The United States of America is known for its ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, also called the “land of the free” it sounds like a perfect country. But are all these ideals equally obtainable for every US citizen? Is everyone in the US equally free? Since more than 100 years before the founding of our country in 1776, colonies used the labor of people against their will, people with more melanin, to found this country and its ludicrous and hypocritical ideals. This brave officer was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious person call in the early hours of October 13, 2017.
On Tuesday July 6, 2016 at approximately 12:15 a.m. 37 year old Alton Sterling was shot and killed by two police officers responding to a disturbance call. The altercation between Mr. Sterling and the two officers occurred at the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The two officers involved in the shooting have been identified as 28 year old Blane Salamoni, and 28 year old Howie Lake II. Both officers used physical force to bring Mr. Sterling to the ground, but it is unclear through the video which officer used their gun to shoot Mr. Sterling or if both officers shot him.

Please, don’t shoot! The tension in Ferguson is so high right now that you could cut it with a knife. This is due to the latest shooting of eighteen year old Michael Brown. On August 9, 2014 Brown was the victim of a fatal shooting by Darren Wilson, a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking down the middle of the street, when Wilson drove up and told them to move to the sidewalk. An altercation occurred between Brown and Wilson struggling through the window of the police car until Wilson’s gun was fired. Brown and Johnson then fled in different directions with Wilson chasing Brown. Wilson then fired shots several more times. A total of twelve shots was fired. Brown was hit by six or seven bullets. The last shot that hit him was the most fatal. Witnesses of the scene had different stories about whether Brown had his hand raised above him or not before he was shot. This incident sparked unrest in Ferguson.
On December 20, 2014, both Liu and Ramos were sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn when they were shot at point-blank range. Neither officer had the opportunity to draw their weapon as they were killed with no warning. On April 25th of 1980 Bobby James Moore who was 20 at the time, along with two other men (Willie Albert Koonce and Evertte Anthony Pradia) were in the process of robbing a convenient store located in Houston, Texas, when James McCarble (store clerk) was fatally shot. When Scott realized what was occurring she started to scream, this is when Bobby James Moore than shot 73-year old employee James McCarble in the head killing her. Moore fled the scene, and was found 10 days later, arrested and charged with capital murder- the jury sentenced him to death.

Eric Garner died Thursday July 17th, 2014 at the hands of Staten Island police officers Justin Damico and Daniel Pantaleo. The entire thing started when two officers approached Garner who was outside of a convenience store and they knew him because he would sell cigarettes by the Ferry. Moments before there was commotion because of a fight that Garner tried to break up and shortly after the two officers arrived to try and arrest him because they "saw" him selling loose cigarettes to people on the street. He immediately began shouting for them to back away and stop harassing him
