Motivation
MacIntyre et al. (2001) define motivation as “an attribute of the individual describing the psychological qualities underlying behavior with respect to a particular task” (p. 463). The study of motivation as a predictor of second language learning performance was initiated by Gardner and his Canadian colleagues (1972).
According to Gardner and Lambert (1972), there are two kinds of motivation: integrative motivation, referring to a holistic learning approach toward the speech and culture of the target language group, and instrumental motivation, referring to language learning for more immediate or practical goals. Both types are important. A learner might learn an L2 well with an integrative motivation or with an instrumental one, or indeed with both (Cook, 1991). . The level of identification with bilingual or trilingual identity is also influenced by the learners’ attitudes toward the learning situation. These attitudes refer to the individuals’ reactions to anything associated with the immediate context (e.g., the course and the teaching environment) in which the language is taught (Gardner, 1985).All the men show higher instrumental motivation towards foreign language learning than woman.
Instrumental motivation, also called rational, pragmatic and utilitarian, refers to the individual’s desire to acquire a second language in order to use it for operational purposes, to pass an examination, acquire a job, or visit a foreign country (ibid). Rahman explains rational language learning as the learning of a language “in order to empower oneself by acquiring the potential to acquire employment” (2002). . It has been pointed out that Gardner’s motivation theory includes an educational dimension and that, the Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB), that he and his colleagues developed contains several items focusing on the learner's evaluation of the teacher and classroom learning situation. In a work setting, motivation can be defined as a process through which individuals choose between alternative forms of behavior with the aim of achieving personal objectives. Many popular theories of second language acquisition have been analyzed throughout history. The socialization of L2 learners, their present emotional state that is present at the time of acquisition, as well as the comprehensible input and output with the use of scaffolding play a major role in second language acquisition. Kirsten Hummel states, “The one most effective way to increase L2 competence was by exposure to ‘comprehensible input’.” (Hummel, 2014, p. 73) Let us also not forget the importance of written expression as well as reading comprehension with these L2 learners. Each plays a role in language development. However, I believe that to acquire language one must use a variety of techniques that work together to create a balance within the learning environment. Furthermore, all L2 learners acquire language differently and so using a variety of resources that are based on the ability of each student is neccesary. There are many theories that have been developed by highly qualified experts in the field of linguistics. However, I will address those areas that I agree with as I present my personal theories on second language acquisition.

Among all these factors, motivation is one of the most significant one. Dorneyi (2001 a) addresses the relevance of motivation by asserting, “ ‘motivation' is related to one of the most basic aspects of the human mind, and most teachers and researchers would agree that it has a very important role in determining success or failure in any learning situation. My personal experience is that 99 per cent of language learners who really want to learn a foreign language (i.e. who are really motivated) will be able to master a reasonable working knowledge of it as a minimum, regardless of their language aptitude.”
Students want and need work that enables them to demonstrate and improve their sense of themselves as competent and successful human beings. This is the drive toward mastery. But success, while highly valued in our society, can be more or less motivational. People who are highly creative, for example, actually experience failure far more often than success. Biehler (p. 225) claims that studies show that when CAI used in conjunction with a teacher's lessons, is particularly beneficial for low-achieving and young students.
What is motivation? What influences it? The term motivation can be defined in different ways. Motivation can simply defined as “ a need that, if high, is evident in a strong desire to achieve, to excel, to reach a high level of excellence” (Lefrancois 430). To become motivated, one must have a positive attitude to a variety of learning skills. Some factors that influence motivation include our peers, friends, parents, and environmental settings. Division four being high school division, attention is focused towards learning and what methods can be used. Students at this stage are more eager and develop a sense of what he or she wants to do and accomplish in upcoming adulthood. With a division comes a group of intelligent theorists. All
Baron (1983) says that “motivation is a set of process concerned with a kind of force that energizes behavior and directs it towards achieving some specific goals” (Baron, 1983, p. xxx). According to Kreitner and Kinicki (2001, p.162) motivation represents “those psychological processes that cause the stimulation, persistence of voluntary actions that are goal directed”. Consequently, these definitions lead to the assumption that motivation is something evolving from within an individual as well as the individual being influenced by external factors.
