2.Another myth going around is that once your on a universal gun register the government will use this list to find out who has a gun so they can come to your house and take it. That one is so far from the truth that it makes me laugh. No one will come take your gun unless you use it to commit a crime. Even if a ban on Assault Weapons does go into effect, all weapons you now own will not be taken away. Only new weapons will be banned and no longer sold.
3.Gun Control is against hunting - No we are not, hunting is important in some places and to some people. There are people who are poor who need to hunt to get enough food to eat. Food stamps only go so far. I get that. Another reason for hunting is to control wild animal populations. That
The gun control controversy initiated in the 2010's after the amount of mass shootings in the United States began to rise exponentially. The shocking amount of gun related incident sparked a desire for more control. Two arguments are based on what restrictions should be active when buying a gun. These restrictions are formally known as gun control. According to New York Times, gun control is defined as: "a broad term that covers any sort of restriction on what kinds of firearms can be sold and bought, who can possess or sell them, where and how they can be stored or carried, what duties a seller has to vet a buyer, and what obligations both the buyer and the seller have to report transactions to the government." Recently, the debate has no clear winner, with both sides having loads of facts and statistics to support their claim. Throughout this expository, you will discover the advantages and disadvantages of higher gun control, and the effect that guns have on crime rates.
Gun control, it’s a common topic that gets thrown around debates very often, whether the second amendment should remain legal or it should be banned in the United States. I, among many law abiding citizens, prefer to keep the second amendment within our government just like it has been since our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence. However, with this law still in place, it also means anybody over a certain age, depending where they live in the United States, can buy a gun. This puts me on edge because not everybody in our nation is a very self-controlling person, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion, and so on. This brings back those tragic moments in our generation such as the Newtown School Shooting, where a man walked into an elementary and shot little boys and girls, and also teachers. Or that time when the man shot many innocent bystanders inside the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando with a rifle and handgun. That is why there should be strict background checks for anyone who is going to buy a firearm, because it’s important to know just who exactly is going to buy a gun.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." - The Bill of Rights.“The 21st century” a backdrop for the War On Terror, has since changed that view on the right to bear arms enough to call for major gun reform. Orlando, Florida 50 killed and 53 injured June 12, 2016. San Bernardino, California 16 killed and 24 injured December 2, 2015. The media slanders two weapons of so called “terror”, the infamous AK-47 and the AR-15. The AK-47 a soviet made weapon a by product of the cold war, and the AR-15 a weapon invented to combat the AK-47. Both weapons are used in many mass shootings, in fact the New York Times calls both assault rifles
The debate between gun-control and gun-rights advocates is one that is fought on many fronts and has intermittently raged on for many years. Today, one such battlefront is that of national concealed carry: gun-control advocates see an armed citizenry as one with more potential for conflict and unnecessary killing while gun-rights proponents see it as a source of deterrence for violent crime. Yearly in the United States, roughly 12,000 people die because of gun-related homicides, and many more are wounded in hostile situations involving firearms. While implementing regulations that prevent certain individuals, like felons, from owning and using firearms certainly are worthwhile, the process for individuals who qualify to own guns should not be arduous. They should be permitted to legally purchase and carry concealed weapons for their own protection, as it is not the citizens who obtain firearms through legal means that are likely to incite a violent incident. Those who intend to do harm to others will do so by whatever means necessary, and that includes buying or stealing a weapon illegally. It is evident that gun-control laws have not stopped gun violence: lawmakers need to empower law-abiding citizens by allowing them to utilize their constitutional right to defend themselves and others with a concealed firearm.
“It’s the people who get it in their minds to perpetuate evil, to go and murder innocent people, to wreak havoc. They are the problem; not the guns” (Keijzer). The amount of crimes happening today will just increment with stricter gun control laws on the grounds that there is a higher compulsion to steal guns. Criminals as of now don't take after the law. If you take away firearms, you will only be removing them from the hands of the guiltless. Mass shooters don’t follow the law. Clause.org said, “Studies show that most criminals come by their guns illegally, often by theft or underground purchases.” This enables them to totally sidestep stringent individual verifications and other regulations. The general population will tune in and give their weapons yet not the criminals. Many ask, "if you take away our guns how will we protect ourselves?" The only thing that can beat a firearm is another firearm. Rather than banning guns, the weapon laws ought to be fixed, and all the rights of America must be changed and enhanced a bit so the administration doesn't need to stress over repaying the subjects for their rights. The reason it is lawful to possess a firearm is on the grounds that the U.S. is a powerful nation, and if the privilege is taken away then it will never again be named a powerful nation. Many feel that a
Gun control is a very highly debated topic in today’s day and age. With all the recent mass shootings, supporters call for more gun control and even for the government to ban "assault weapons". Supporters of a ban say that assault weapons are classified as weapons with one or more military features such as a high capacity clip or a folding stock (Lott 1). Opponents argue that this will take defense weapons out of the hands of law abiding but it will do little for stopping criminals. Mental health also plays a large role in the debate as almost 60% of mass shootings are conducted by someone who has history of being mentally ill (Lott 1). In this paper I will go further into the gun debate topic to try and further your knowledge on assault weapons.
