Today we dare to be scientist, analyst, or philosophers as we attempt further dissect the true meanings behind a photo posted to the Planned Parenthood twitter page. Attach to the photo was the following caption that states that, “Senators Graham & Cassidy are pushing the worst #ACArepeal bill yet. We've rejected every other version of Trumpcare.” Within these few words it is revealed the cause that brought this group of concerned American citizen to the capital. Various people, men and women alike, came out to show their support with pink T-shirts powers and signs in tow as made evident by the photograph. Now women have not always had a voice within politics, it is still a very young part of the American government dating back only a few decades. With this “call to arms” the men and women of the United States can get a word in about the terrible reform of the American healthcare system being proposed. A consensus has been made by those following the course of bill that latest healthcare proposal is possibly the worst attempt at repealing the Affordable Care Act with a heightened disposition for women. The funding for Planned Parenthood would be zeroed out under the new bill and Dawn Laguens, executive vice president at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, had this to say in a statement; “It blocks women from getting preventive care at Planned Parenthood. It slashes Medicaid, which 1 in 5 women of reproductive age rely on for care, including birth control and cancer
This current debate whether Planned Parenthood should be funded by the Federal Government is a hot issue in the current election. It has become, not only a nationwide issue, but also worldwide where people from all around the world are able to put in their input on the argument. There are many people who
Planned Parenthood is a controversial topic sweeping the nation of America with political and moral issues. Every day one could come across a new article on it, stubble upon a news article in their local paper or even on their local news station. Planned Parenthood directly provides reproductive health services, is involved in teach young students about sexual education, contributes to research in reproductive technology, and interacts with legal and political efforts aimed at protecting and developing reproductive rights.
You didn’t hear this from me, but the word on the street is that Planned Parenthood needs to be defunded. Tax payers look towards their elected officials for guidance when taking their stance on hot button debates like climate change. Through persuasive rhetoric the masses can find themselves on either end of the topic at hand. The members of the Planned Parenthood community have shown resilience in the face of adversity when faced with the prospect of their primary healthcare provider going out of business. Mister Jesse Anders and my anonymous informant, whose name was stricken from the record upon request, shared their insight into the matter over the course
Planned parenthood is one of the largest abortion providers in the nation. Trumps say he respects woman and wants to take care of them. His remarks about Planned Parenthood are against I and do not support ending taxpayers funding have Planned Parenthood. “ I am against abortion … and that is a tremendous amount of the work they do said Trump. (Huff Post) Trump believes there is good aspects to this and that it can be considered in only certain situations. “We have to help woman” said trump (Fox News) During the interview in fox new he mentioned how he wants to help woman and try to look also at the positives of Planned Parenthood. This displays that trump might have reconsidered not funding panned parents hood. In another interview with
Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides healthcare and education to both men and women, having over 650 health centers that provide healthcare to countless communities around the world. Shockingly, 78% of those who use Planned Parenthoods services live at or below 150% of the federal poverty line, showing how important this organization is to low-income families (Topulos, Greene, Drazen). Their mission statement is “A Reason for Being”, which is shown through their efforts to provide health care, advocate public policies, create educational programs, and endorse research. There are those who do not believe Planned Parenthood should be funded by the government, though, due to the fact that they provide abortions to women in need. Studies show that the effects of not having Planned Parenthood available are disastrous, causing low-income families to lack a healthcare provider and the number of those who are infected with STD’s and STI’s to rise. The biggest concern communities have about the government defunding Planned Parenthood is the effects that it would have on low-income families who would no longer have access to something that many people take for granted: health care. Although many believe that Planned Parenthood mostly provides abortions, in reality, only 3% of the people that seek help from them receive an abortion, while 97% receive affordable and, in many cases,
Abortions only make up three percent of the procedures done at Planned Parenthood clinics (“2014 2015 Annual Report”). There are a variety of other life saving and essential health care procedures done at the clinics, such as STD and STI testing, pregnancy tests, contraception, exams, and other health issues relating to both men and women. Many people believe that the federal government should defund planned parenthood; however, this would make it almost impossible for many low-income individuals to receive the care that they need. The federal government should not defund Planned Parenthood (PP) because abortion is not a valid reason for opposing funding because it is allowed by law, low-income individuals and families need the affordable
Planned Parenthood is one of the most controversial businesses out there to date. If you were to get a group of ten random people, I would imagine that at least six of them have an opinion related to it, and all of them an opinion on abortion, another highly controversial subject. Why is Planned Parenthood so controversial? Why do so many people want to fight for defunding from the federal government for that entity? Abortions are the biggest reason.
