Middle school is a big turning point in most students’ maturity, I believe. Especially 8th Grade, as you are finally leaving the Middle School building, and going on to High School with the mindset that you are almost an adult. Along the way, you learn to cope with many things, whether they be accomplishments or losses. In this entry, I am going to discuss what I did, as well as some thoughts on leaving 8th Grade. 8th Grade has had to be my best year in terms of school. I personally saw a growth in maturity, and I started to take everything more seriously. I left two friends, one willingly, and one unwillingly. I still miss the second friend, but I try to keep tabs and have a chat with her every now and then. Nonetheless, some of my friends
I am honored to be speaking here today. Eighth grade was a fun, but tough year. At the beginning of eighth grade I was excited and worried for the year to come. Now I think of this year and I think of how fast it went, the fun I had, and the troubles I had. I think of how I am going into high school. It’s hard to believe. I am not here to talk to you about freaking out about high school. I want to tell you about eighth grade and what you will experience. I have three stories to tell you. Only three. Three stories about failure and help, perseverance, and faith.
Reflecting back to 8th grade I think is kinda crucial I learned how to stand up for myself. Kinda learned to love myself still working on it though. I had done a lot of things this year good and bad but I’m just finding who I am. I have gotten in three in school suspensions I had half a day of suspension this year. But it had helped me get caught up in my classes that is one thing that I really needed to do which was a good idea to walk out because my grades went up so much.
There will be many things in 6th grade that you will need for middle school, like change of behavior. You will have to completely change, it’s more difficult than grades before 6th grade. In 6th grade I have noticed that I have more responsibilities, ways to make new friends, and a schedule to know by heart. As you can see 6th grade can be a very hard grade to survive without having your important supplies that you need for each class.
8th grade is truly a year of learning and opportunity. I am ecstatic to dive into so many new privileges and freedoms. Wisely choosing my secondary education, responsibly exploring the streets of the East Coast, and maturing into a young adult will make this a year to remember. I will advance into my last year with an open mind, and I will always remember to seize the
The purpose of this investigation was to use qualitative and longitudinal analysis to learn about the perceptions of elementary age students who are transitioning into middle school. The participants of this study included 331 fifth grade students in a large, rural, Southeastern public school district. The students came from three different elementary schools, but would all be entering into the same large middle school. This investigation consisted of four phases, the first beginning in January of the participants’ fifth grade year and the second in May. The third and fourth phases took place after the students had transitioned into middle school, one being completed in August and the fourth phase in December. During the investigation students were asked to complete three questionnaires and one writing assignment. The writing assignment, given during phase one of the investigation, gave the participants the opportunity to write any questions they had about middle school. The questionnaires used in the proceeding phases elicited responses regarding the following topics: Students’ concerns about middle school, the positive aspects of middle school, who the students would turn to for help, what they think middle school will be like, and what they think is important to know about transitioning to middle school.
I really like 8th grade so far. I have most of my close friends in my class and I love all of my teachers. I also love the new grading scale. People seem to have grown up this year and become a lot more mature. Lunch is the same as last year the only difference is I don’t have Riley or Bailee but now I have Cera, Callie, and Jazmine. I like most of my classes, my top 3 classes are science, social studies, and language arts.
Everyone has heard or been told, “high school is what you make of it.” High school is in fact what you make of it, but it is also the time of great change in everybody. Entering grade nine you still feel like a kid, your post-secondary and career choices are far from top priority. However, by grade twelve we become more mature and grow into young adults. Personally looking back to my grade nine self and comparing her to my grade twelve self of today, I am able to see changes in my character, my athletics and my goals.
