Shark facts characteristics and behavior all sharks live in oceans. However very few species can survive in freshwater but for only for a short period. About 450 shark species have been identified so far. Sharks are cold-blooded fish that have muscular streamlined bodies with skeletons, which are made up of cartilage like other fish. Sharks have gills to breathe but the gills are not covered and can be easily seen as gill slits. There are about 5 to 7 gill slits on each side of their throat. But like bony fish, sharks do not have scales instead they have denticles which make their skin very rough. The size of the Sharks varies widely. The largest shark is the whale shark while the smallest shark is spiny dogfish shark. Sharks lack
Sharks have been creatures that can date back to over 450 billion years, and have survived through all disaster and still live on Earth today. This is a great feat for anything to stay in existence for that amount of time, and hopefully sharks can continue to live on this Earth and not go extinct. There are hundreds if not thousands of species of shark from when they first swam Earth’s oceans to when they continue to swim the same oceans. The study of sharks is a very interesting and extraordinary topic, being able to put together images of what sharks used to look like compared to sharks now is just amazing. In this vast amount of time sharks have spent on this Earth there has been many things that has changed, through evolution and adaptation. Through research and personal opinion I plan to show how sharks have evolved, what has changed through evolution and the history of
For this discussion, I chose to examine the reproductive nature of mountain lions and hammer head sharks. Mountain lions are solitary cats that live in various mountainous regions of north and south America, but a male and female come together socially in order to mate during the 3-10 day estrus period. Due to their solitary nature, mountain lions rely on scent marking in different territory as well as a mating call of the female in order to initiate the potential for sex. Typically, when a male and female find each other; they spend several days together during the mating period and he may hunt for her and run mating circles around her. Mountain lions are polygynous and both the males and females will mate with multiple individuals throughout
Pacific sleeper sharks, which are also known scavengers, can glide through the water with little body movement and little hydrodynamic noise making them successful predators. They feed by suction and cutting of their prey. They have large mouths that can inhale prey and their teeth cut up any pieces that are too large to swallow. They show a characteristic rolling motion of the head when feeding. Only in Alaska has the shark's diet been studied - most sharks' stomachs contain remains of giant Pacific octopus. They are also known to feed on bottom-dwelling teleost fishes as well as soles, flounders, Alaska pollock, rockfishes, shrimps, hermit crabs, and even marine snails. Larger Pacific sleeper sharks are also found to feed on fast swimming
Who wouldn’t want a Hammerhead Shark as a pet? Even though I think sharks are awesome, and other people agree there’s a few little things you might want to consider before you think you could have one as your man’s best friend. The rest of this paper is about the reasons why you shouldn’t have a Hammerhead Shark as your new BFWF. (Best Friend With Fins.)
On ABC’s Good Morning America’s Weekend Adventure special, viewers were taking to new depths of excitement and adventure as tourists went face to face with the beautiful Caribbean Reef Shark off the coast of the Bahamas. The video clip we saw showed tourists from around the world getting up close and personal with these huge, majestic fish. Participates were ecstatic after there trip down under with the fish. One tourist says, “No other dive compares to it”. How have these people been attracted to these adventure dives, and what makes these so appealing? Those are the questions I will explain in the next paragraph.
the black tip shark has a very pointy nose in fact more pointy than any other sharks it uses a chemical odor to attract a mate near by.
Media is an essential part of my life. It informs me, influences me, and inspires me. Media provides entertainment, creativity, and knowledge. My experience with media has been very positive. It’s very rare that media doesn’t have a say in my decisions, anywhere from what brand to get or what I’m going to eat next. The way that media has changed my life the most however, is through Shark Week. Shark Week is a weeklong event where once a year the Discovery Channel only plays shows about the newest, biggest, most unusual sharks found.
Thresher Sharks, a giant of the sea who survives for twenty five to fifty years, and you would believe that they have ways to survive. You believe right, they have strategies and features that allow them to survive in the demanding habitat of the ocean. The Thresher shark’s life starts when a female gives birth to four to six baby Threshers. As a newly born Thresher they are four to five feet long and tend to favor coastal shallows for the protection that it provides. As the Thresher grows into the giant of the sea it is, it will start to roam open water. There it will start hunt, it’s prey consist of fish like, lacets, blue fish, menhaden, mackerel, herring, squid, octopus, and even crustaceans. It is more known for eating schools of fish
Sharks have streamlined bodies and a special set of organs which makes sharks special from other fish. When sharks attack, they have a special lining that moves over the eye to protect the eye from debris in the water. This lining, however, renders the sharks blind sometimes missing their prey, this is why they usually come out of the water or “breach” into the air during an attack. They are not really good swimmers, but sharks can swim very fast,
Narrative Thesis: In this painting there are a group of men that are trying to save a boy that is drowning. There is one man on the boat who is trying to get the shark away from the boy with a rod looking object. There are two men who are bending over the rim of the boat trying to get a grab of the boys arms. This scene seems to be happening in the middle of the sea, near a harbor full of ships. I believe the group of men came to rescue the little boy that's drowning and getting attacked by the shark.
When people first came to the New World they experienced a multitude of new flora and fauna, some of which was potentially dangerous. In 1642, in what would become New York City, a settler in the New World came across something quite dangerous in the Hudson River. As all good horror stories begin, it was a dark and stormy night on the Hudson. Anthony Van Corlaer, a Dutch settler in the New World, decided to try to swim across the Hudson. With the raging weather it would have been easy to simply say that Corlaer drowned, and that he was overtaken by a raging river. Yet, this was not the case. Witnesses said that he was overtaken by the devil himself, dragged below the surface, never to return. At the time no one was certain what the
Do you ever wonder what the scariest animal is? There are many different animals, but the most feared is the shark. They are the most unique creatures in the ocean. They have hundreds of teeth in their mouth which make them seem scary. When sharks lose their teeth, there is always another tooth to replace it. Sharks have been around for more than 75,000,000 years. They are located all over the world. There are more than 300 species of sharks. These creatures have many talents and are very intelligent. I am not afraid of sharks because they are helpful to the environment, they can spit garbage out, and sharks are protective of their homes just like we are.
Do you know what a mako shark is? They are curious beings and are closely related to the great white shark. Tagged by ocearch, Lazarus and other sharks are helping the ocean’s ecosystem.
The megamouth shark (Megachasma pelagios) is a species of deepwater shark. It is rarely seen by humans and is the smallest of the three extant planktivorous sharks, besides the whale shark and basking shark. Since its discovery in 1976, few megamouth sharks have been seen, with 61 specimens known to have been caught or sighted as of April 2015, including three recordings on film. Like the other two filter-feeders, it swims with its enormous mouth wide open, filtering water for plankton and jellyfish. It is distinctive for its large head with rubbery lips. It is so unlike any other type of shark that it is usually considered to be the sole extant species in the distinct family Megachasmidae, though suggestion has been made that it may belong
Once upon a time there was a princess dolphin shark that was panicked!!!!! She was a very frightened dolphin shark. Since she was frightened she was put on the patrolling crew in her palace. She was the prettiest dolphin shark you could ever see!!!!! Of course, there was her interfering mother that always made her smile but this time it didn't work. Her mother is also really good at skiing. She is also the queen of the dolphin shark community. Her father is good at bossing dolphin sharks around, so that is why he became the king. Why she is the most frightened dolphin shark is because her sister dolphin shark got attacked by a great white shark named Dwight Great White. She is afraid Dwight will come back to eat the rest of her family
