Russia struggled to provide food for its populations. Citizens took control into their own hands, Ludovic Naudeau wrote in October 1917, “One morning recently I was awakened by the cries of my neighbor in the next room. His boots had been stolen. The same day the manager of a newspaper office told me that he had been robbed six of pairs of pantaloons, … “Four hundred thefts every night!” he cried; that is the average for the last two weeks,”(One Aspect of Bolshevist Liberty). Russia could not even uphold itself because the economy was not successful compared to other countries. This led people to desire a change in the government; therefore this led to the Russian Revolution. People went to different maters to get what they wanted such as stealing since they were not getting the aid that they needed and they needed financial support. This caused them to protest against their government because many people from the lower class could not take care of their families. This cause led to a greater impact compared to Tsarist weak authority.

This demonstrates that since the stress of waging war was tremendous, it should be no surprise that the first war could be a primary cause of the Russian Revolution. Moreover, the major powers of Europe hurt Russia in World War I; yet, by 1917, all the combatants horrifically suffered from the strains of war economically, proving this to be a long-term cause. This was, to a great extent, considerable because the military defeats and social strains of World War I had created a crisis in Imperial Russia. Before, Russia had some military accomplishments and they were on their way to being successful. Nevertheless, their triumphs were not long-standing; hence, Russia was not able to be victorious due to the fact that Russia decreased in economy because of the limitations in Russia. Similarly, restraints included the shortage of food and the huge problems with getting the obligatory materials for the army during World War I, which shows that this was momentous. Along with Russia being defeated and having a scarcity of supplies, Russia also showed economic oppression due to the pressure in jobs workers faced.

The Russian Revolution began in 1917 and lasted until late 1930’s, the revolution was very brutal with total death of 3 million people and 7 million people were arrested (Document 12). The revolution broke out when Nicholas II comes to power because Bloody Sunday leads to Duma, then he steps down and the Duma sets up a provisional government thus sparking the want for domination and the revolution kicks off (Book). By the end of the revolution Russia was definitely weakened in some aspects but strengthened as a nation. Therefore, the Russian people were better off after the Russian Revolution because they benefited from a better economy, government, and living conditions.

During the 1900’s the Russian Government made it extremely hard for the Bolsheviks to progress which made them revolt against the government making this a prime matter for the start of the Revolution. The Czarist government was ostracized by the common people of Russia so Tsar Nicholas II was overthrown by the Provisional Government, whom later on were overthrown by Lenin and shortly after the Bolsheviks took control over Russia. The Russian Revolution was a series of two revolutions that consisted of the February Revolution and the October Revolution. The February Revolution of March 8th, 1917 was a revolution targeted and successfully removed Czar Nicholas II from power. The February Revolution first began to take place when strikes and public protests between 1916 and early 1917 started occurring. These strikes were created to protest against and to blame Czar Nicholas II for Russia’s poor performance in WWI and severe food shortages that the country facing. Soon, violence between protesters and authorities began to escalate, and on February 24th, 1917 in the city of Petrograd, hundreds of thousands of male and female workers flooded the streets. They all had the same purpose which was to protest against the “Great War” and the monarchy. The protests began to escalate and the vastly outnumbered police were unable to control the crowds. When news of the unrest reached the czar, he ordered the military to put an end to the riots by the next day, and on February 26th, 1917, several troops of a local guard regiment fired upon the crowds, but however many soldiers felt pity and empathy for the protesters than the czar, and on the next day, more than 80,000 soldiers join the protest even directly fighting the police.

After the revolution there were several impacts, both positive and negative. Nicholas II abdicated which ended the Romanov dynasty after 300 years. He and his family were assassinated on 17 July 1918. Vladimir Lenin, the Bolshevik leader became the permanent ruler. He created free education throughout Russia (though children learned communist ideas, they were still being education about the world) and made an eight-hour working day, improving working conditions. The Russian Revolution was one of the most tragic and painful wars in all history, people got injured, lost there families and the people only started this revolution because they were not earning the right they had. They were not being treated right. They were treated as if they were insignificant people, and that did not matter at all. Many people died unfairly and others just were punished for what they did. The rulers during the revolution were known as Csar or Tsar. Since they were the ones that were ruling, they had the power, absolute power. The Russian Revolution had from five to six reasons or causes. One of the main causes was the same cause as the French Revolution: Absolute Monarchism.

After years of violent wars in which Russia was almost always defeated, the climax of tension within the Russian state came to a peak in the year 1917. The series of wars came at the price of great discontent from the Russian citizens as the country 's economy and government began to drastically suffer. The wars, plus a coexisting population boom, was too much stress on the agricultural land available to the lower class for their farming, and many people began starving. The rise of the bourgeoisie class also caused more discontent as they were put to work under poor conditions and for low wages. The Tzar, Nicholas II, was not intuitive enough to do anything to benefit his citizens, and his disregard for the issues happening in his country resulted in a loss of faith and respect towards him. It was at this point in time that the idea of Marxist socialism began to emerge, gaining great interest from the masses in the country. Through Lenin 's charismatic and motivational speeches, the Russian working class began to organize itself, resulting in the February Revolution of 1917. The society 's revolt during the first world war, made it easy for the Duma and the military to work together and force Nicholas to assent to abdicate his position as Tzar. It has been suggested that Nicholas II was ignorant of the extent to which the Russian state had deteriorated, therefore giving higher priority to international affairs, namely the World War in which he was currently engaged.
