Women just aren’t built for the job of frontline combat. Infantrymen have to carry an estimated 100 pounds on their back. At the same time they have to load 90 pound shells into guns that are nearly double the size of that ammunition. This is one of the reasons that women can not handle the stress of frontline combat. Men are built more for the conditions of combat with their broader shoulders and backs, and thicker necks. Women have 45 to 50 percent less upper-body strength, and 25 to 30 percent less aerobic capability. Also men are born with more testosterone in their body. Testosterone enhances the body’s ability to build muscle, which also makes men more built and made for the physical toll of combat. If we bring women into combat then
Women have been fighting alongside men on battlefields for centuries upon centuries, giving their greatest fight to lead their team to victory. Although women are given this opportunity, direct ground combat amongst women remains against the law till this very day, allowing a gender to define what a female can, or cannot do. The human race continues to evolve every day, yet a simple discriminatory law that decides what a woman’s capabilities are without being aware of just how empowering that specific woman is is the same as it first was. Despite the idea that women do not meet certain requirements in order to take place in combat units, women continue to provide an endless amount of support to men on battlefields, bringing a completely
There are many different arguments from various feminist groups, politicians and even average Americans. Many of these individuals have never experienced day to day life in a war zone and generate their opinions based on social concepts developed in the safety of a free country. The primary argument I have against the integration of women in direct combat roles, are the physical characteristics of women verses men.
Women have always served in the United States Military, since the beginning of the existence of the United States. I will make the argument, that women can and should be allowed to serve in combat roles, that are traditionally open for men only. Combat does not distinguish between the sexes. This is an important issue for everyone. The main reason, why women have never been allowed to be in combat roles, is because the sight of a wounded woman on the battle field makes for heart breaking image. It should not matter what the gender is, as long as they get the job done on the battlefield. The conventional ways of fighting a war, does not exist anymore. We all have a part, women and men. There is only one
However, this thinking misses the point. History has shown as far back as the Revolutionary War, women such as Molly Pitcher, who took up her husband’s position as an artillery gunner, after he was injured in combat. More recently during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have had many women put into stressful combat situations, with very little training, and were able to engage the enemy effectively, and in some cases displayed courageous actions that saved lives. They were able to physically and mentally handle the combat stress equally with their male counterparts.
A woman in combat was a trending topic for the armed forces for years. The year 2016 is when officially women have been granted the right to join the armed forces in a combat field of the job. Others, particularly in the military, are against this act because of various reasons concerning the safety of military troops in an anarchy form of living. A battlefield is known to be the most stressful and dangerous environment, and it is vital for the armed forces to conduct safety and simpleness to remove any complicated areas that might make the job more difficult. Efficiency, communication, and most importantly trust and loyalty are essential to perform in such a violent atmosphere.
There are definitely women that are stronger and more capable than some men. To be in a combat role you have to be physically and mentally prepared; there are people who are either one or the other, but not both. Soldiers who are both physically and mentally prepared are usually the ones put in combat roles. Most combat soldiers end up being men because there are some women in the military that are constantly being put down for being a woman who wants to be in combat. I think that if a woman has the quality of a combat soldier then she should be put in that combat
For many years, only men were allowed to be in the military and in combat; whereas women were only allowed to aid. According to John in Men and Women in the Military are Equal, But They Are Not The Same, men have more muscle mass that makes them stronger than women. Women have 45 percent less muscle mass and 20 percent less lung capacity than men. When in combat, strength and endurance are important characteristic that soldiers should possess. This shows that the human body and biology may be the reason why men and women have different level of strengths and weaknesses. Through training, both men and women are capable to gain muscle Tia Ghose, in Women in Combat: Physical Differences May Mean Uphill Battle, states a study, in the journal of Applied Physiology, had found evidence that men had an average of 26 lbs more skeletal muscle mass than women. The muscle is important because there are a plethora of tasks
Opponents of putting women in combat question whether they have the necessary strength and stamina. They also have said the inclusion of women in infantry and other combat units may harm unit cohesion, this is similar to the argument regarding
First of all, women are not as strong as men. The average twenty year old woman is as strong as the average fifty year old man. Also, the amount of women who have the same upper-body strength, stamina, and endurance as a well-developed man is shockingly small. In the military, the standards of fitness are made for men, so women are at greater risk of injury trying to reach them. Even
Women are not ready to join the ranks of men in the combat arms. Gender equality has no place on the battlefield. This is based on the following reasons: 1) Biologically, women are not equipped to handle the body stresses that are associated with combat roles. 2) The addition of women in combat roles will undoubtedly increase the number of sexual assaults, STDs, and pregnancies in the various military units. 3) History has shown that the military lowers its standards for women. In a combat role, women must be able to complete the standards that are set for men.
The woman must be tougher to protect herself from the men that she works with. There is sexual assualt that occurs because women are the minority in the combat field. Women are advised to stay in pairs for their own protection and carry weapons. This is unbelievable that these woman have to be in high alert
The site of death or action of killing will eventually get to any man or women and will put immense psychological stress on them. Releasing this stress is something every direct combat soldier needs to release from time to time. Stabbing the enemy's chest was one soldier's way of surviving the rigors of war, while another's was reflecting at the end of the day and thinking of he was going to get back to his family. The stresses of war overcoming the emotional state of women is a very common possibility in todays world. Because of this, it endangers a women's ability to do her job which could get herself or members of her unit killed in a second. This weakness is to much of a risk for a combat unit to have on the battlefield. The emotions that we have under a normal day conditions have a great affect on our health and affects the ability to how we interact with others. When we put these emotions under extreme stress and add violence and all of the other emotions that could arise while on the battlefield, death and fatigue and especially the emotions of most women would deteriorate at a much higher rate than that of men's. Another issue women face when wanting to be integrated into currently all male specialty jobs is peer acceptance. Psychologists explain that when a person is ostracized from a group of peers or
Women have played a tremendous role in many countries' armed forces from the past to the present. Women have thoroughly integrated into the armed forces; all positions in the armed forces should be fully accessible to women who can compete with men intellectually and physically.
When it comes to combat assignments and the needs of the military, men take precedence over all other considerations, including career prospects of female service members. Female military members have been encouraged to pursue opportunities and career enhancement within the armed forces, which limit them only to the needs and good of the service due to women being not as “similarly situated” as their male counterparts when it comes to strength or aggressiveness, and are not able to handle combat situations.
Emotionally and mentally, women are less fit for combat. Women share their feelings more than men, and are effected by many different things. Seeing a friend shot and killed would devastate both a man and a woman, but a man is more likely to stay with his platoon and get the job done. Women, for the most part, are more independent thinkers when it comes to military; men are better at taking orders. What would seem like a suicide mission could be the turning point in a battle. Men would most likely follow the orders, while the women would think about it and be hesitant. Men also take more risks than women, this is proved by car insurance rates. A man is much better mentally and emotionally fit for combat
