1. Why was the productivity of the installers so low? When it came to assessing the productivity of the installers, multiple factors came into play. John Barlow, the CEO of Safelite was confused on why the technicians were only installing on average 2.5 glass units per day when they had 8 hours in the workday, with one glass unit only taking an hour to install. One main reason was that the employees just did not try as hard as they should be. There was nothing set in place that encouraged their productivity so they found no need to make that effort. Some other reason had to do with the chain of operations within the organization. This began with the trouble with the customers. When the technicians would go out for an install, they would sometimes would have difficulty finding the location because of poor directions or the customer was not at the intended location. In addition to that, 10-20% of the time, when a technician got to their location, they would find that they had the wrong parts needed for their work. These factors combined led to rescheduling and results in low productivity within the workday. 2. Does the proposed PPP plan address the problem of low productivity? Does it introduce new problems? Yes, the PPP plan addresses the problem of low productivity because it creates a form or variable pay for technicians and certain managers. This variable pay consists of small percentages of the employees installs being a form of a ‘piece rate’ to their pay. In other
On September 6th, 1971, President Richard Nixon gave the “Address to the Nation on Labor Day.” In this speech, he determines that there is a change in the work environment air. Nixon claims that workers in this developmental time deserve new opportunities to grow within their work. He reached the conclusion that job satisfaction should be a company's main focus. As the work environment evolves, worker satisfaction becomes increasingly more important. Employees have expectations, such as raises, insurance, and paid time off, so if a company is not willing to comply with these new demands, then it will become increasingly difficult to generate decent productivity rates. Nixon defined this word by stating that “Productivity really means getting

The Scanlon Plan can be used as a major catalyst to turnaround the plant by emphasizing more on productivity. The more they work the faster they roll towards their bonuses; this magical spell is a win-win situation for both the employees and the management. The management can cruise steadily over the wave of bonus motivated productivity and the employees can reap the benefits from the high production rate in terms of bonuses. The plan can be redrawn and a slight change can be made by making the entire plan revolve around the concept of productivity. When productivity assumes a prime position in the plan, employees will strive hard

This results in some workers losing their jobs. The majority of these workers will be those who are the least productive.
Performance based pay plans are becoming increasingly utilized by companies across all industries as they try to improve their productivity while limiting their costs and remaining competitive. An effective performance based plan allows an employer to distribute some of the financial risk and rewards of the business to the employees. The employer can keep base pay compensation below the market average while still offering employees the opportunity to make more money than what is offered at the high end of the market pay range. This leaves the employer less vulnerable to fluctuations in the economic environment by lowering the fixed cost of wages (Miller, 2011).
These issues are significant. Productivity is slipping, and so is workmanship. The workers' sense of entitlement is at absurd levels, and management has fallen into complacency. The

The issue came about when the manufacturer plants would compete against each other to have the best production results. Coupling this with the fact that plant workers were demoralized and not working as hard led to a poor overall company morale.
The problem seems to be, that as we reach the winter months peoples morale drops an in turn their production drops as well. My thoughts on this is that the lack of engagement outside of work because of the weather is negatively affecting the company.
Low morale among employees in any company eventually leads to decreased profits with other factors of the business decreasing along the way. “And US Airways employees, who have seen their pay cut by more than 20 percent and their health insurance and pension plans shrink, are certainly an unhappy lot” (Claudia H. Deutsch). In order to increase profits, the airline has decreased pay and took away some of the earned vacation. “Company executives say they are taking steps that will improve working conditions and profitability” (Claudia H. Deutsch). Many employees were calling in sick which the company believed would eventually lead to poor customer service.
This may be caused by the lack of appropriate training and also briefing by the higher management to the employees who are using it. Besides that, the management team may also lack of understanding on how the employees are doing their job and they do not know that the new system are bringing them more problem. This is a communication problem This is a serious issues as this will cause the company a fortune to install the system but it is not included in the operation, making a waste of resources. Situation like this will bring further loss to the company when the company got outdated when they are not following to the footstep of the technology and all their customer will switch over to their competitors for business. On the long run, this will not just cause a waste of resources, but the losing of customer to other competitors since the company cannot keep up with the current flow of the modern world. The company can improve this situation by providing training and incentives to their worker in order to make
The major issue with lower productivity in my plant is wasting time. This encompasses many organizational concepts such as procrastination, cleanliness and orderliness, stealing time, goofing off. This happens on both sides of the employment structure.
