I do not support hydraulic fracking because of all the negative factors that contribute to the operation. After reading and doing research, I found that there were a lot of unknown answers in the process of fracking and it made me concerned. Although the process is said to lower the price of gas and collect more gas, fracking seems to have more cons than pros. The process does not seem like it was investigated and shows little to no research background observations. Similarly to coal, the process of fracking seems unsafe and does not seem like it will be a good idea in the long run. As a matter of fact, extracting natural gas could possibly have similar environmental impacts as coal does if the process continues. Also, the process of fracking does not have a lot of evidence that it will work nor has it been tested thoroughly. Fracking can cause contamination to groundwater, air pollution, release of hazardous chemicals, huge amounts of water intake, and many other consequences. …show more content…
Sadly, there are many places around the world that are currently in droughts because of several reasons and we should not let fracking become another reason why. Another reason why fracking should not be operated would because of how it is extracted from the ground. The process is involved in increasing the pressure so the gas can be released, but there are so many chemicals involved and can cause air pollution. Also, the chemicals can leak through to the groundwater and contaminate the water that people use on a daily basis. There are already many reports out describing that people have been suffering from illnesses and flammable
Hydraulic fracking isn 't all good though, there are many controversial things about it. First off, water contamination is a hazard. There are many ways that the water supply could be contaminated by fracking. One way is by groundwater entering through cracks that fracking has made. The water solution that 's pumped into the ground is a mixture of water, sand, and chemicals. Water and sand make up 98% of the mixture, while the remaining 2% is chemicals. Although fracking companies have never realised the chemicals used, scientists studying wastewater have found many harmful additives. A few of these are benzene, toluene, and many acids, all of which pose huge threats to humans. For each fracking well, more than 8 million liters of
“Fracking” isn’t a word that most people are familiar with unless they are well informed or active in local government or natural gas extraction. “Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, involves extracting natural gas from shale formations underground” (Collier, Galatas, Harrelson-Stephens, 2008). During the process known as fracking, millions of gallons of water are shot underground into shale formations to help bring the natural gas trapped inside the formations to be released so that it can surface and become available for extraction. This is the technique that is used for traditional fracking methods. Although fracking increases the states natural gas production, it also carries some negative side effects that are affecting the state and its people.
Fracking is a highly controversial practice that utilizes the injection of water, chemicals and abrasives to extract relatively inaccessible pockets of natural resources. Although fracking has the potential to benefit the domestic economy, the practice of hydraulic fracturing, if left unregulated and mismanaged poses significant risks to the environment, the ecosystem and safety.
Fracking is a major issue in our world right now, and yet it is still being done. Not everyone knows what fracking is, so let me explain. “Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand, and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure which allows the gas to flow out of the head of the well” (Shukman, David (2015), “What is fracking and why is it controversial?” http://www.bbc.com). There are tons of resources being put into fracking that is actually causing problems of its own. “Each gas well requires an average of 400 tanker trucks to carry water and supplies to and from the site” (N/A (2015),”Dangers of fracking”.
“Fracking is the process of obtaining Natural Gas from below Earth’s surface by drilling 1000’s of feet into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside.” Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well.” (Jackson). Hydraulic Fracturing got its name due to the fact of how the rock is fractured apart by the high pressure mixture of a number of chemicals, sand, and water. Drilling companies first began Fracking in the early 1940’s, and starting in the 1990’s companies began “safer drilling” due to the amount of concerns that had arisen because early drillers had to detonate small explosions that eventually ended up killing many people. Fracking has been used for nearly 60 years and the number of concerns about it are rising every day. Due to the new technological advancements in drilling Fracking has changed greatly over the years. Before, the drilling would go on for weeks on end in order to extract only a small amount of natural gas. Now, due to the invention of higher powered drills, the drills get double the amount then they used to be able to get in more then half the time. Over 95,000 square miles of shale deposits have been found around the Appalachian Basin but the only way to reach these deposits of shale is through fracking. “Fracking is a technique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock by drilling
We need fossil fuels to power up our automobile, heating our homes, and lighting our streets throughout the night. Fracking is an innovation developed by the Halliburton corporation in the 1940s. It is an innovation that extract natural gases by injecting water mixed with sand and chemical additives. Hydraulic fracturing led the energy industry in the United States increased dramatically. How fracking works is drilling holes vertically or horizontally breaking the subsurface spewing chemical-laced water into the ground. This will widen the shale rock and force the gas to be released where we can collect it (What is Fracking?). Now, hydraulic fracturing is a worldwide controversial issue. It is in constant controversial debate about the water system and the chances of earthquake activity.
