Christopher Columbus was an Italian sailor whose dream on conquering the world in the sea awaken a new era of Colonization. Today many people all over the world might know him as the founder of America. However, there is more history behind it. Christopher Columbus came from a middle class family. Later in years when the famous Marco polo brought silk, spices and other

First, he enslave some population of Native People. Second, many native people were exploited and send to Europe to be used as mine golds for Spanish settlers. Despite all the horrendous things Christopher Columbus did he did in fact awaken a new era of Colonization, was an incredible sailor, revolutionize the way some people think about the earth being round not flat, intended to raise up settlements. In the year 1506 he died with the idea that he had reach Asia. Christopher Columbus is an internationally celebrated explorer, due to his voyages to Central America during the Age of Discovery, a period between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries when explorers were sponsored by eastern countries to claim land. Columbus was an Italian explorer, on a conquest for gold and riches, who was sponsored by the monarchs of Spain, Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, to travel to Southern Asia. Columbus proposed the idea of traveling from East to West, rather than traveling along the borders of countries and continents, such as Africa and Asia, to eastern countries for gold, spices, and other riches for the monarchs. When Columbus succeeded in landing in the New World, he believed he landed in Southern Asia, but rather he landed in Hispaniola, modern day Haiti and Dominican Republic. The “New World” was a term used for the area Columbus landed in, on October 12, 1492. When Columbus landed in the New World, it was inhabited by native people, who were used by the Spaniards to help navigate and understand the landscape of the islands and as workers to find gold. Columbus has a mixed legacy because he had positive and negative attributes; he made the Columbian Exchange, which increased biodiversity in the New World, and is an important explorer in American history, but also began the African slave trade and caused population devastation due to slavery and diseases in the native populations. The legacy of Christopher Columbus should be remembered as a villain because he was greedy for wealth and power, he introduced diseases to the New World, and enslaved and used violence against the natives.
Have you ever wondered why America has had an annual holiday known as Columbus Day ever since the early 1900s? While enjoying the day off has the question of why an Italian explorer has a day dedicated to him in America ever occurred to you? Probably not, but every American with at least an elementary education has the general knowledge that Christopher Columbus is the hero credited with discovering America. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to even say that he is a national icon. In actuality, he’s far from being a hero. Although he did find a land that was unknown to the “civilized” world, his actions after the discovery illustrate no characteristics of being heroic at all.
Christopher Columbus is best known for his voyage across the Atlantic where he accidentally discovered America. He paved the way for future exploration and set the course for history. Although Columbus is known as a historical hero for this discovery, he committed many awful acts along the way. Therefore, this writer concludes that Columbus was more of a villain than a hero.
After many centuries, a lot of controversy still surrounds Christopher Columbus. He remains to be a strange figure in history regarded as a famous explorer and a great mariner who made many discoveries in his days. Other people still regard him as a visionary and a national hero while others chose to remember him as a brutal and greedy person who used the rest of the humanity for his own selfish gains. Despite the fact that there have been protests in his being honored through a holiday referred to as the Columbus Day, he still deserves recognition and acknowledgement as a historical figure performed a great role in the making of the modern world.
Christopher Columbus is commonly known as the “discoverer” of the Americas. From a young age students are taught all the wonderful things he did for our land and how well he interacted with the Natives. Although the truth is disregarded and as students grow, they come to learn that Columbus was not a hero in fact. Columbus came close to causing a genocide of the Native Americans, and basically began the “white power” movement that America is forced to deal with today. The truth of what Christopher Columbus did makes him no better than Hitler, yet America still praises him as an important figure in our history. The actions of Columbus has impacted all Americans lives since the 1400’s when he first landed on American soil. Although it did make America into the super power it is today, the structure within the borders will never be equal because of his abuse of power back then. Christopher Columbus is not the hero American students are taught from a young age and does not deserve any of the praise or recognition that we as American citizens continue to give him on a daily basis.
Christopher Columbus is mainly known for being the one to uncover America. He had been labeled as a brave voyager who discovered new land, and started settlement there.
