All of a sudden I felt an out of body experience and like I was being lifted up through a vortex. A very intense vortex, it felt like I was going at least 100 mph. The scenery looked like bright light and like I was passing through a bunch of stars. The vortex eventually stopped however, and then my out of body experience occurred” (OBERF, 2016). . Out of body experiences are a process that focuses on the feeling of floating outside one’s body, and some cases, the feeling of perceiving one’s physical body as if from a place outside one’s body (Brugger & Mohr, 2009, p. 137). Out of body experiences may refer to astral projections or near death experiences. Astral projections refer to a person’s conscious detachment from one’s physical body that can travel or exist outside of the body, these individual who experience such phenomena often are aware of their surroundings and can hear what is being said around them (Slick, n.d.). In turn, near death experience refers to the possibility of detachment from one’s body, a feeling of levitation, total serenity, security, warmth and absolute dissolution and the presence of light; usually associated with death (McRae, 2014).
