A hero can be viewed differently in many eyes. Author and lecturer Joseph Campbell, has correlated a hero as usually being a male, often of lowly birth, but with special powers or a higher birthright, the hero doesn’t know about. Also, the hero parents are often dead, absent, or uncaring, and the hero is judged by the actions he takes and the way he reacts and relates to people. In the opinions of others, a hero is also a person admired for bravery, great achievements, abilities or good qualities and is regarded as a role model. A hero is also, admired for having done something very courageous or having succeeded in something great. In literature, the hero is the main character of a story, play, or movie. First, refusal of the return, having found bliss and enlightenment in the other world, the hero may not want to return to the ordinary world to bestow the boon onto his fellow man. Then the hero faces magic flight, sometimes the hero must escape with the boon if it is something that the gods have been jealously guarding. It can be just as adventurous and dangerous returning from the journey as it was to go on it. Later, rescue from without is encountered, just as the hero may need guides and assistants to set out on the quest. Often he or she must have powerful guides and rescuers to bring them back to everyday life, especially if the person has been wounded or weakened by the experience. Next is, crossing the return threshold, the trick in returning is to retain the wisdom gained on the quest to integrate that wisdom into a human life, and then maybe figure out how to share the wisdom with the rest of the world. Master of two worlds, this step means that the person has become comfortable and competent in both the inner and outer worlds. Last, freedom to live. Mastery leads to freedom from the fear of death, which in turn is the freedom to live. Once the hero finds out what is wrong, then you eliminate it. Hamlet was confused at first and was on a journey to figure out who was good and who was bad within his family. Once Hamlet realized that his uncle was the bad guy, then he came up with strategies to kill him. Hamlet did not want to be disobedient and go against “The Great Chain of Being,” and be killed, so he had to think carefully to make the right choices through his journey. As quoted by Hamlet:
Your loves, as mine to you: farewell. My father’s spirit in arms! All is not well; I doubt some foul play: would the night were come! Till then sit still, my soul: foul deeds will rise, Through all the earth o’ erwhelm them, to men’s eyes.
