The Tell-Tale Heart and The Premature Burial are two short stories by Edgar Allan Poe. The Tell-Tale Heart is about the narrator killing an old man. The Premature Burial is about a mans fear of being buried alive. The theme of the two works are closely related to fear and guilt. Poe’s stories have terrifying plots, solid themes and literary criticism. The Tell-Tale heart starts as An unknown narrator says he is nervous but not mad. Then he informs the reader that he will be telling a story about how he killed a old man. He killed the old man not for money,passion or desire but for fear of his eye. Every night he goes to the old man 's apartment observes him and in the morning acts like everything is normal. On the eighth night the narrator is heard, the old man shrieks the narrator sits there stalking him. The narrator then hears a thumping sound that he thinks the neighbors might hear so he he attacks and kills the old man. The narrator then states that he cleans up thoroughly and dismembers and hides his pieces of the old man.. As he finishes his job, the clock turns on 4. At the same time, the narrator hears a knock at the street door. The police are at the door. the neighbors had heard the shrieks of the old man and called the police office. The narrator lets the police in acting like nothing happened telling them that it was simply him yelling in his dreams. The man is careful to act cheerful and chatty in order not to look suspicious. He leads the police officers
