Nancy Reagan, once said, “I think people would be alive today if there were a death penalty.” The death penalty needs to be looked at, reviewed, revised, and kept. There are flaws in the system, but every system has flaws. Keeping the death penalty will show criminals that their are consequences to the crimes they commit. By executing a murderer it could save countless lives. There are many reasons someone might be executed and these reasons are looked at carefully.There are different types of execution: hanging, lethal injection, firing squad, electrocution, and lethal gas. The death penalty should stay but be revised, it could save lives, it could prevent crimes, it could prevent overcrowding in prisons, and closure for the family and friends who lost their loved ones from heinous crimes. Nevertheless, review it, revise it, and keep it. No doubt the system has flaws. Changing the system could improve the death penalty in many ways. First, prosecutors need to make sure the person is one hundred percent guilty. More people would be for the death penalty if the rate of innocent people executed would go down. Second, change the definition of the crimes that get people the death penalty. This flaw is a simple fix. They just have to be stricter on what punishment gets you the death penalty. Third, the mental status of a criminal. Some people have issues mentally that interfere with the ability to tell right from wrong. This can be changed by having a psychiatrist come and
