Stud. Name : Supervisor : Chapter II: The Origins of Software Review Questions Jasour A.Obeidat Dr.Hebah Nassir Dein 2. How can you decide among various off-the-shelf software options? What criteria should you use? At first, we have to understand organization requirement because it will be a big mistake if we paid company's money into off-the-shelf software to find out that it does not meet the requirements. Then we have to ask ourselves three questions in order to decide between off-the-shelf software candidates: - Does the candidate software fill developer needs? - Is the quality of candidate high enough? - What the impact will candidate software have on organization system? Criteria for choosing off-the-shelf software depend on: …show more content…
it is useful to use this criterion), dysfunctional, or both The criterion for selecting off-the-shelf software which presented in this chapter was: cost, functionality, vendor support, viability of vendor, flexibility, documentation, response time, and ease of installation. I believe that we can use other criteria for choosing off-the-shelf software in the real world is "System Usability". This criterion concentrate on users in the organization, by making investigation on the packages that they used and the new software packages this criteria can detect the gap between the two software which will reflect how they will interact with new software and decrease problems as less as possible. In the other hand, the converting process from using old software to new one will not take big effect since the users are fully understood the current software package. And we can summary some of measures used in this criterion: Graphical User Interface (GUI). The sequence in solving problems. The sequence in generation reports. I/O interaction. 4. How might the project team recommending an ERP design strategy justify its recommendation as compared with other types of design strategies? By using a previously written software resource in a new application, it will lead to a great saving in many areas if some pieces of software will have to be written again, because being able to use existing software for some functions means that they can
Application software is essential to make workers more efficient as well as maintain company information. However, determining the best software to use is often difficult. Your course readings provide an IT Performance Model to determine how software contributes to the company. What are the individual areas in this model and how would they be used to determine the type of software needed for an organization? Are there any areas that were left out and how would they be incorporated in this model?
What enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems does your organization rely on? Choose an ERP system and discuss why you believe this system might help your organization become more efficient and
6. Which application software packages are the most important for a business end user to know how to use? Explain the reasons for your choices
3. Write the software program and test and baseline it. Revise as necessary to achieve accurate results and maintain the performance level required. Have the users of the systems try the software and get input from them regarding the GUI interface and modify as
Generally, the acquisition of a new information technology (IT) system begins with the process of surveying all of the component parts of the organization to determine what specific functions are required and expected of the new system (Halbert & Ingulli, 2009). That process distinguishes between functions that are absolute necessities and those that may be desirable and beneficial or convenient but that are not necessarily absolute requirements. More particularly, the IT acquisition team would endeavor to understand enough about each organizational component or business unit to provide guidance and to participate in a determination of what specific system features and capabilities are justified in connection with their perceived value to the users in relation to their cost and to any other considerations
Consider the overall purpose of the system and at least two system options or alternative versions of the system capable of satisfying organisational requirements.
Requirements gaps: Making sure that the business is meeting its needs financially enough to use the software and if the software will increase profits.
Software Decision and Negotiation. With the understanding of what is needed from the software, it will be time to start shopping for the best programs that can fill the needs of the staff. The office manager will be in charge of finding two to three of these software programs that will fill the needs. These programs should not only hold the necessary tools, but they should include good reviews, customer service, and competitive pricing. After the programs have been found, the office manager needs to call all three of the companies and see if any are willing to negotiate or offer special discounting for selecting their software. Once the best software and deal is found the office manager needs to schedule a time for their company to come in and install the software and provide a training lesson in how to operate the system. The payment for the system will also need to be arranged.
For custom software development it requires major participation from the business team to define and train the development team about the process and workflow design. Even after all the great efforts getting all the required functionality would be challenging. With “Software off the shelf” business users spends some time initially to understand and define the new business process based on the current process. Once it is defined and system has been configured it would be easy to maintain.
At the start of the case, describe what conditions made an ERP implementation desirable for Bombardier Aerospace.
The decision to purchase veterinary software for an entire twelve-person team can be challenging, and the vast options available make narrowing down one specific software seem impossible. Setting up and following certain criteria can greatly reduce time spent looking through software and can narrow down a huge list, to one decision. The price of any product must be a number one in the criteria, because there is no use spending time on a product that just will not fit in the budget. The software should have enough support to guide the more inexperienced employee through any questions or complications they have. The user-friendliness is also another important criterion, staff of all computer skill should feel comfortable using and exploring the software. Reviews are great because they allow me to read or hear others experiences with the software and to form an overall opinion of how the software is rated or liked. The specific features of a product are what it’s all about they should not overwhelm you and should not be a bare minimum, they should be unique and increase efficiency. Another rather important criteria that I would add would be security of the software and database.
Anderson (2014) said “ERP implementations rarely fail in formulation; however, they frequently fail in implementation.” It does not in with just purchasing an ERP system. A well designed implementation plan is the company’s ticket to success. A well designed implementation plan addresses all potential bottlenecks like execution problems such as lack of training, attitude and participation of the entire workforce from leaders to staff, and member selection for the whole ERP project implementation team. An ERP project is
The director of A* Advertising wishes to upgrade the company’s application software, while ensuring that is offers adequate usability for the staff. The user has been contracted with the task of determining the proper application software to deploy.
The above categorized types of software tools are divided on the basis of the height of the level of their compliances to the ITIL functions and needs. The main achievement was that42 softwares were licensed to operate and work to promote the services in the information technology world. Based on the open software many companies are on a rise to develop their own software and this is a positive step worthy acknowledging
