The Subculture of Street Art
In today’s society street art has managed to reach every country worldwide. In the film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” a film by a street artist named Banksy that tells the story about Thierry Guetta a French man who lives in Los Angles that falls in love with the subculture and films the life known as graffiti or to some people that love it, it is known as street art. Thierry shows the different artist and ways he explains how the subculture of street art is taking over and how the art is being looked at in the wrong way. Street art is on its way of being a huge new worldwide trend as it is on its way of becoming a mainstream culture. Graffiti to artist is not a term anymore, as the culture is now referred to street art it means something to the people that is now becoming a mass popular culture. Thierry Guetta a man who was happy with is comfortable living vintage clothing store was getting introduced to the new world of street art that his cousin the “Invader” brought him in to when he travelled to France.
In the world of street art most artists try to keep themselves anonymous. Thierry got to introduce himself with many artists. For example, Shepard Fairey who was a very well-known artist that came from the skateboarding scene who knew Thierry’s cousin Invader. Invader then takes a trip to visit Thierry in Los Angles and goes to meet with Shepard Fairey. Thierry

An example of an artist who’s work is only present in the urban environment is a Melbourne graffiti artist under the alias of Aeon. Examples of his artworks are “Black” (undated) and “Foes” (undated), both of which are considered “Pieces” produced with spray paint on a bricked surface. Such pieces are only available for viewing on the streets of Melbourne on back lanes and ally ways. The location of his works add to the effect and subjective nature of his works with the emphasis of art flourishing in all areas of the world and by
“In contrast to government-commissioned public art, street art is illicit and subversive in nature. Therefore, most street artists, including Banksy, use pseudonyms to avoid legal prosecution for vandalism.”(Chung 27) Banksy’s street art does not focus on competing with rival artists, but focuses on engaging with a broader audience in a deeper level. He provokes his audience by deeply expressing out various social practices that helps viewers to reflect and confront certain aspects together as a community. (27) The underlying message of Banksy’s art can lead towards an active involvement of street art within the community.
According to Boyd, through Graffiti is essential to understand as a form of art that crosses the boundaries of location, method, and motivation. He acknowledges that graffiti might include “racist remarks, empty slogans and illegal signatures.”(Boyd 251) Boyd’s piece is also very informative because according to the author, there are two methods for creating this form of art: murals and tagging. The most popular one is tagging because it can be found almost everywhere from fence posts to trains, street walls to buses. The main goal of graffiti writers is to put their signature tags in places to be recognized by their
Street art is a visual art created all over the streets, it can be present in a form of posters, graffiti, window paints, and murals, among others. All of those artists that chose to exhibit their art on the streets, rather than in a museum or gallery is because they are situated it in a non-art context. The products they use to produce their art works most of the time are: free hand aerosol paints, krink markers, plutonium paints and graffiti remover used to create perfect images all over the cities. Street art adorn the urban landscape, explode the skills of the artists, and finally but no less important, is constructive providing a specific social message for all the audience.
In the 1980’s the art world was gifted with the artist Jean michel basquiat. Basquiat, a man who lived two contrasting lives as street artist and “fine artist” in the art punk movement of the 1980’s. His work as a street artist was full of poetic and provocative messages painted in the streets of Manhattan New York, and his work as a “fine artist” did the same on gigantic canvases with looming figures in bold colours. Regardless of this dichotomy, his work in both of these practices has the ability to bring light to issues he and many others were facing and are still facing now. In particular, Basquiat’s work brought light to his personal experience with racism and struggle with otherness in and outside of the brutal art world. The next paragraphs will discuss how Jean Michel Basquiat delt and fought the oppressive systems of his time through his art.
Jean-Michel Basquiat emerged from the punk scene in New York as a street-smart graffiti artist. He successfully crossed over his downtown origins to the international art gallery circuit. Basquiat’s work is one of the few examples of how an early 1980’s American graffiti-based could become a fully recognized artist. Despite his work’s unstudied appearance, Basquiat very skillfully and purposefully brought together in his art a host of disparate traditions, practices and styles to create a unique kind of visual collage. His work is an example of how American artists of the 1980’s could reintroduce the human figure in their work after the wide success of minimalism and conceptualism.
