Twilight
Twilight, is a movie known by many people, directed by Catherine Hardwicke in 2008. Twilight is just the first of many movies in the series, “The Twilight Saga”. Isabella “Bella” Swan (Kristen Stewart), the main character, is a teenage girl, she is moving from her loved home in sunny and warm Arizona with her mom, to Forks, a always rainy and dreary small town in the state of Washington to live with her father. When she goes to school she meets Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) a vampire, when she first sees him she thinks something is different but something about him is attractive to him. Edward and Bella have never talked to each other but the director shows the viewer the awkward tension the characters are feeling.

Eventually, Bella and Edward had fallen in love with each other. Edward told her that he is a vampire. At this part of the movie the viewer already know he is and Bella has an idea that he is as well. But, it is an important part to the movie because it shows the viewer how Edward tells her how he really does not want to hurt her but it is hard for him because he can 't read her thoughts, Bella is not scared at all. But when the viewer watches the film they want to see Bella’s reaction and how Edward responds to it. This is a very meaningful part of the movie and was a great way to show how Bella wasn’t frightened that Edward was a vampire and how she trusted him greatly. Bella also knew that Edward would not harm her in any way. Even though Edward was not sure of himself that he had what it takes to be strong and not change Bella’s life forever, by turning her into his kind, a vampire.
There are many formal film techniques used by the director in Twilight. Such as CGI. In order to portray the supernatural effects the director uses CGI. In the beginning of the film the director uses an establishing shot to show where the movie is taking place. It shows Arizona and then fades into showing how different the small town of Forks is. There countless film techniques in Twilight, but another important one would be a high angle shot when Edward is standing up in a tree and the camera is placed on Bella looking up
The film Moonlight was released October 21, 2016. Moonlight is all African American cast, and was awarded over 25 awards including the Academy Award for best picture. This film is a coming of age story that follows the dramatic ups and downs of the life of Chiron, a young Africa American man growing up in Miami. The plot begins from the time he is in elementary school to the time he reaches adulthood. The plot is structured in three stages of the life of Chiron and touches on the topics of the struggle of dysfunctional households via socialization, sexuality and sexual identity, physical and emotion abuse, and the process of accepting ones self.
This is a criticism of Moonlight, a film directed by Barry Jenkins. It is a coming-of-age story, telling the journey of a young gay black man named Chiron. Through linear character development the film follows a young Chiron from adolescence into adulthood while growing up with alpha males in Miamis black ghettos. The Story is told in three parts, with a different actor playing the lead role in each section: a young Chiron named “Little”, as a teen named “Chiron”, and an adult named “Black”. Despite a compelling lead performance by Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris, and its great soundtrack, Moonlight falls flat and never gets out of the shadow of its typical cliche plot, all the while, the film continued to never overcome the obstacle of
The movie Before Night Falls directed by Julian Schnabel offers viewers a glimpse of how the homosexual community in Cuba was being mistreated under Fidel Castro’s regime. The true story is told in the eyes of Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas. The film depicts Arenas life in Cuba and all of the awful experiences that he had to deal with as a homosexual. Eventually he was arrested for false accusations of being a molester, however, he was actually under arrest for being a homosexual. Between the 1930s and 1990s, the Communist Cuba was abusive to the LGBT community as shown in their actions of harassment towards homosexuals, imprisoning the homosexuals, or sending them to re-education camps.
The Ordeal in this film is that Edward can't leave Bella alone because since she is so prone to danger he feels the need to stay with her and protect her. James the trickster, lures Bella to him by telling her that he has captured her mom and makes her leave the Cullen family without them knowing. James leads her to an old ballet studio to kill her. The Cullen’s show up. The only problem is that James has already bitten Bella. If Edward doesn't suck the venom infected blood out of her, she'll become a vampire. A perfect
Another important scene in the book is when Bella goes to Port Angeles with Jessica and Angela to help them pick out dresses and to also get a new book. She gets lost on her way back to meet her friends for dinner. Lost with four men are following her, Edward comes out of nowhere to rescue her. He fishtails around a corner and stops with the passenger door open next to Bella. He tells her to talk about something random to distract him from going back to kill Bella’s stalkers. After he rescues Bella, he takes her to dinner, where Bella interrogates Edward about how he knew where she was. The car ride home from Port Angeles is another scene where the movie’s timeline differs from the book. During the car ride Bella tells Edward her theories about him (Meyers 161). Her theories are built on the story she learned from an old tribe legend Jacob told her when they meet on the beach, revealing that she knows Edward is a vampire (183). This begins a new period in their relationship, where they trade off days asking one another questions about everything. The next day, they go on a hike up the mountain to Edward’s favorite spot, the meadow. He shows Bella why he and his family cannot be seen in the sunlight, being that his skin sparkles in the light. Edward then shows her what he is capable by using his
“Here’s Johnny!” A famous line from The Shining, when Jack Torrance goes mad and is hacking at the bathroom door with an axe to mutilate his wife, Wendy and son, Danny into many little bloody pieces for disobeying him. The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick. Jack Torrance played by Jack Nicholson, quits his job as a school teacher and takes a job as caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado during the winter, hoping to cure his writer 's block. He moves in along with his wife, Wendy portrayed by Shelley Duvall, and his telepathic son, Danny played by Danny Lloyd. Danny is later told that he has an special telepathic ability called shining, hence the title.
