The Odyssey, the classic epic poem annotated by Homer has been retold for centuries since it was first written in the 8th century. Each of these retellings differs from the others, they seem to leave things out or have their own little spin on them, but more or less they run along the same story line. Homer's epic poem the odyssey tells the story of the famous greek hero Odysseus. Odysseus was one of the greatest fighters in the trojan war, but unfortunately was challenged with many trials before returning home to ithaca his family, which consists of his wife penelope, and his son Telemachus.

On the 18 of May 1997, Andrei Konchalovsky's released a film version of ‘The Odyssey’, an american television miniseries starring Armand Assante as a brooding Odysseus. It is called a miniseries because there are two episodes involved in the film. Andrei Konchalovsky received the Primetime Emmy award for outstanding directing for a limited series, movie or dramatic special in 1997, the special effects manager Mike Mcgee received the Primetime Emmy award for outstanding special visual effects in 1997.