Looking back on my 8th grade year I wish I had known to be myself and not let the events in my life reduce me. Sadly, I had to live through some rough patches to be able to learn to be myself. My 8th grade year relates greatly to the song The Middle by Jimmy Eat World. I chose to break this song into three main categories, one about not giving up, another about how everyone is insecure in middle school and the last about discovering who I am and not caring what other people think. I was involved in lots of drama this year, a lot
Being in middle school it was hard to keep friends as most would come and go caused by unexpected series of events. Most of the time, girls would always talk bad about each other or treat each other like the other doesn’t have feelings. I was the girl who would always be treated like I wasn’t important to a group or clique, and I wasn’t the only one. Id see my “friends” talk down to another girl within my so called group of friends and it wasn’t a nice situation. One day, she stood up for herself and removed herself from the group as what I should've done also. She sat by herself for a couple days after at lunch which led me to sit with her the next following half year of school we had left. It was awkward at first but as we talked more about
I can remember being in middle school, when I invited a friend over to my house, naturally we ran and played all day until we decided to build a fort in the woods behind my house. We would go about finding fallen limbs and heavy rocks to stack up in a prehistoric style structure. Barely fifteen minutes into our excursion had I noticed that I was the only one of the two of us who was working. In that moment, I understood why my mother had me work so much as a child. She wasn’t being a sadistic slave driver like I had thought; instead she was teaching me a valuable lesson: how to work. To this day, that is the most important lesson I have ever learned.
We live in a society that puts high school up on a pedestal, and it is often referred to as the best four years of our lives; however, high school can be some of the most stressful years of a student's life, as well as the most difficult, especially if we are unprepared. The various differences between junior high and high school are astounding. Transitioning from junior high to high school, requires students to reach a completely different level of maturity and responsibility. In junior high, poor actions didn’t have severe consequences, whereas, in high school, consequences can be a detrimental as being suspended from school. Also, middle school requires substantially less responsibility than high school; in middle school, there are no repercussions for turning assignments in late. In comparison to high school, all late assignments result in a specific percentage deduction from your earned score. Another difference between junior high and high school is the amount of time spent on and the difficulty level of homework. Junior high assignments were much more straightforward than high school assignments. High school is much more difficult and demanding than junior high. Overall, junior high does not adequately prepare students for high school.
I was always timid as a child, even a gentle creature that floats in the wind intimidated me. My siblings being the sibling that they are would make jokes and play around with my feeling to try breaking my shy sensitivity but it never worked. I barely said a word to anyone, I was always in my own world not realizing that reality is real.
Being in middle school is a dreadful place to be, almost all students will acknowledge that this statement has truth behind it. My middle school was a long two-story building that had mirrored halls on its floors, save for the gym, cafeteria, and front office, which were all found on the bottom floor. There were even colored tiles on the floor that indicated the walking paths from one class to the next. Now the experience I had in middle school wasn’t the greatest thing in the world, but it could have been worse. Sixth grade year I was separated from my friends I had in elementary school but I made some really fantastic ones that I still have today. However, in seventh grade I was located in a different block of classes from my friends entirely and the only time I saw them was during band class. Little did I know I was going to meet a person that would change my life forever.
While I look back on my experience as an 8th grader I realize I have learned so much; Not only relating to education, but also myself as a student. My favorite lesson this year was about the golden rule because I try to follow the golden rule in my everyday life. Having an assignment based on it was very awakening. In seventh grade I wasn't as focused or as organized. This year I learned the importance of time management and agenda planning. Another pivotal lesson I gained this year was the significance of justice through a series of assignments we were given based on the theme “The Search For Justice”. Reading to kill a mockingbird related to justice, because the character Atticus tries to save a man from being sent to jail for something he didn't do. The essay we wrote about prejudice in America also related to the theme of “The Search For Justice” because we had to discuss what is problems are present in America and what people need to do to fix that injustice. My abilities as a learner and thinker have gotten better so has my proficiency to think quickly and process information quickly. These has been my biggest achievements, because I struggled with that a lot last
The results from the survey revealed new insightful information from students in regard to the perceptions of the transition from middle school to high school. The survey was composed of five distinct areas that were overarching and broad. The goal was to use questions to discover the concerns and issues that eighth grade students might have. The categories were: social interaction, teacher relationships and instruction, academia, environmental factors and student safety. Each category brought interesting and new information.
