THE PHILIPPINE CULTURAL HERITAGE OUR BEGINNINGS AS A PEOPLE Geographic and Geological Background Scientist claim that is evidence to show that about 1 ½ million years ago the Philippines was a part of the mainland of Asia. Geologists believe that during the Pleistocene Period, or Ice Age, great changes occurred, resulting in the formation of the thousands of islands composing the Philippines today.
