The Truman Show: A Fictitious Reality The Truman Show tells the story of Truman Burbank, a man with an ideal life; however, everything he thinks is true is all part of the distorted reality of “The Truman Show.” Truman grows up in a broadcast fictitious life from the moment of his is birth to the moment he realizes his life is distant from reality. Truman’s thoughts, actions and feelings are all evoked by the controlled events and experiences in his life. Christof, the creator of “The Truman Show,” never gives Truman the chance to experience his true human nature, nor does he give him the opportunity to live an authentic life. The manipulated reality of “The Truman Show” goes against all ethics because Truman never gets the opportunity to build honest relationships, live in a nonfictional world, and appreciate his freedom. …show more content…

Truman’s parents are not his real parents; his best friend is pretending to have a sincere friendship with him, and his wife does not have a genuine love for him. The feelings that Truman has towards them are sincere, but the feelings they have towards Truman are not mutual. For example, when Truman goes to Marlon, his best friend, to explain the confusion he faces, the words that Marlon says to Truman are part of the script. Therefore, the relationships that Truman has with his parents, wife, and friends lack integrity as those relationships are untruthful.
