In our society today, everything we do is based off of technology: we post everything we do, stay in touch with people over social sites and base our lives around the technology we have. Personally, my family and I just went on vacation and with everything we did we had to take pictures. And with these pictures, my dad posted them on Facebook, a social media site where he can share these pictures with all his friends. Without both social media and technology, no one would know what to do with their lives. This is what keeps us feeling connected but this is not a good thing. These technology based activities are overrunning our lives. The society finds it easier and prefers to talk over text than face to face. Despite how much technology influences our daily lives, overall it has a negative impact and influence on both teenagers and kids in a plethora of different ways.

Some of the positives are social learning, it acts as a voice for the society and it encourages self-love and appreciation. Though it still has its own disadvantages, some are; it promotes cyberbullying, differentiation and jealousy, and it also affects our studies.

Computers and social media have been a part of lives for decades, from msn and yahoo to snapchat and Instagram, from the flip phone to the iPhone technology keeps evolving. Although it keeps getting better there are a large number of negative effects for one is cyber bullying. I bet you didn’t know that About 4,400 deaths per year, at least 100 young people attempt suicide, and 14 percent of high school students considered suicide, and 7 percent have attempted it. The younger they are the more likely they will attempt suicide. These numbers are all because of computers, more specifically phones, more specifically social media. It is also appearing that young people are having issues socially since it is easier in their eyes to text someone than to talk to them, that’s where my question comes in, who is controlling who? These days you can walk by someone you know and they won’t even notice, why is that? Because they are face down looking at an Instagram video. To answer my question, I think that computers are slowly starting to control us but haven’t completely done so yet. I have 2 stories about people who I personally know that have attempted to commit suicide, for confidentiality sake I’ll name one Bryan and one Jennifer.
