The Suffragettes
The suffragettes were a group of women who believed in votes for women.
The suffragettes were usually women of middle or upper class backgrounds. Most of the British suffragettes belonged to one of two main groups.
One of these groups being the WSPU. The WSPU was founded in Manchester in 1903 by Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Christabel. The WSPU believed in militant protest, and were known for assaulting police officers, chaining themselves to railings, breaking all the windows in oxford street as well as breaking church windows, (as the church of England was against votes for women), to name a few.
They were also known for getting themselves imprisoned and refusing to eat, resulting in them being force fed. Force feeding
