The Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing

Decent Essays

Research can be done in many ways. However, some ways are not as ethical as others, this includes animal testing. Research can include testing regular home products that humans use, makeup, even medical research. Animal testing has been a huge area of debate throughout the years, but is it really necessary?
It is said that animals are used as test subjects when it is unethical to use humans.
Scientists say that it is good to use animals because they are similar to humans in that “they are susceptible to many of the same health problems, and they have short life-cycles so they can easily be studied throughout their whole life-span or across several generations” (The-aps).
Scientists can control the subject’s lifestyle patterns such as their environment and what they eat, while they can not easily do that with humans. The main reasoning for testing on animals, however, is as follows: “the most important reason why animals are used is that it would be wrong to deliberately expose human beings to health risks in order to observe the course of a disease” (The-aps).
Just because these animals are not human, does that not mean that it would be wrong to test on them? Animals are fairly similar to humans, not only in the sense that they are susceptible to many of the same health problems, but they are living, breathing creatures with feelings and emotions. Just like every other living creature that has a brain, animals also can feel pain.
