The Purpose of Education

Education is a very broad term that can be interpreted in an infinite number of ways. Nonetheless, despite one's definition of education, it can be said that education does in fact have some sort of a purpose or goal. Personally, I feel that education has become important in our world for all individuals, yet at the same time I believe that education has different purposes depending on the grade level.

First off, in terms of education in grades K through 3 it seems that students are introduced to the basic concepts of learning, reading, and writing. Overall, this novice level education aims to improve basic communication and activate the students' desire to learn.

Next, grades 4-6 tend to build upon the foundations formed in previous grades. Students are introduced to more complex reading material as they delve further into other content areas such as science, history, geography, and math that were not so deeply investigated in prior years. Teachers' intentions are that of provoking thought and increasing the students' awareness of different subject areas. As students enter middle school, (grades 7-8) I would say that the purpose and outline of the education system remains the same, however, students are expected to be more responsible and act mature when it comes to making decisions.

Finally, the high school years arrive and brig the students to a higher level of learning. Since the individuals have the opportunity to choose their classes they begin their journey in finding their "cup of tea." While there are specific course requirements which students must abide by in order to graduate, they have earned the privilege to thoroughly enjoy learning because they are testing out subjects which may help them to decide what their future might include. Aside from academics, education in high schools deals with concepts of life such as problem solving skills, careers, being a role model, public speaking, and the importance of being in charge of oneself whether it be in the
