WHY ARE RAINFORESTS IMPORTANT?
Rainforests are important to the global ecosystem. Rainforests:
? provide a home to many plants and animals,
? help stabilize the world's climate,
? protect against flood, drought, and erosion,
? are a source for medicines and foods,
? support tribal people, and
? are an interesting place to visit
RAINFORESTS HELP STABILIZE CLIMATE
Rainforests help stabilize the world's climate by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is believed to contribute to climate change through global warming. Therefore rainforests have an important in addressing global warming.
Rainforests also affect local weather conditions by creating rainfall and moderating

RAINFORESTS REDUCE EROSION
The roots of rainforest trees and vegetation help anchor the soil. When trees are cut down there is no longer anything to protect the ground and soils are quickly washed away with rain. The process of washing away of soil is known as erosion.
As soil is washed down into rivers it causes problems for fish and people. Fish suffer because water becomes clouded, while people have trouble navigating waterways that are shallower because of the increased amount of dirt in the water. Meanwhile farmers lose topsoil that is important for growing crops.
Why Does Deforestation Take Place
Every year an area of rainforest the size of New Jersey is cut down and destroyed. The plants and animals that used to live in these trees either die or must find a new forest to call their home.
Why are rainforests being destroyed? We humans are the main cause of rainforest destruction or deforestation. Humans are cutting down rainforests for many reasons, including:
? wood for both timber and wood for making fires,
? agriculture for both small and large farms,
? land for poor farmers who don't have anywhere else to live,
? grazing land for cattle, and
? road construction
LOGGING AND TIMBER HARVESTING IN THE RAINFOREST
One of the leading causes of rainforest destruction is logging. Many types of wood used for furniture, flooring, and construction are harvested from tropical forests in Africa, Asia, and South America. By buying
The many advantages trees have on earth is immense, when trees are lost it affects the worlds atmosphere and air quality. Trees are home to many ecosystems, they give shelter and food to the animals in their community, but they are being taken down. Animals without homes are more vulnerable to predators and hunters, and it is all a disruption to the ecosystem. Once taken down, the increase in greenhouse gasses rise,” Forests help to migrate carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, but they become carbon sources” (Kerry Cesareo), much of these gasses have an impact in rising temperatures. The water cycle is also an important role in the rainforest and it has also been disrupted by deforestation. Erosion of soil,” And as fertile soil washes away, agricultural producers move on, clearing more forest and continuing
As parts to of the world still continue to commit acts of deforestation in the rainforest areas, at the same time, the climate on earth also becomes affected by these actions, too. The trees in the rainforest are essential to the water cycle (Szalay). The water cycle is the movement of water on the earth (“Summary of the Water Cycle”). The trees in the water cycle act in the process of evapotranspiration. The word evapotranspiration is evaporation and transpiration together (Briney). Evaporation is when water converts from liquid into a gas or vapor (Briney). Transpiration, however, is when a plant or tree absorbs the water from their roots and is evaporated back into the atmosphere through its leaves, stems, or flowers (Briney). The water evaporated from the trees and plants contribute to the rainfall in the forest (Briney). In the article The Effects of Deforestation in Amazonia, author Harald Sioli states, “With the reduction of rainwater re-evaporating from the original forest, the rate of its recycling will also diminish” (200). If the process of evapotranspiration decreases due to deforestation, the amount of rainfall will also decrease. The rainforests like the Amazon will change in climate and become dry and could possibly cause more forest fires due to the reduction of precipitation in the rainforest (Shukla, Nobre, & Sellers).
Deforestation has been a major concern in tropical rainforests, this is an act of destructing a forest for multiple reasons including wood supply, agriculture purposes or the extraction of minerals and energy. Forest loss till date is 18.03 million acres per year and it has been estimated that within 100 years all rainforests will be destroyed.
Forest ecosystems cover around 31% of our land across the world; they produce vital supplies from oxygen to logs for the production of paper and furniture such as tables.
Did you know that in 1990 there were only 2,500 Hyacinth Macaws left living in the will. In our paper we will discuss how humans affect the rainforest, endangered hyacinth macaws, and how we can prevent humans from destroying rainforests.