The cutting edge of the public art development, connected with the hip-hop society of breakdancing and rap music, began with African-American and Latino teenagers in Philadelphia and New York in the late 1960s (MacDonald 1). At that time graffiti to most, was considered to be a form of art work. Regardless of those that thought of it as art, there were and are still numerous individuals that loathe the graffiti movement. Works of art have been dependably charming for ages, as it is a method for self-expression and inventiveness. Artistic expressions have advanced in many ways, such as public canvases offering an approach to modern day unique artwork. Graffiti is progressively turning into a hobby. Although one of the major controversies of graffiti surround the statement that it is not art and considered vandalism, graffiti allow artists to display grateful meanings, skills and expressions to the public.
To fully understand street art as a concept in itself, it is vital to explore why the art is made on, and for, the street. According to Chung (2009) art on the street “allows artists a platform to reach a broader audience than traditional art forms”. This is supported by Young (2016) who argues that the “street is the biggest gallery you could ever want”, the author goes on to note that often a “galleries audience is self-selecting and homogenous”- belonging in an “elitist art world”. This implies that unlike classical art in galleries, street art cannot discriminate and is open and available to everyone despite their background or beliefs. Not only does the street allow the art to be widely seen, its accessibility indicates the ideas of
There are many street artists in Paris and many of them are famous. Enjolras doesn’t understand art, it isn’t his field, even more it isn’t his field the contemporary custom of staining the streets that most of the people call art. But actually he didn’t know that Grantaire made graffiti.
Also, Banksy faces dangerous situation in his everyday life because he is doing illegal jobs and his work put him in danger situations. To illustrate, when to put his work in magic mouse Disney land, he almost caught by security. Also, when he post his art, he has to clap the roof of the higher building, and he has to go there at night after 10:00 pm or midnight. Also, Banksy is talented and experienced graphic artist. For instance, the painting he posted in the public area, and the create he make in his exhibition show is inspired by many people including Thierry. Also, Banksy first show got many appreciations o On the other thing; Thierry Guetta is a France guy who lives in Los Angeles, have known the identity, face a dangerous situation, and amateur and filmmaker. Firstly, Thierry is a natural family who has known identity in public. For instance, Thierry shows his wife and his children in the shows, and he talks about where and how grew up. Also, he is a friendly guy. He also there on his exhibition show, and answer people, who are there to attend the show, question. Thierry faces several dangerous situations starting from 2005 to 2010 the time that he starts taking a picture and filming street

Walking down the streets of New York City, on the left the entire wall is covered in art, with a wide spectrum of graffiti, ranging from the word New York to drawings of the Statue of Liberty and many more pieces such as gang-related phrases and drawings, the feeling of amazement is present. Graffiti, being a freelance way of expressing good and bad emotions through art, is often frowned upon due to vandalistic nature of most graffiti. Graffiti has been around since the late 1900’s and it is said that “The first modern graffiti writer is widely considered to be Cornbread… who in Philadelphia, started tagging city walls to get the attention of a girl” (De Melker). Graffiti has become more commonly found in big towns and cities. In today’s, time graffiti is beginning to be more than just gangs marking territory and evolving into its own art form. From subway cars to the sides of walls and sometimes in art galleries, graffiti can be found anywhere. Graffiti can be beautiful yet is very controversial form of art and is used for many different reasons.
The punk subculture was one of the influential revolutions on the 20th century, which originated in in the 1970s and spread across countries that included the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Australia. This subculture was based on a loud, aggressive genre of music called punk rock, and it intended to gain individual freedom for the working class. This essay explains the journey from the evolution and widespread of the punk subculture in the UK in 1980s. As the title suggests, punk fashion has been ruptured, tweaked and re interpreted by individuals and fashion designers over and over again, and its style has been re adapted to juxtapose on contemporary trends.
Street art is a visual art created in public locations. From tags to throwies to murals, street art is everywhere; and has gone mainstream. It can be humorous or thought provoking and sometimes considered by some people a nuisance to the environment. Street art has been popular in many places because of how they convey messages to everyone through art. But obviously, not everyone will like it. There are reasons why street art should be considered. And that’s what we’re going talk about. Whether it is regarded as vandalism or public art, street art exhibits self-expressive artwork, shows artistic skill and catches the interest of the art world.
The world is being swept up in a new artistic frenzy that brings color and culture to the streets of cities. It goes by many names, such as guerilla art, urban art, or neo-graffiti, but it is ultimately known as street art. Street art is now becoming a very prominent way for artists to show their opinions of the world and politics, and also gives the artist a public place to show their talent. It may not be a very old form of art, but art of its kind is beginning to be recognized around the world. There is a very large debate about whether certain kinds of street art may be considered vandalism and graffiti, or artistic and decorative. Regardless, street art is the voice of a generation that depicts many of the different life styles of the