Columbus is a very influential figure in history. Because of his determination, two very different worlds met, and neither would leave the same. When Christopher Columbus sailed across the ocean in early August, 1492, he brought with him many foreign ideas and concepts, as well as new crops and animals that flourished in the new world. Columbus was able to spread christianity throughout the new world, both through force and through chance. He was also able to increase Spanish influence throughout the Americas, or what he thought were the Indies. His contribution to Europe, and Spain in particular, helped make them the leaders of their time. Christopher Columbus represents many good things about humanity. He represents bravery, idealism, and pride, which are all qualities we appreciate in humans. If he had not had the determination
Many around the world always picture Christopher Columbus as a man who did great things for what America is today. Is that all really true? As kids, we have all, been taught that Columbus was the man who discovered America but in reality that is all a lie. Christopher Columbus was a man that made a mistake that started many issues that is still around today. Some of many things Columbus did was: he started the slave trade, he treated the Native Americans poorly, kidnapped the Tainos, and stole gold and many other items of value. Even though he did a lot of bad things not everything that Columbus did was terrible. I feel that though many things that are wrong today are his fault at the end of the day he still made America known in Europe. Christopher Columbus is a man that causes a lot of controversies but it makes a person think that was all he did worth the outcome. Bringing light to what Christopher Columbus does helps to acknowledge his legacy and what he left behind.
Christopher Columbus is a very important person in our country's history. He found the "New World," the one we live in today. He started the society that makes us who we are today, the society that allowed our ancestors to come to America and start the life that we live now. This whole world owes their lives to him. Columbus should always be remembered as a very important and very good person in history.
Christopher Columbus was famous for being the man to “discover” the New World. In America, he is widely revered as the man responsible for finding the country that exists today. Although well known for his admirable sailing skills and abilities, Christopher Columbus was anything but a hero and his legacy was nothing but a mere miscalculation. There is much more to the story of the explorer than what we were taught to believe was true. The only thing that was true was that he discovered a land that was not yet known by the “civilized” world. However, that does not cover up for the fact he was a murderer who basically erased the existence of the natives who inhabited the land previous to their arrival. To believe that every history textbook depicts him as this legendary person who discovered the Americas and his bravery was well recognized by the people that we created a
Schools in the United States teach students that Christopher Columbus discovered America. Christopher Columbus is glorified by history books and is celebrated in holiday called Columbus Day. The federal holiday gives students a day off to honor Christopher Columbus and his heroic achievement of discovery. However, the horrible truth is that he is not a hero and a great explorer he is portrayed to be. Christopher Columbus should not be considered a hero because he invaded America, killed many Native Americans and was a greedy person.
Columbus was an illustrious hero in America history books since most people didn't know the truth. But as time goes and people begin to read, they realized that he was the person who discovered America. He set sail on a dangerous journey across the Atlantic Ocean with three ships: the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. His crew almost called a revolution, but then land was spotted in 1492
Many people in this world don’t have the correct knowledge of what has happened in the past. There has been a lot of misconceptions that people have about North America. A common misconception that has spread throughout the world is that Christopher Columbus discovered America. That statement is more than 100% false. Christopher Columbus never set a foot in North America. He landed in the Caribbean islands and and explored the Central and South American coasts. He didn’t reach North America, which was already discovered by the Native Americans.
When I was younger, my teachers used to tell of this great man that explored the world in search of a new route to Asia, how brave and fearless he was. I was taught that he discovered the Americas, not only was that a misunderstanding, but come to find out that most things I had learned in school were people trying to turn Columbus into this hero that never existed. They would talk of the variety of goods, plants, animals, spices, and land that he had discovered. I used to look up to Christopher Columbus and strived to be like him, but then I grew up and learned the hard truth.
Christopher Columbus is known for his discovery of the United States of America. His discovery changes a lot of things for many explorers. In A People's History of the United States, written by Howard Zinn, Zinn describes Columbus as a man who
