In Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”, Frost shows the everyday human struggle to make a choice that could change the course of one’s life. In his poem, a person has the choice to take one road or the other. One road is worn out from many people taking it, and the other is barely touched, for fewer have taken that road. Throughout the poem, the speaker learns that just because so many other people have done one thing, or walked one way, does not mean everyone has to. Sometimes you just have to go your own way.

So they choose one and they regret it because it is very unlikely that this person will come across those two roads again. The true meaning to me is that you never know if you’re making the right choice. So you make a choice, and never look back, even if that choice results in your life.

In “The Road Not Taken” the speaker talks about being given options in life of conforming or proceeding down a path of ones own. “Two roads diverged in a wood/ and I – I took the one less travelled by/ And that has made all the difference.” (Frost 18-20)

Furthermore, I have took a carefully attention to the final stanza of The Road Not Taken, and realized the final two lines of the poem contains a deeper meaning than their literal meaning. The word “difference” in line 20 is a wonderful description; we usually feel the difference because we like to compare our lives with our expectations. Like myself, I ask myself sometime about all the past decisions I have made, and think about the different lives if I had not done this or that. Because we all had the imaginational “us”, then we all had the “difference”, we regret or rejoice. But in fact, they are only our imaginations; the only true paths those existed are the path we are on today, they do not change whether we liked them or not.

In life we come upon many decisions, and sometimes we found ourselves caught between a rock and a hard place trying to make a choice but there are points where we have to let the fate take the lead. "The Road Not Taken" focus on the idea of choice. The path that the narrator is walking on is separating in two ways, and he has to decide which direction to go. This path is not just in the forests, but also illustrates a decision in his life. Something in his life is changing, forcing him to make a choice.

Choices in your life can affect your identity in good ways and bad ways. In the poem The Road Not Taken a lot of choices was made. The traveler had to choose between two roads. One road is longer and the second one is shorter. When the traveler chose the road less traveled by it change his life forever because he got to where he is was going quicker it didn’t waste his time. If he would of took the other road that is longer he would've wasted his time.

Since the speaker does not have the capacity to travel both roads at the same time, he must decide which one to take. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, / And sorry I could not travel both.”

“The Road Not Taken” opens with a man in the woods, looking down two equally worn paths. It is a reflection on his part. This incident happened in the past and years later he is looking back at it. He recalls trying to look down both paths to see where they go, but both paths are so jagged that he can’t see very far into them. Therefore he must chose a path to take blindly and without a specific reason. He dislikes this. The speaker wishes that he could take both path, so he could know two different possibilities, and therefore be able to make a decision on which is better. But he can’t, so he decides to pick the path that is grassier. This is a superficial reason, which he knows. Both paths have been equally traveled, but since he knows he has no reason to pick one path over the other he decides to look for something that stands out, which here is the extra grassiness of one path. He knows that one path will lead to such a different and far destination from the other that he will never be able to go back and try the other path as well.
