The Bermuda Triangle. You may have heard of it but, do you know what it is? The Bermuda Triangle lies near the South-East coast of the United States and forms a triangle in the Atlantic Ocean. The corners of the triangle are: Miami, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Bermuda; a north-Atlantic island which the name Bermuda Triangle originated from. What is so mysterious about these waters? Well, unexplained events happened in which planes flying over this area have mysteriously disappeared leaving no trace behind. Even boats sailing into these waters have disappeared without a trace. Douglas Dakota or the DC-3 as it is more commonly called, was one of the most reliable aircraft ever built. More than ten thousand planes of this type were manufactured, and even know hundreds remain in use. These are propeller driven aircraft not to be confused with a jet plane. You will see lots of these aircraft in Florida and around the isalnd’s. Their job is generally island hopping, traveling from island to island. Because of small distances between the islands and the short runways, the large jet planes are unfit for such activities and small planes like, the DC-3, is best suited for this activity. The DC-3 is also used as private charter planes by many airlines and for spraying pest control from the air. Now let 's get into the real details of the mysterious Flight of DC-3. This event took place at 7:40 p.m. December twenty seventh, nineteen forty eight. The DC-3 had just landed moments before at the San Juan airport in Puerto Rico. It had just flown in from Miami, FL and was scheduled to return soon after a short stop. Upon landing, the captain of this flight, Captain Bob Linquist, reported to the ground engineers that the lights for the landing gear had malfunctioned and had not come on at the time of landing. The engineering crew immediately checked and came to the conclusion that the battery was weak and running low on water.
