In this portion of my paper, I will discuss how Ancient Egyptians culture on the rights of its people can be connected to how Blacks fought for their rights, discuss how the Black Power Movement and the Civil Right Movement helped bring equality, discuss how the Black Studies program at San Francisco State University was implemented, and how Black studies called for culturally grounding, academic excellence, and social relevance in its teachings.

In Ancient Egypt, men and women acquired distinct roles in the society of Ancient Egypt. However, unlike in many ancient civilizations, women have considered men's equal rights under the law. Just like men, women could run businesses, own property, etc. Women in ancient Egypt had a great many rights. Women in Ancient Egypt got married at a very young age, around the age of twelve or thirteen. The Egyptians did not have big marriage ceremonies and most marriages were arranged by the two families. Although women retained equal rights under the law, they were generally considered lower than men in Ancient Egyptian society.

The reason we are free is because in 1766 The Declaration of Independence was signed also The Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948. We are also free because the US and British fought for 7 years until the US won our freedom.

Freedom is being able to worship the God of my choice, in the way I see fit, without fear of ridicule, reprisals, or discrimination. It is the ability to speak my mind, and express my feelings freely and openly, even if unpopular, without fear of oppression, suppression, or imprisonment. Freedom believes in, and celebrates, the unique God-given rights and gifts of every individual man and women. Freedom is strong and bold and proud. It does not fear. It will not waiver.

Some say it’s being able to make your own decisions or having justice. But what does freedom mean to me? When you are free, you have a sense of being free. Feeling free to me means having the ability to be able to express yourself and your beliefs without being judged by others. With freedom, there is equality, happiness, and respect of yourself and others. But freedom is more than being just free. Freedom comes with desire too.
