Recently we have read the renown tragic play of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. As we all know, this tragedy ends by the untimely death of Juliet and her Romeo. But after putting down the book, a question comes to mind: who is truly at fault for the death of those two teenagers? Who is truly responsible for turning this story into a tragedy? Or is anyone even guilty at all? After some reflection, I have come to the conclusion that nobody is really at fault, but that everybody did a little something and that all those little somethings added up to create a big something, the death of the two protagonists. Yet, if I had to choose the people who, although unintentionally, contributed to this tragic ending, I believe that Lord Capulet and Benvolio are the most to blame, for their lack of sentiments and betrayals.
Lord Capulet and Romeo and Juliet themselves are the most responsible for their deaths because Lord Capulet arranged the marriage between Juliet and Paris
The play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare is famous for its tragic ending, but which characters caused it? Lord Capulet’s, Tyblat’s, and Friar Lawrence’s actions had the most effect on the ending because they led to Romeo and Juliet feeling very emotional and making poor decisions because of it. Lord Capulet said, “My will to her consent is but a part” of Juliet at the beginning of the story(I,iii,7). Capulet saying this would make the reader think that he wouldn’t force Juliet to marry someone, but that didn’t end up happening. Instead, after threatening to disown Juliet unless she agreed to marry Paris, Capulet told her, “I’ll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning”(IV,i,69).
The most to blame for their deaths is the Capulets, Friar Laurence, Romeo and Juliet. Paris wanted to marry Juliet and Capulet decided to arrange the marriage. However, Juliet does not want to marry Paris. She would do anything to not marry Paris. Lady Capulet wanted Romeo to be killed instead of being banished for killing Tybalt. The Capulets had a big feud with the Montagues, Romeo's parents. Friar Laurence has been helping Romeo a lot during the story, however he could have got in trouble and be punished for bringing Romeo and Juliet together.
