Ray Bradbury was a poet, novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and playwright. He wrote science fiction and fantasy pieces that “…have sharply raised the public estimation of these three genres” (Sharp 219). In Ray Bradbury’s famous book, Fahrenheit 451, he strongly emphasizes a dystopian society surrounded by censorship and irony.
Ray Bradbury, born in 1920, Waukegan, Illinois had two brothers that were twins, named Leonard and Samuel. He also had one younger sister named Elizabeth. Bradbury recalls, in detail, very much about this time in his childhood. He has memories and images in his head from when he was a child, of very famous people. These memories and images are said to have had a great influence on him as the fiction writer he is. Robbin Reid states, “Memories and images of Chaney and Quasinado, a deformed man perceived as a monster…” (Reid 2). Reid also writes, “Seeing Lon Chaney in The Hunchback of Norte Dame at her age of three, profoundly affected him” (Reid 2). He grew up with a passion for science fiction. “Bradbury’s work involves a wide variety of media, all of which shaped him as a writer. His creations have been brought into video games, the stage, and screen” (Reid 3).
Once Bradbury graduated high school, he lived in Venice, California. He was selling newspapers while trying to become a professional writer. Furthermore, he found himself in the midst of selling dozens and dozens of short stories. Reid concludes, “Although eye problems kept him from