With all the shootings that have happened in the last couple years you would think that more people would be for gun control but 52% are actually for gun rights or the right to own a firearm while 46% are for gun control. Gun rights allow legal US citizens to own a firearm and that right is protected by the 2nd amendment.
The people trying to oppose will mostly be gun supporters. They feel that they should rights to guns, so that means all guns. They will make an argument that we are trying to take their rights away. When we aren’t trying to take their rights but limit them from the guns they possess. Pro-gun members will argue that we are violating the second amendment that “the right of the people to keep bear Arm, shall not be infringed” (Constitution of United States of America 1789). What I feel that I can agree with is that all assault weapons are fully automatic due to mean most of them are semi-automatic (aren’t as powerful). “Opponents believe the bans won’t reduce mass shooting deaths at all.” Why do you think they believe that? Is it because they
Gun control is a rising issue in the nation due to mass shootings and murders happening everyday. The 2nd amendment states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The argument that guns should be banned is foolish, because the facts are is that criminals will get guns and weapons no matter what. Also, the law abiding citizens deserve a way to protect themselves and their families.
One of the most fascinating policy issues that have peaked my interest in the last few years is gun control. Not because of liking or disliking guns. Not because of liking or disliking control. But because of the struggle governmental control is having through our means of regulation. When we think of gun control, we often think about the black and white debate of where one may sit on the topic. It's very difficult to take an objective approach regarding the topic; lobbyists tend to look at facts in which will support a specific argument and bias. Looking at it from that perspective, a valid argument can be made for both sides. For an example, we can compare two different countries where both have "proof" for both sides of the argument. Then it's easy to say, "in country X, gun violence is low because of strict gun laws" or "in country X, gun violence is low because of the protective benefit."
Watching the news of yet another school shooting in the United States is heart breaking to everyone. The devastating responses on social media reflex how traumatized are the students, parents and school’s staff. Many questions are without an answer yet, such as why this phenomenon occurs only in the United States? Is the gun control is the solution? As the students currently are seeking to change, what is the root of the problem? And finally, whom to blame?
Gun control is a controversial topic that has been heavily debated for decades. Both sides of the debate are very passionate about the issue and both want to find solutions that they believe will benefit the greater good of our society. One side argues that a more regulated gun industry and stricter gun laws will reduce violence. On the other side of the debate, they believe that keeping guns in the hands of law abiding citizens will help reduce gun violence. Taking the rights of legal gun owners away in this country would be more detrimental to society than allowing law abiding citizens have their guns. Guns help protect the citizens of this country and taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens only helps criminals.
Guns are dangerous, guns kill people, all guns should be banned. Unfortunately, this is what many media outlets want you to believe. It seems today, whenever you turn on the news, there is more often than not, a tragic story about a mass shooting. This is indeed heartbreaking and to make matters worse, the story is always paired with someone blaming the guns instead of addressing the actual issues regarding firearms. Everyone just wants a quick fix; “Ban the GUNS!”, however this is not effective or even possible. What needs to be addressed instead are the issues regarding mental health checks, proper firearm training, and the age restrictions put on purchasing firearms.
When talking about gun control there so many topics to discuss about since this is a very common nowadays with all the event that currently happening all over the world especially at home in the US. The topic that I will be discussing is how we can regulate gun in the country, I define this as how people are able to obtain them and the whole process of wanting to get one in the aftermath of obtaining it and after that is my main concern for this argument. Many can think of other topics, but I believe this the root that is causing so many people dying from people who are able to obtain guns and using them to harm or to kill innocent civilians. My view is subjective by trying to help everyone else live in an safe space where they don't have to worry is being the next victim of a mass shooting. To solve the problem in a way which the solution to solve the gun control problem that we are currently seeing in the US it's almost a unanimous decision if you ask anyone in the states that gun control is becoming a huge problem since the rate of people using guns in terror acts is becoming more frequent. While my idea that I present can be seen as the next big thing when taking the fight for gun control some can also see the negative in it since they believe that with the bill of rights, stating “The Right to Bear Arms” being one strong common argument for what I think should be done about gun control. Also some of those benetfist that come with owning a gun can also be looked away
For many years, people have been pushing the American government to implement new laws that deal with gun control. Supporters of the argument claim that increased gun control will drastically reduce the crime rate in America. Nevertheless, a majority of gun control arguments are formed from strict control of data and emotional appeal. The mainstream media picks up these stories and broadcasts them to viewers without providing any context to them. While gun control activists assert that gun control is necessary, the American government should not ban guns because of the following reasons: potential vulnerability of innocent people being shot at by criminals and the inability for people to defend themselves against their own government.
