greatly causing new business to form and money was spent on personal items that were not necessary for one’s lifestyle such as cars, alcohol and clothing. With all of the increased spending during the early twenties it generated the stock market to crash within a decade later. All of the new technology led to the design of new cars, better medicines, and educated people on new ideas and problems. The excitement formed by the new technology and the thriving economy it gave women a new sense on life.
For example, women in today’s society play just as an important role as men do, which is a great contribution from the 1920s decade. The expectations have changed and women are now held at equal standards in most respects. The average woman goes to college, gets a degree, and establishes a life of her own before she is expected to start a family. Furthermore, the influence of the entertainment industry has also been present in America’s culture through the many decades after the 1920s. The radio became a way for society to get in tune with pop culture.
During the 1800s and 1900s many key events are going on both foreign and domestic. Both WWI and WWII will include many of the world's most powerful nations in all out war with the allies and axis powers. Also, America is dealing with large racial tensions at home. The Civil Rights Movement was a key event in America’s history that fought for both racial rights and women’s rights. Another event that was the Women’s Rights Movement that both men and women participated in to advocate for women's voting rights, the right for women to work the same jobs as men, and many other things.
Changes and continuities from the classical to the post-classical cover a wide range of political, cultural, religious and economic shifts as populations grew and societies became more complex. The classical empires of Rome, Han China, Gupta India and Archaemenid Persia fell due to external and internal forces and were replaced by the larger empires of the post classical Byzantine; Tsui, Tang and Song in China and the Caliphates in Persia. Only India did not return to an over reaching centralized empire. During the post-classical Dar el-Islam united much of Eurasia with a single religious adherence to Islam. Also, the largest empire the world was ever to see, the Mongols, rose during the

The styles we call High Renaissance, Baroque style, Scientific Reformation, The Enlightenment Era, and The Romantic Era are all shaped by historical forces, the most significant being the Protestant Reformation’s successful challenge to the spiritual and political power of the Church. Martin Luther, son of a rural coal miner had a mass impact in all these eras but Scientific Reformation was more prominent than the rest. Luther was a German monk and Professor of Theology at the University of Wittenberg. Luther’s studies were put on hold by a political crisis in Augustinians. He found himself agitated due to the corruption and lack of spirituality he saw in Rome. He saw openly corrupt priests who would taunt the rituals of their faith. Luther sparked the Reformation in 1517 by posting his "95 Theses" on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. The 95 theses were a list of statements which expressed Luther's concerns about many Church practices. These ‘Theses’ traveled around Europe. He felt in a manner, that the church was not always right. He did not believe that the Pope was spiritual heir to Saint peter. The Church known now as the Roman Catholic Church was very powerful politically and spiritually in Western Europe. I believed that Martin Luther Help spark the Scientific Era was due to the fact when he mad the 95Theses people began to second guess themselves. People began to have changes in thought & belief.

The transition of Medieval to Modern happened over a long period of time. The middle ages marked a dark time in Europe’s history, and the people were anxious to get out. The Renaissance began, and art emerged to create a brighter society. During the Reformation, the country shifted away from the Roman Catholic Church, and many Protestant religions emerged. The Scientific Revolution also marked a change in medical to modern by creating new ways to look at the world and mathematics. The Age of Discovery marked yet another change in Medical to modern Europe when new technologies emerged in order to navigate around the world. Along with many other rulers, King Louis XIV changed France into a country looking to expand, which differed from
When we are young we mostly treat each other the same. As we form our own opinions, while we grow, we naturally start to judge each other on merit; how we present ourselves. During the Edwardian era this was accomplished with greater ease due to the strict fashion and the use of corsets in everyday life, which was the last era that this occurred. This is presented strongly in the novel ‘Kipps: The Story of a Simple Soul' (Wells, H.G. 1905) which was later adapted into a musical and film, titled ‘Half a Sixpence' (Schneer, C.H. & Sidney, G. 1967). The book and the film both present a realistic view of the separation through cultural class, it also represents how sudden wealth can dramatically change you and your outlook on people, objects, mannerisms,