First what is hydraulic fracking? Hydraulic fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are infused into the stone at high weight which permits the gas to stream out to the leader of the well. Vinik talks about the positive side of fracking but he fails to mention the harm fracking causes. Fracking wastewater contains high levels of radioactivity and other contaminants that wastewater treatments plants have had difficulty removing; this potentially contaminated wastewater can than be discharged into local rivers. In Pennsylvania, more than 3,000 gas fracking wells and allowed well locales are situated inside two miles of 320 day mind focuses, 67 schools and nine healing centers. Fracking is prohibited.excluded from key government water insurances, and elected and state controller have permitted unchecked extension of
Since fracking releases less fossil fuels, doesn’t affect water as much, is well distributed throughout the world, and helps out economy, fracking should not be banned.Fracking releases less fossil fuels. In Source A, it state's, “Europe is currently increasing its reliance on coal while discouraging or banning fracking. If we are going to get our energy from hydrocarbons, blocking fracking while relying on coal looks like a bad trade-off for the environment”. This statement was given because coal gives off more carbon than fracking. Therefore, it would be a mistake to replace fracking with coal. This shows that compared to other resources fracking is the most wise choice. Fracking also does not affect water as much compared to other resources. In Source B, according to the National Gas Industry, they
Another reason I think fracking is a bad thing is because fracking can harm the environment. Fracking can do many different things to the environment the main thing it does to the environment is it cracks the ground, which can cause a major catastrophe on a major scale, like earthquakes. You do not want an earthquake to happen do you?
Do you think fracking should be used to release oils and natural gases? I personally think fracking shouldn't be used to release oil and natural gas because of all the protentional dangers it might cause. The risk of fracking is very detrimental and can cause serious climate issues. The world is already dealing with enough problems with the climate, so if fracking was to be used to release oils and natural the issues may stack up and cause issues for future societies.Firstly, what is Fracking? Hydraulic fracturing, or what is known is fracking is a cost-saving process for drilling oil. The dangers of fracking can be contamination of groundwater, methane and air pollution, toxic chemical exposure, earthquakes, and many more issues that go along
Five million gallons of water has gotten wasted to fill just one fracking well. All of that water when the frack is done becomes contaminated. (Is Fracking a Good Idea?) Once the frack is done a toxic pit is just left there. If the wells that were fracked are not cased properly that hazardous waste can leak into people’s drinking water, or the wells could burst. There are also other options for energy that are renewable unlike crude oil, coal, gas, oil shales, and tar shales. (History of Energy Use) Fracking is not good because it uses large quantities of water, the wells can only be fracked a few times, and it can contaminate water although it is an inexpensive alternative source of energy.
Do you know what facking is, well it is the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, boreholes, etc., so as to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas.The topic of this essay is to help people know that fracking is not good. Fracking has a negative effect on the planet and the creatures living on it. This can be a very expensive process, when all it does is harm you.
The main reason people oppose fracking is that fracking is believed to cause geological instability. In 2011 Prague, Oklahoma experienced an earthquake of 5.7 magnitude and was confirmed to me a direct result of pumping millions of gallons of flow back water underground. This catastrophe destroyed 14 homes, damaged about 200 buildings, and was felt across 17 states (Prud'Homme). This incident and the other 2 in 2011 show that class II Hydro fracking wells in particular cause geological instability. As a direct result of this instability it allows the ground water to be contaminated with deadly chemicals.
Fracking is the process of injecting liquid at high pressures into rocks deep under the soil. This process is meant to open up these rocks to let out oils and gases inside the rock. Fracking is a very common practice that is used all around the world, and because of this fracking has been a controversial topic for quite some time; Is it a good or bad process? Fracking has many pros and cons to it that make people question its reliability and safety throughout the world.
While fracking may be harmful to the environment they may also have some beneficial pros toward our economy, such as lower gas prices. However you look at it, burning natural gas is more clean and efficient than other crude energy sources, such as coal. The natural gas industry has seen tremendous growth over the years because it was cheaper and more clean than coal. Natural gas is also easier to store compared to coal because of one feature; it is a gas. Gasses can be compressed unlike solids such as coal, to put into example if you had a truck load of coal and a truck load of compressed natural gas, the natural gas would last longer because there is more of it because it was compressed. While coal is the most abundant fossil fuel in the
