I agree with you, in its simplest form the UET is a reasonable theory. In its dangerous form, the Bush administration used it as a means to justify rather unconstitutional actions. You mentioned that this theory is the path to government corruption. I believe executive acts like the Patriot Act and the Travel Ban have already led America down that slippery slope. These acts of overreaching power by the President cause Americans to lose trust in the government. Expanding Presidential power should not come at the cost of civil liberties and justice. At no time should the President be above the law. The Constitution should not be interpreted to fit the agenda of a power hungry position. In times of crisis, I can see how unilateral executive power
I believe the Constitution is too vague. The dilemma lies in the details or lack of details. If the objective is free speech, it is much easier to just simply say free speech then to try and express every single instance where free speech is and is not allowed. While vagueness does allow for flexibility, it also allows some corruption, but corruption only comes from those who abuse the system. One example of corruption is in December 2005, the American Civil Liberties Union reported what they believed was one of the worst abuses of the Constitution since 9/11, the National Security Agency tapped into telephone calls of American citizens without a warrant, which violates the Fourth Amendment.
Government corruption has been going on for too long and only got worse when President Obama walked into office. The people haven’t seen freedom in this country for a long time. We have been lied to many times and the people have been brainwashed by false information by the media. America has increased in corruption, the email scandal with Hillary Clinton, and Obama wanting to pardon Hillary.
Power and corruption seem to be words that most people would say go hand in hand. Why is this, though? Does power lead to corruption or is there some other correlation? Maybe it is powerlessness that actually brings corruption. Everyone to some extent is powerless; even the highest leaders are not absolute. Power is at all times up to question, as anyone could lose it with just a few events. Also the only way to be absolute in power would be complete world domination, which no one person has ever possessed. Thus everyone is somewhat powerless and it is this quality that brings people to corruption as they search for ultimate power.
This action taken by the President and the NSA was a breach of trust between the government and American citizens. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) describes Warrantless Wiretapping to be a wrongful exercise of power and a violation of the First and Fourth Amendments of the United States Constitution (ACLU, 2006). Similarly, according to the rule of US District Court Judge Anna Diggs Taylor, “The President of the United States … has indisputably violated the Fourth in failing to procure judicial orders as required by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and accordingly has violated the First Amendment rights of these plaintiffs as well. (ACLU, 2006)” Written in the Constitution, the First Amendment gives American citizens the right to freedom of speech while the Fourth Amendment gives the right to privacy (United States Constitution, 1776). Any violation of the Constitution is without doubt an abuse of the Presidents’ and Congress’ authoritative power (Greengard, 2010). Following the first failed anti-terrorism project, President Bush and Congress developed another plan to make the United States
In my opinion every country is corrupt and has pliantly of bribery in their governments, businesses, and even households. Bribery in its most basic form is the practice of giving gifts of monetary value to a client or potential customer to persuade their decision. According to Black Law’s Dictionary, bribery is “The offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of any item of value to influence the actions of an official or other person in charge of a public or legal duty.” This practice constitutes a crime in most developed countries and is highly controversial. As with any controversy, bribery has its advantages as well as problems. Common advantages of bribery include gaining business without needing to have superior quality or services, building
“The evil that men do, lives after them, The good is oft’ interred with their bones”. The evil that one decides to do will be on their own conscious although it will still affect the people around them.
In the American version of a democratic system, a handful of extremely wealthy individuals and large corporations control the political system. By "funding" or bribing the candidates, they directly influence the election and nominations of presidents, governors, senators and congress members. The money is used for campaign staff, door to door voting operations, and television advertising. The continued influence of the wealthy violates the basic principle of democratic political equality. This cynical political campaign has become part of the democratic system that the politicians are not even required to justify their action. Even though a truly democratic system is too perfect to exist, a corrupted political system destroys the hope for a system that has the public's interest in mind.
Power is a very tricky thing to deal with. With power comes great responsibility. I honestly believe that only corrupt people can’t handle power. A lot of people can handle power without plummeting the world into hell on earth. For example and better explanation we’ll take presidents into perspective.
During the early 1990s when the Soviet Union was beginning to collapse, many new independent countries formed from its ashes and began to try to establish an identity for themselves. Albania, although not technically part of the Soviet Union, was majorly influenced by its communist neighbor, was one of the last countries to shed its Marxist government, and become independent. Gianni Amelio’s Lamerica sets his movie during this turbulent time period just after the communist government fell in Albania. The film is able to replicate the chaos of the transition of power and the Albanian military and police forces trying to prevent its citizens from leaving the country. Another historical aspect of the movie was the representation of corruption and outside forces taking advantage of the struggling Albanian economy.
How would one “fix” the United States of America? Quite obviously, the issues and corruptions within America cannot simply be fixed by a single solution. The best answer to a question of this capacity is an answer which targets pressing issues individually; perhaps, addressing ways to improve America given its current state if government and society. In order to improve America, reforms to campaign contribution and lobbyist need to be made which will result in refinement in the overall health of the county.
Violence changes how a person acts, thinks and lives. It all comes down for the people to decide whether they will stand up and live tomorrow or simply become an accomplice living in fear. Fear causes desperation for a clear majority of people who cannot perform their jobs because they or their families are in high risks of being targeted and threatened to death. The lack of employment in the youth is drowning certain small rural communities with criminals. Young men opt to join different illegal organizations to maintain their families and take them out of the poor. Corruption is ultimately the cancer of all these problems. The penetration of criminal organizations in the Federal Mexican government facilitates access to important and reliable
Today, our nation 's democracy is unarguably only alive on a small scale. Much of America 's population, does not uphold a civic role that consistently supplements a successful democracy. Corruption of democracy stems directly from Americans not being able to actively take responsibility for their own society or their own futures. As a result of individuals lacking responsibility in various ways, flaws in our society continue to define everything we are as part of America. Everyone in the country can uphold simple civic responsibilities, without deviating from daily routine. By misunderstanding patriotism, not participating in the government, causing tension between ideologies, and ignoring the significance of community, we are not
Even though crossing the border was a dangerous decision, the Welton 26 still risked their lives to illegally migrate because the corruption of the Mexican government affects their lifestyle, limited opportunities for survival, and to get better financial opportunities in the United States of
When the authorities go corrupt, who is there to stop them? The government? What happens when the government goes corrupt? No one has more political voice and power than the government. At least, that’s what they say. What the people don’t realize, is that they have the biggest voice over any form of government or power. They say there is strength in numbers and there is no better example than citizens who are mistreated by their own government and demand more. Citizens have many reasons to rebel. When the people start to become less and less of people and more of disposable items to the government, it becomes time for a solution. Many governments are able to resolve a solution, but there are still few that cannot. Those small few cannot,
“Corruption, improper and usually unlawful conduct intended to secure a benefit for oneself or another its forms include bribery, extortion, and the misuse of inside information. It exists where there is community indifference or a lack of enforcement policies.”(Encyclopedia Britannica). Today political Corruption in all forms exists in every country in the world. In some countries it is more prominent then in others, but no matter where you go it still occurs. Recently in mid 2013 some political corruption was brought to light in New York. “Since 2007, state senators have been more likely to be arrested then to lose their seats in a general election,” (New York Public Interest Research group). In April of 2013 New York State
