A New Normal In our day and age, everything and everyone seems to be online. Social media is how we connect, how we express ourselves, how we get the news, and so much more. “83% of Americans have a social media account, and a lot have more than just one” (Walters). Social media is communication through electronics. While on social media you can share messages, information, pictures, videos, and endless other content. People can log on to their accounts and in less than two minutes later they can share something with their friends/followers. Everyday there is something new being put out on the internet. Social media is never standing still, there is always new ways to get your message out there. Kids are growing up in a world full of social media and technology. Now social media can be seen as a really good think or a really bad thing. Whether it is bad or good, this is becoming the new norm and I want to understand it a little better. So the question i am wondering is social media beneficial or harmful? Throughout the past couple of years the use of social media has kept climbing. Technology is a main factor in this. Technology is changing every single day. People want the newest and fastest phone, tablet, television, or computer. “Technology causes people to use less energy and to get what they want right away. Technology is changing the way that we live our lives. With the advances in technology we are enabled to complete more tasks in less time, and often times, with
One danger that is often overlooked by social networking users is social comparison. The phrase “social comparison” refers to the idea that people determine their own self-worth through evaluating and comparing themselves to others. This is especially prevalent on social networking sites. Users of social networking sites often strive to make their lives seem perfect. In order to achieve this, users will only post their “highlights” or positive points in their lives. One author states, "When you're on a site like Facebook, you get lots of posts about what people are doing. That sets up social comparison — you maybe feel your life is not as full and rich as those people you see on Facebook,” ("Social Media: Does social media have a positive impact on the world?"). However, it is not the fact that the users may unintentionally be posting only their highlights that could be potentially dangerous. Rather, it is the fact that another user may compare their own life to another user’s. For example, a user could be scrolling through a site and see another user’s highlights and begin comparing their own life to the other user’s. As a result, a user could start to develop a lower self-esteem. Their sense of self-worth may also be damaged in the process. This obsession of one’s self-image can have severe consequences such as feelings of depression or loneliness ("Social Media: Does social media have a positive impact on the world?").
In today’s century social media is the main way to communicate with people with people all over the world. It has become very popular... even more popular than a text or video message. Social media is a computer technology that facilitates the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via communities and networks. The variety of social media services that are currently available can help benefit businesses, introduce an event, or even help you find a friend, family member, or long lost soulmate. Some social sites even help you find love. However, there are many positive things that can come out social media but there are many negatives too.
The social media is one of the most common ways of communication and pretty much of knowing anything and everything around the world these days, and it is growing very rapidly. It changes and affects each person in a different way, or ways. Some may argue that social media has a bad influence on children and young adults, and that it negatively effects their brains, character, or personalities, while most people see that the social media has a more positive effect on them than a negative one. Moreover, social media has helped many people around the world to connect, or re-connect, with each other, easily. Social media is basically the new way of keeping in touch with everything and everyone, and of even strengthening bonds between each
James Karl Buck, a graduate students of United States happened to be travelling in Egypt during their anti governmental protest. He was arrested and detained in Egypt. Prior to his sentence,he sent out a tweet from the twitter to those who he knew and let them know about his problem. This began a quick process and a quick release. This is one of the best example for the utilization of social networking site.
Social media has conquered the internet as well advanced in the growth of opening relationships and collaborating ideas around many counseling professions. In the field of therapy, many psychotherapists expanded their ways by connection with patients through Facebook pages and other webpages that allow communication. Lately, this has also created current issues to consider and benefits for counselors. Older generations find this as a problem because it is unethical and has effects towards the boundary line between private and public information. The problem of therapists crossing boundaries through social media can be solved by two solutions: creating a specific group page on Facebook and having alternative networking accounts such as
I think that the social media system cannot simply make humanity more peaceful and happy. I say this for a couple of reasons. Social media just makes people have a chance to insult or expose others without much punishment, people can use social media for any way they want, including on dark subject like murder, etc., and it has shrunk the world down in such a way it is a social media village now. After reading the article by Nicholas Carr, I could tell that it would do all of this for social media. I immensely agree due to him making his point; social media can corrupt people. People tend to share more exposed information onto social media a lot, so it keeps people from liking others the more they know of them.
Social media is becoming a very popular way to communicate. Social media is “websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking”(“Social Media”). Many political figures such as mayors, senators, and presidents use social media to express their feelings and share news. Having social media as a political figure has its advantages and disadvantages; Donald Trump frequently comes across these issues.
Our communities have progressed from the way information is learned and processed and also the different ways they use networking. They have learned new ways to communicate with one another. They created a virtual world for ourselves to feel more connected to one another than ever. Social media has open new doors for us with it promoting new opportunities for us. It can be anything from finding a new job or simply finding new and old friends. Even though social media is a good thing to others, it can also be negative to some. Social media is a platform for all types of people, and you will get different kinds of personalities and posts. Social media is what you make it out to be, whether it is right or wrong that is entirely up to them, so it is how and when you use it.
Technological advancements are, in a word, skyrocketing. As a result of the growth in technology, social networking sites have become a perplexing form in our modern lives. In a positive light, social networking provides us with a range of benefits and opportunities that enable us in an abundance of ways. Our generation can now maintain social connections while accessing more information than ever before. Supposedly, through the entire complexity of social networking sites and apps, an interaction between individuals can be indispensable for reinforcing and developing our self-esteem and social skills. However, although I understand that social networking sites provide us with opportunities for self-expression, they also provide us with additional risks such as lowering opportunities for communication, reducing self-esteem and putting people at risk of cyber bullying. Even though social networking has given us general “positive opportunities”, there is no denying the fact that we have to deal with the hidden risks that social networking poses.
Social media nowadays is a thing that has become unimaginable to live without in this modern world except for the last few decades, everyone did. Social media has connected many corners of the world together. Without Social Media the World might not have progressed this much. Social Media is a term that has been heard even by the most remote areas of the world. Since the formal rise of social media there have been many apps, created for virtual communication with each other. There are many examples for the apps used for virtual communication which help you see another individual on the other end of your computer or smart phone screen, some of them are Microsoft Skype, Apple facetime, Google Duo etcetera. There are also many examples for chat based communication applications which are WhatsApp, Facebook messenger, i message and so on. What I want to say is that in this modern world there are many types of applications and computer software’s that have made our lives easier by connecting us to every part of the world via internet. However, we all know that there are two sides to a coin a bad and a good. In many individuals point of view Virtual conversation is not only lowering the value of physical conversation and meeting but is also spreading people apart from each other rather than keeping them together. There are many websites and blogs that serve in favor of this perception of social media being a foe to the society. However there is one that states both sides of social

We seem to live in a world where nothing is private anymore. Whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, or any other form of social media, most of us are sharing our life’s adventures on the internet. While it’s a great tool to use to keep up with friends or stay up to date with what’s in the news, social media is also something that can get someone in big trouble. And for those who are police officers, social media is something that can not only get you in trouble in your personal life, but can get you fired.
