In the novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates it tells the story of two boys with the same name but two very different mindsets in life. “Life and death, freedom and bondage, hang in the balance of every action we take” (xiv). Wes Moore (1), the author, has had many things that impacted to his mindset that led to good and evil choices thought-out his life. Wes Moore (2) had made decisions that set a wrong mindset that would leave him in one place for the rest of his life. The mindsets of Wes Moore (1) and Wes (2) impacted their chances with the law, their choices with education and their opportunities with employment. The chances that Wes (1) and Wes (2) had with the law were affected by their mindset. Wes Moore (1) had a friend named, Shea. Shea had a bad reputation within the neighborhood. Shea worked the area so much that let him to be the “… the most respected young hustlers in the neighborhood” (80). One day Shea and Wes (1) were hanging out when Shea asked if Wes (1) wanted to go tag buildings. As Wes (1) was looked around for cops as he put his mark “Kid Kupid” on the wall in front of them when they heard the sound of a cop siren “wuap, wuap” (81). Shea and Wes took off running in different directions. Wes “Foolishly, ...headed right past the police car” (81) and an officer grabbed Wes and threw him up against the cop car.
