The book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon and its play adaptation showcase the coming-of-age story of a boy named Christopher who is not only dealing with autism, but a dysfunctional family as well. The book gives the reader a glimpse on how Christopher’s mind works and has the reader sympathize with his hardships. Likewise, the play trailer shows that the director chose to follow a similar adaptation of the book. The director, instead of portraying the happenings in the external world, chooses instead to show Christopher’s internal thoughts and reactions to better illustrate to the audience the way Christopher sees the world, and helps the audience better sympathize with Christopher. One instance of this is the set design. The set itself is a gridded cube, and the use of the grid throughout the play emphasizes the logic of Christopher’s thoughts rather than on what other characters think. The stage’s use as seen by the trailer is for Christopher to not only interact with other people but for drawing maps and diagrams, as well as give a visual representation of the way his mind works; it’s mathematical, neat, and simple. However, people are not as neat, and as …show more content…
In the book, Christopher enters the park with Mrs. Alexander and when “we were inside the park Mrs. Alexander stopped walking.” (p. ) The director chooses to show this scene with Christopher and Mrs. Alexander sitting down and instead of a park or the use of trees/shrubbery, the two are sitting on plain white cubes on the floor. Christopher’s main focus on the conversation is not the trees, the sound of birds in the park, nor any other detail that others might focus on. Instead, his mind is set on only the conversation at hand. This helps the audience understand what Christopher part of an interaction he values when engaging with

The theme of indifference is present in Elie Wiesel’s Night, as well as in the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Both the book and the movie are about the Holocaust, a horrific event in which the genocide of the Jewish people was carried out. Night is a memoir that focuses on the life of a Jewish boy, Elie Wiesel, who is deported from his home to a concentration camp. He is separated from his mother and sisters and endures many hardships with his father, as they move from camp to camp. The movie, on the other hand, focuses on the life of a German boy who has a father high up in the ranks of the Nazi party. As a result, he lives near a concentration camp. He makes friends with a Jewish boy in the camps, but gets into the camp and unwillingly dies. These two sources have
One of they ways The Blind Side and Night are similar is that they share a common theme. The theme is people make it threw obsetcles more easily when other people help them with it. One main excample of this in both of the storys is that both of the characters face major obstcles throught the story. An excample in The Blind Side, if that the main character Micheal Oher has to face a diffulect situtation when he is a black kid and he has to go to a all white school.
From "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" we were introduced to the main protagonist, a young autistic fifteen-year-old boy named Christopher looking at life analytically with logical conclusions. Once he found the next-door neighbour's dog lying dead on the ground, Christopher decided it was up to himself to solve the puzzle and to bring justice.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time written by Mark Haddon portrays the ideas of coping with loss through human relationships and the need for control in humanity, which is represented throughout the Boone family. Coping with loss and control are both depicted through the Boone family and to a larger extent Christopher, the protagonist who is a 15-year-old Autistic boy. Haddon creates a unique perspective through the characterisation and the disproportionate level of control throughout the Boone Family.
Critical Review The article, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Pippa Moss reviews and describes how the book Curious Incident would be easily related to an autistic person. Pippa Moss starts the article off by telling us who the main character of the book is, Christopher, and how he succeeds in different areas but struggles in other areas. The author concludes the article with a comparison between Christopher, the protagonist, and a reader who also may be autistic, Pippa also tells us how this book is a good read for any type of person.
In the Curious Incident of the dog in Night-time Christopher’s learns through his external journey he learns and grows much more than he thinks. To grow up one must experience new things that challenge the mind like taking responsibility, having a break in trust and losing a loved one whether it is temporary or permanently. Through Christopher’s journey of traveling to London, searching for Wellington’s killer, and finding the hidden mail, one can see his growth through experiencing bad things because the only way to grow is by going outside of one’s comfort zone.
Disability and associated concepts are major aspects of Haddon’s novel. The nature of the book, however, allows for a perspective of disability that is not commonly thought about; as Christopher attempts to solve a mystery, his specific talents and independent nature allow for the ability within his disability to shine through. Mark Haddon’s novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time makes the statement that disability is not entirely a negative thing, and this is shown through Christopher’s diligence to overcome obstacles. I am going to assess this argument by discussing three major aspects of Christopher’s life through which this is shown, including his home life, his school life, and his life in social situations.
On Thursday 18th June 2015 I went to see ‘The Curious Incident of The Dog In the Night-Time’ at the Gielgud Theatre in London. I knew before I went to see the performance was that it is about a boy with autism. I was told from others that had seen the play that it was really good so I had reasonably high expectations. The play is set in modern day. Throughout the play we see a boy called Christopher who has autism, the play is shown from his point of view. We see his thoughts and feelings and how he reacts to different situations and why. There are several themes within the play such as honesty, loneliness and gaining a deeper insight into autism.
The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon is a strange and peculiar story that will be sometimes a hard read. This book was published in 2003 in New York City. Mark Haddon, the author, works with children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. The book is in the genre of mystery. It’s a story about a boy named Christopher, who has Autism. In the book, Christopher finds a dead dog and decides to find out who killed it. Along the way, Christopher rebuilds his relationships with his mom and dad. This is a peculiar story with a interesting plot line. The characters are well developed but the story can get a bit unusual and sometimes uncomfortable. The moral of the story that readers will take away is that everyone
A scene that showed physical theatre was where Christopher first meets Mrs Alexander. During this scene, there is a conversation between the two of them and then she goes inside to get something for him. They used physical theatre to exaggerate the features of an old aged pensioner by making her look slower than an actual person would walk. The ensemble contributed to this by doing fast and sudden movements to give the effect of time passing by, Keating also contributed to this by doing the same movements. During this period, Mrs Alexander walked at a very slow pace and taking elongated steps to make it look like she was walking a lot slower than she would do to add contrast into this scene and exaggerate these features to the audience. This had the effect of showing how Christopher sometimes exaggerates things from what they really are. This added to his character, his personality and developed what the audience’s perspective on him was. Another scene where physical theatre is used to help create effect is when Christopher is on the train going to London. Every time there is the sound of them shuddering or bumping on the train track all the ensemble on the train as well as Christopher move in the same direction as if they are getting pushed to the side. This helped to make the audience believe that they are on a
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, originally a novel written by Mark Maddon was created into a Tony Award winning play by Simon Stephens in 2015, and is a must see. This play revolves around a fifteen-year-old boy with Asperger’s syndrome, Christopher Boone, and begins with him trying to discover who killed the neighbors dog-Wellington. The mid night zone should be explored by scientist to learn more about the ocean's unusual area. I think this because the vast mid night zone makes up 90 percent of our ocean. In this zone, the mid night zone, there are an abundance of hydro thermal vents that we are not able to go near. (hyrdo Thermal Vents-an opening in the sea floor out of which heated mineral-rich water flows.)
