In this paper, I intend to analyse the extent to which the current Labour administration shows the characteristics of a presidential government. To do this, the term presidential' must first be defined. A definition of a presidential government that is generally accepted by political analysts is a system of government in which the powers of the president are constitutionally separate from those of the legislature.' The British system of government is parliamentary and does not match the definition of presidential. Therefore, the question must be answered by looking at the individual features of a presidential government and comparing them with aspects of the Labour
“The first lady is an unpaid public servant elected by one person - her husband.” Lady Bird Johnson. First ladies tend to be looked upon as simply public figures or as support for the president. Not many recognize the sacrifice first ladies make for their country, or the work they have been volunteered to carry out. Their jobs are much more than living in the White House, selecting the proper china for certain company, or memorizing the names of the many wives of certain foreign leaders. Much on the contrary, the first lady has political significance and each has made their mark on society. Five examples are first ladies Hillary Rodham Clinton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosalynn Carter, Claudia (Lady Bird) Johnson, and Jacqueline Kennedy.
George W. Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 6, 1946. Just like other presidents, he had his good times and his bad times. He was the forty-third president of The United States. Because of those who had preceded him in The Oval Office, he understood the importance of being the Commander in Chief. In all of the events that happened during his presidency he never gave up on his country (Biography; Gale: Vol 21).
Hillary Clinton decided to follow Bill Clinton (current husband) to Arkansas where she passed the bar exam. In 1974 Bill Clinton was appointed attorney general of the state of Arkansas, Hillary joined the Rose Law firm, where she began practicing law.
At first, she worked as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Albany, where she became involved in many issues including domestic violence, women’s rights, and other civil and criminal law suits. Furthermore, she developed a relationship with Hillary Clinton while working for a program of the Democratic National Convention, the Women's Leadership Forum. She went on to support and work on Clinton’s Senate campaign in 2000 and actually donated over $12,000.Eventually, she ran for New York’s 20th congressional district in the House of Representatives against Republican and three-year incumbent John
While the President may believe that the US is doing more and gaining almost nothing from having military bases in East Asia, the reasons which will be explained below will argue otherwise with the full intention of convincing the President to continue the political stance taken by previous Presidents. The Trump administration may think that US bases in the East Asian region is not mutually beneficial, but a parasitical relationship, but numbers, statistics, and data beg to disagree. Even from a logical standpoint of diplomacy, the US gains a lot by having its military bases in the region. The President is considering withdrawing our troops if these countries “don’t do their part” but political experts concur that these countries indeed do and exceeds what’s expected of them. While on the veneer, the US receives nothing in return the following paragraphs of facts and logic may convince the President that having such bases is more favourable. The US should unceasingly extend our support to our allies in East Asia and other regions all over the world because it will be beneficial to project our military power and denuclearization is the way of the future.
What? What happened? Elder law attorney and estate planning JD. Erin Miller explained what her job consists of working with elderly adults during an interview in class. She is certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. The National Elder Law Foundation website (www.NELF.org) will assist you in finding an attorney in your area along with any special needs or concerns. JD. Miller discussed how she became an attorney. She is a graduate of York College PA, and she majored in Chemistry, which I find her (pg.7) life transition fascinating! I admire her career path from science to law, and now helping elderly people which in my opinion shows benevolence towards older adults. Looking at how hard it is to become a lawyer by going to grad school and taking your LSAT’s is hard enough. The fact that she went through hoops to get certified through NLF shows that she has compassion for older individuals and she loves her job. During this interview she raised a few questions as to
New. Different. Exciting. These are the things I want to accomplish as your Thespians President. My main focus as president is to really make the club run smoothly again. I believe that a president should run the club equally and fairly. I want to make sure everyone has a say and really include people’s suggestions into my ideas. Throughout my first three years of being in the club, I’ve really come to understand what people are really looking for and I finally want to be able to incorporate all these ideas into the club. I’ll go into much more detail about my ideas when I actually read my speech aloud, but for right now, I’m going to give you a basis of the things I want to do next year. The biggest thing, besides all the other big things I want to do, is make
Clinton met his future wife, Hillary Rodham, when he moved back to Arkansas. The two of them got married in 1975. Not long after he moved back to Arkansas, Clinton threw himself into politics by running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives against Republican John Paul Hammerschmidt. Even though Clinton lost this 1974 race, it was Hammerschmidt's closest election in the twenty-six years he had been in Congress (Dumas 2). This election showed that Clinton was a rising political star.
Over the course of several centuries, the United States has had the pleasure of being governed by different presidents, each with their own measures of success. There have been amazing presidents such as: Georgia Washington and Abraham Lincoln who seem to stand out in the history. Then there are the forgotten names like Franklin Pierce and Martin Van Buren. However, each president has brought something to the table in terms of actual success. Abraham Lincoln helped to free the slaves while John F. Kennedy allowed for relations with the Soviet Union to be enhanced during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Most U.S. presidents have succeeded while in office, but few are recognized for their accomplishments. So, what and who deserves to be recognized for
President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt, well known for his impressive diplomatic skills, was quoted as saying, “Speak softly and carry a big stick, and you will go far.” He wielded that big stick, or convincingly threatened to, with remarkable efficacy during the early twentieth century. The big stick that President Roosevelt carried with him was the superior muscle power of the United States military. “Historically, power has been measured by such criteria as population size and territory, natural resources, economic strength, military force, and social stability. Hard power enables countries to wield carrots and sticks to get what they want.”1 Power, a nations ability to influence other states to achieve a desired outcome, manifests in numerous different forms within the state. Powerful states employ all the elements of power to include diplomacy, information, economic, cultural, and of course military to meet their national objectives. Although one might expect that militarily powerful states regularly triumph over weaker states in matters of war, superior military power does not guarantee a victory. This paper will show that states possessing weaker military power are capable of defeating militarily superior states that struggle to formulate sound military strategies for their armies, fail to generate the required military effectiveness on the battlefield, or cannot overcome the unpredictability of war.
Strong and powerful words that will live in America history for the rest of our lives. President Roosevelts speech marked the beginning of one of the deadliest war in American history, following the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
The United States of America has truly changed over the years, ever since the beginning. During this time, the American government has also changed. As of now, there are multiple requirements that are required for running for president. Some of the requirements have been in place for quite a while now, but they still are in place for a reason. Also, we now have new ways of reaching out to the public during campaigns. The new campaigning games include using social media, newspapers, and spreading rumors due to people talking. Last, but not least, the political parties have changed. The political parties may not have changed too much in terms of what they are “in” for, but they have changed in terms of name and what they can finally agree on