“Tonight I gotta cut loose, footloose, kick off my sunday shoes. Jack, get back, come on before we crack.” (Footloose, Kenny Loggins) For this essay, I chose to watch Footloose made in 1984 and directed by Herbert Ross and Footloose made in 2011 directed by Craig Brewer. Both movies centered around the town of Bomont, a secluded town with out of the ordinary beliefs. In this town, dancing and partying of any sort was strictly against the law and teenagers were seemingly miserable. There was little to no self expression and even listening to provocative music or any music too loud, could get you a ticket with a hefty fine. The reason behind the strict rules is that several years back, five teens from Bomont High School died in a car wreck after they were drinking and dancing too much. Each of these movies have some things in common, but have more differences than anything. Some of the main differences are the opening credits of each movie, how and who Ren arrives to Bomont at the beginning of the movie, the “chicken” races between Ren and Jeff, and the book burning in town square.
The essentials of a vampire story are an older man representing corrupt values and a young innocent female that get destructed in order to continue the life force of the male. This can be applied to the Twilight series, as Edward uses Bella. Edward and Bella fall in love; stripping away her innocence, and is brought into the lifestyle of vampires. In the course of the movie Bella gets hunted and runs away; using all of her energy. She runs away from home, stripping her from her youth. Within the next few movies, Bella gets pregnant, destructing her body, and gives birth to Edwards baby in order to continue the life force of the male.
Moonlight is a movie that follows the life of Chiron as he grows up. Starting from an abusive childhood at his mother’s house, and through his struggle filled highschool years, Chiron ultimately ends up an independent adult. From the beginning of the film, Chiron face abuse at the hands of his mother as well as from bullies at his school, which leads him to find Juan, who acts as a type of mentor to him as he grows up. Juan’s girlfriend Teresa also acts as a mentoring figure through Chiron’s youth and adult life, while Chiron’s own mother slips into drug use and prostitution. In Chiron’s younger years, he befriends Kevin, who remains significant throughout the film as his love interest. While in school, Chiron must battle with bullies, while growing up in a rough home situation. This constant struggle for physical safety and well as safety in his sexuality causes high tension throughout the film. As he discovers himself, Chiron looks to Juan and Teresa for guidance, but eventually lashes out at the violent bullies in his life.
This was the part Bella hated so much, where she had to sew the wound because it was too deep, with a needle dip in alcohial and set the tip of the needle on fire, she began to stitch the wound. And before she knew it the worst had been done, she grab the gauze from the first aid kit and wrap around her hand. Bella had thirty minutes to get to school before she was mark late, she took a ten minute shower and got dress, rushed through the kitchen to grabbed a red apple and made sure she had gotten her keys before she locked the door. Then hop onto her 2015 Kawasaki ninja zx-6r ABS which she recieved from her parents on her sixteen birthday. She didn't know that would be the last time she would see her parents. As of that day, Bella loath her birthday,it reminded her of her parents death, which they burned in a
Theorist Vsevolod Pudovkin claims that narrative films are mainly a “product of construction” and cautious compilations of “selections of images that have been shot” (Renée).
Moonlight is an American drama film that chronicles the life of African-American male Chiron, who is being raised by a careless mother in a harsh Miami neighbourhood. Its most prominent themes are love, stereotypes and identity. The filmmakers create meaning from these through combining different elements of aesthetics (the style or look of a motion picture). Aesthetic effect refers to the practise of using different elements of a film (mise-en-scene, sound, cinematography and editing) to generate film form.
In all four works, Bella Swan in the protagonist. The story is centered around her life. All four books are written in her perspective. Meyer usually tends to write all her stories as first person narratives, including books that are not related to the Twilight Saga like The Host. When Meyer writes, she becomes completely engrossed in the characters. The main reason why she writes is because of the characters she creates. She envisions them in her brain. She talks to them all day, and they talk back. Coming up with the perfect names for the two main characters was a very tough process. She wanted a name that was popular decades ago, but at the same time, she wanted a name that was romantic for the vampire. Since Meyer grew up reading Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen, she used the characters Mr. Ferrars and Mr. Rochester from their works as an inspiration; thus leading her to choose the name Edward. After coming up with the names for the twosome, and was still in the process of creating their story, they would constantly talk to her. She heard their voices all day, so Meyer would
In this paper, I will write about “Thelma and Louise” (1991) movie. I choose a last scene of the movie which the police came to arrest them in the Grand Canyon (from 122 to 125 minutes).
Young adults go through many changes during their adolescent developmental years, including cognitive, emotional, and social development. Isabella Swan, the main character of the movie Twilight, shows the audience a great visual representation of how she goes through emerging adulthood. Isabella, or Bella for short, is a teen girl in high school who just moved to a new city, Forks, Washington, with her father whom she had not seen since she was a child. After her mom made the decision to move from their home in Arizona and travel the country with her husband who played baseball, Bella was shipped off to her dad’s to finish out high school like a “normal kid.”