“Nothing matters.” That quote attributed to Ambrose Bierce may be true in some cases. It may be true to those who do not value the funding of Planned Parenthood. But something does matter. And that is the funding of the healthcare resource Planned Parenthood. Many do not understand the vital role Planned Parenthood plays in the lives of up and coming parents. Planned Parenthood has been operating and serving those in need of care in the United States and overseas for more than 40 years (“Planned Parenthood Global”). Planned Parenthood has vowed in their mission statement:
Planned parenthood has been a topic of controversy the last couple of years, as people throughout the nation ask whether or not the healthcare organization should be defunded. When video footage was released in 2015 of “Planned Parenthood medical officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue to researchers,” it seemed likely that federal funds would be revoked as backlash from the public was noted (Welch). Although the nonprofit organization does offer the termination of unplanned pregnancies, the organization offers many more services to women and men, such as free birth control and yearly health checkups “backed by medical experts and more than 100 years of research in reproductive health” (Planned Parenthood). As many people struggle financially to provide for their families, Planned Parenthood’s services are a relief to those who otherwise would not be able to afford healthcare, which is why the organization should not be defunded.
There many misconceptions when it comes down to speaking about Planned Parenthood. The most common misconception is that the agency only performs abortions and they sell the tiny body parts after. Another misconception is that Planned Parenthood regards funding. Many believe that the funding that Planned Parenthood receives, only goes towards paying for abortions. Other misconceptions about Planned Parenthood are: Many believe that defunding Planned Parenthood will cause a decrease of abortions, Planned Parenthood only serves teenagers and prostitutes, we do not need Planned Parenthood.
“How can the “Dream” survive if we murder children? Every aborted baby is like a slave in the womb of his or her mother. The mother decides his or her fate” (Martin Luther King, Jr). This quote, by Martin Luther King Jr, represents how Martin Luther King Jr really feels about abortions, and how abortions relate back to the idea of slavery. As abortions are spreading all across the world many people have wondered if there are any positives to abortions? If there are not any positives to abortion then people may wonder, what are the negatives to abortions, and how do other people feel about abortions.
Millions of women across America will struggle to receive the medical attention they need if the federal government stops funding to Planned Parenthood. Every year 363 million dollars goes into the funding “pot” collectively at Planned Parenthood’s nationwide (Clark 5). This money is used predominantly by women; for six in ten women, Planned Parenthood acts as their main source of health care (Clark 4). Many individuals with low incomes depend on these clinics to maintain or help better their health. Recently, the federal government is trying to pass the Pence Amendment, which would eliminate funding to these institutions. The federal government needs to realize how important Planned Parenthood
The state of Texas has pulled its Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, leaving poor residents with few options for affordable healthcare. Medicaid, a program focused on helping low-income families and individuals receive healthcare, has always been jointly operated by the state and the federal government. But to who this program would be eligible for is entirely up to the state. More conservative states, like Texas for example, strictly reserve Medicaid for only the most severe cases of poverty-stricken families, leaving a large portion of low-income residents uninsured. The Affordable Care Act, a federally mandated reform of Medicaid introduced by President Obama, would provide healthcare for many American citizens in need. Despite being
Bill H.R.3134 Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 was introduced by Rep. Diane Black (R-TN-6) in the House. This bill calls to call to prohibit for a year the availability of federal funds for Planned Parenthood, and it was passed in the House, but failed to do so in the Senate. Remarkably, Steve King (R-IA-4) voted present, and Charlie Dent (R-PA-15), Robert Dold (R-IL10), and Richard Hanna (R-NY-22), all Republicans voted against the bill. On the other hand, only 2 members of the Democratic party, voted in favor of the bill, these congressmen are Daniel Lipinski (D-IL-3) and Collin Peterson (D-MN-7). Contrastingly, the identical bill, S.1836, in the senate introduced by Senator Lankford James (R-OK) failed to pass. Despite its failure, it was cosponsored by 4 Republican senators, these are James Inhofe (R-OK), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Ben Sasse (R-NE), and Jeff Sessions (R-AL). Throughout this essay, I will be explaining the bill and its legislative history, as well as bringing to light the different interests at stake in this process.
Your a dip shit. Your message is completely misleading. Folks aren't asking Congress to "end support for woman or family health care services" by defunding Planned Parenthood. They ARE asking for Congress to stop spending tax payers money on funding abortions by Planned Parent especially considering all the sick, twisted and damming evidence these videos have brought to light by Planned Parenthood.
