Zeus was one of the main gods that was featured a lot in the Ancient Greece myths. He was the King of the gods and ruled over the sky, his main symbol was the thunderbolt but others included the eagle and oak tree. His roman counterpart was known as Jupiter or Jove. He appeared in most myths even if they were about other gods often being the one to set the myth up or create the conflict. He was portrayed as an all-powerful protagonist and looked up to whereas today his actions would be seen as selfish and narrow minded making him an antagonist.

Each god or goddess ruled over one specific thing which gave a Ancient greeks a specific god to pray to depending on who they were trying to appease. For instance if a farmer wanted a good crop that year they might give offerings to Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. These twelve olympians were Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Aphrodite, Ares, Hermes, Hephaestus, and Hestia. Hestia would later give her seat up to Dionysus. Hades was not considered one of the twelve olympians despite the fact that he was one of the six original gods, he was left out mainly because he was the God of the Underworld, the Ancient Greeks afterlife. She was the goddess of childbirth and marriage as well as being the Queen of the Gods. Her symbols included the peacock, the cow and the wedding ring. Her roman counterpart was known as Juno. She married Zeus out of shame after he raped. Hera was Zeus’s one legal wife, as the greeks were monogamous, but this didn't stop him from having sexual relations outside of his marriage. This was because he believed that he didn't need to abide to the laws of the humans. Hera was often portrayed as being spiteful and jealous towards Zeus, because of his constant infidelity. She often would seek revenge on the whomever he took a favour, as she could not directly punish her husband as he had power over her. she would also wreck havoc on the offspring that Zeus would have with over woman and those women themselves even if they had been raped by Zeus. Zeus would often turn on her with violence if she nagged Zeus too much, with one such occasion being when she and the other gods tied Zeus in ropes and plotted to dispose of him. When he eventually got free she hung her by her wrists from the sky with weights tied to her ankles. He eventually let her down when all of the other gods swore not on rebel again. This was not a one time thing through as he would often punish her as a way to show his dominance, and to remind her that as the man of the relationship, he was the one with the power.
