Romeo and Juliet Who is at fault? In the tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” the author William Shakespeare kills off most of the main characters in a series of events. The question is: who started this devastating ending? Lord Capulet and Lord Montague are the characters most to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet because they started this feud, they taught their children to hate the other family, and their children felt like they needed to keep secrets from them. Lord capulet and Lord Montague are the most to blame for the events that occur in Romeo and Juliet because they started this family feud. In the play the text never describes what started this feud between the two families, but Lord Capulet and Lord Montague, if they did not start it, they certainly did not try to end it which is where the problem comes in. They blame the other family for most their own problems. In the play Paris says “By thee old capulet, and montague, have thrice disturbed the quiet of our streets.”(Rom.1.1.88-89) Paris was telling the two family heads that they have caused enough disturbance already before, and that no one needs their …show more content…

The two family heads have held onto their feelings of hate and it has not done them any good, if anything it has got them into worse situations. Romeo and Juliet's parents might have even approved of their marriage if they had forgiven the other family. In Romeo and Juliet, Lord Montague's wife says to Lord Capulet “Thou shalt not stir one foot to seek a foe.”(Rom.1.1.78) If they had let go of the hate and resentment sooner, then perhaps the events that took place in the play would have taken a better turn.