According to World Wildlife over half of the illegally removed from forests are used to make fuel. Some other causes of deforestation are for urbanization, timber products, consumer products agriculture business, industrial logging, hydroelectric dams and road building are the main causes of deforestation.. According to NASA if we continue at this rate it would only take as little as 100 years for all the rainforests around the world to be cut
The rainforest is a very important part of our ecosystem. But it is getting destroyed by humans.
B the island nation of Comoros fared the worst clearing 60 percent of its forests between 1990 and 2005. That is a lot of space that animals could live in. And you may also wonder what do they do with the animals now that they have no home anymore, the answer to that is it depends on what country you are in. In Madagascar, they just kill them so they do not suffer from no home. IT is very sad but that is what they do. I am not so sure in other countries but it is still really sad to see that all those animals are dying from deforestation. You also may think that it just happens in one area but deforestation happens all over the world. It's rare to get deforestation in the United States because we are careful with how many trees we chop down but some places where it occurs a lot in Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, Africa and some parts of the eastern side of Europe. But you get the point deforestation happens pretty much everywhere another question you may consider how long does it take for deforestation to recover to actually happen well actually it takes about 4,000 years for the forest to recover depending on how big the forest is that's a lot of time to regrow a forest. And as your reading this
Within the forest, deforestation destroys the homes of the forest’s inhabitants. Animals with habitat sensitivity such as the Three-Toed Sloth will be forced to evacuate their homes and will perish from excessive amounts of stress. Animals that depend on the large trees such as Scarlet Macaws will have their homes (and nests) destroyed. Animals that are already endangered such as the Jaguar, Amazon River Dolphin, Spider Monkeys, Poison Dart Frog, and Three-Toed Sloth are in critical condition and are at
Rainforests are being destroyed at a rate of 150 acres a minute. If this fact doesn’t astonish you then understand that that means a total of 78 Million acres a year. While this is in itself a horrible act it is also causing many species to go extinct thanks to loss of habitat. The main culprits of this are large corporations such as McDonald’s and Burger King. The greed of large corporations leads them to mistreat earth’s largest and most inhabited forests, leaving many species struggling for survival.
There are many issues that the rainforest biome has. One of the biggest problems is that people cut down millions of trees each year. At the rate that lumberjacks are moving, in each hour of the day, 1,000 to 3,000 acres of the rainforest are destroyed. 40,000,000 to 50,000,000 acres are being destroyed each year. The lumberjacks cut down these trees for firewood, houses, and for other money making industries. This destruction is mainly
One of the most growing environmental concerns of our planet is the loss of tropical forests. Tropical forests are depleting at an alarming rate. A rate where demand far exceeds the supply. Of all the forest habitats, none seems to be more threatened than the tropical rainforests, as the world loses up to 20 million hectares of these forests annually, an 80 percent increase over previous estimates. In 1950, 30 percent of the world 's surface was covered by rainforests. By 1975 this area had shrunk to 12 percent. Today, tropical forests account for about 8 percent of the planet 's surface, an area roughly equal to that of the United States, constituting slightly less than half their prehistoric cover. Findings have shown that Africa has lost 60 percent of its original rainforests and Central America and Southeast Asia have lost nearly two thirds.
The earth is losing its forests. Presently, trees cover about 30 percent of the earth's surface, but they are being destroyed at an alarming rate, especially in the tropics.
Since the start of the 1970s, an area of the rainforest the size of California has been lost. In the Brazilian Amazon three million acres were lost between 2007 and 2008 (Amazon Rainforest). This is due to the illegal logging, soy plantations, cattle ranching, and other human actives. The forest is being threatened and so is everything that depends on it.
To begin, forest based industrialization is based on forest resources that are used to stimulate economic growth and development. One of the products that have been most important to human economies has always been wood. Wood is durable, light weight, easily worked, waterproof, and a good fiber source. Wood is used in almost every aspect of our lives, for building materials, living, and just surviving. We need wood to build our homes to live in and buildings in which we work and spend the other resource that comes from trees “money”. Studies show that 70% of the products that we use a day are made of some kind of wood. If we were to look around our homes and count all the items that are made of wood we would probably find that 60 percent are made of wood. Without wood humans and other species would never be able to survive.
