There are many definitions of terrorism as well as types that fill our society. The individual definitions are different from each other because people grow up in different cultures and form different opinions; however, more organized are the different types of terrorism because they are grouped with similar topics.
Religious-Secular Religious terrorism is the act of terrorism that is done for a religious purpose or for a divine cause. This type of terrorism is often associated with the groups of people that are willing to die for a specific cause and/or religion in attempt to earn religious benefits after death. Secular terrorism uses political topics to rally a group of people and their actions often

Common examples are school or event shootings or bombings. These terroristic acts can be the most devastating because the media will cover what happens and the psychological effect will spread to another who follows the media. Suicide-other The act of a suicide attack takes some elements from other types and can coincide with them. The basic principle of a suicide attack is to go into a plan in which the ultimate goal is to die for a cause. Most common is the suicide bombing in which people attach bombs to themselves and go into an area with only one goal, cause mass destruction and ending their life.
State Sponsored-other The act of State Sponsored terrorism is when an organization that attempts acts of terrorism is fueled, funded, supported by a state. These acts of terrorism may be the scheming of a government; however, the government does not want to be directly doing the activity. Sometimes government agents are directly in charge of these acts of terrorism. Often governments use this type of terrorism to start a war, sway politics/debates, gain advantage, or make money.
1972 Munich Olympics hostage crisis The Munich Olympics hostage crisis of 1972 was an attack during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. The attack was on eleven Israeli Olympic team members, they were taken hostage and then killed. This attack was done by the Palestinian group Black
Terrorism is an act that threatens or carries out violence with the intention to disrupt, kill or coerce against a body or nation in order to impose will. This means that a lot of groups use this method to get what they want. The groups use a variety of methods, groups such as:
Religious terrorism is a sort of political viciousness inspired by a flat out conviction that an extraordinary force has endorsed and charged terrorist violence
Terrorism is defined as an act of violence that is committed by an organization or a single person in order to be heard. Terrorist acts are usually based on a couple factors such as, historical grievances, foreign policy decision, poverty, and religion. Terrorism is not a new act amongst the world but something that has been around since the beginning. To understand a criminal you must think like a criminal, and understand why they committed a crime or a violent act, then you can prevent and conquer.
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines terrorism as the use of violence, or threatened use of violence, in order to achieve a political or religious goal. Terrorism is committed by groups that view themselves as victimized by a historical wrong. These groups of people will most likely have no formal connection to the government. Terrorism comes from the Reign of Terror initiated by Maximilen Robespierre during the French Revolution. The beginning of terrorism goes all the way back to the first
Terrorism refers to the use of threat and violence to frighten and coarse mainly for political reasons. A group that practises the vice is the Al-Qaeda.
There have been various definitions and views of terrorism that have beenfronted over the years. It has been described as a strategy and at other levels as a tactic, some have called it a crime and yet other refer to it as a holy/noble duty; some consider it an inexcusable abomination yet others consider it a systematic reaction to oppression. Obviously, a lot depends on whose point of view is being represented, be it theological, political or psychological. Also terrorism can be seen as willful destruction (killing) of people or destruction of property by people not acting on behalf of an established government to redress a real or imaginary injustice attributed to an established government. However it is important to note that not all cases of willful destruction of people or property are acts of terrorism (Red Cross Organization, 2007).
In order to determine whether an action is a terrorist act or not, terrorism must first be defined. Terrorism is the use or threatening the use of violence as a weapon to influence a person or a group of people to change policies or influence decisions according to the terrorist’s desires. The terrorist can be a single person acting on personal wishes or a group of people with an ultimate goal. The goals of a terrorist are normally political, ideological, or religious in nature.
Terrorism is a significant and recurring situation that has changed the lives of people around the world, overwhelming them with fear and uncertainty of their future. It has become part of our daily lives today as we are still fighting wars to resolve many of the issues that began with the 9/11 attacks on the United States. Terrorism does not have a definitive definition but must meet certain conditions for it to be considered terrorism. There has to be a reason for an act that is deemed political, and it must affect the lives of innocent people, putting a sense of fear into them (Combs, Slann, “Terrorism”). Not only may the reason behind an act be political, but it could also be seen as religious as well (Sterba). Since the 9/11 attacks, terrorism
What exactly is terrorism? “Terrorism is commonly defined as violent acts (or the threat of violent acts) intended to create fear (terror), perpetrated for a religious, political, or ideological goal, and which deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants, civilians.” The intent of terrorist groups differ vastly depending on the situation they are in and the message they want to send. Terrorists use violence for many things including: to produce widespread fear, obtain recognition for their cause through the media, to weaken the government, to free prisoners, to satisfy vengeance, and to influence government decisions. Ideology and motivation also influence the objectives of terrorist groups, particularly regarding the casualty rate. Secular terrorist groups
The term "terrorism" means premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents.
There are generally four repeating common themes used to define terrorism: (1) the use or threat to use violence; (2) a political objective; (3) with intent to spread fear through a public act; (4) with the intent to commit violence against civilians (Various, n.d.). Additionally, these themes are promoted mostly by non-democratic societies or dictatorships that advance their goals through state sponsored terrorism. State sponsored terrorism is not conducted by democratic regimes for if they truly suppressed their people through acts of terrorism then they would no longer be democratic (Various, n.d.). Terroristic acts involving the slaughter of innocent men, woman and children from all sides are often justified or legitimatized by the accustomed morals and values of each group. Although there is extensive literature on the subject of terrorism, no common or universal definition for the term exists.
If one were to ask a cross-section of individuals to define what terrorism means, there would ultimately be multiple definitions similar in many aspects but not able to be unified to create a single definition. Terrorism is a
What is terrorism, the dictionary defines it as: The use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal. The first organization that showed signs of modern terrorism were the Zealots of Judea. they were called sicarii, or “dagger-men”, they made a plan to assassinate Romans, and any Jews that were helping the Romans. Their thought was the romans could not be faithful to Judaism. The Zealot’s were found out, and they committed mass suicide at Masada.
The concept of terrorism as defined by Hoffman in his book, Inside Terrorism, is not easily defined. Hoffman indicates that most definitions do not give the word “terrorism” a clear definition for today (Hoffman 2006). However, according to Hoffman, the Oxford English Dictionary does provide a definition that embodies terrorism since its beginnings. “Any one who attempts to further his views by a system of coercive intimidation.” (Hoffman 2006, 3). The views that are typically political or idealogical in nature (Hoffman, 2006, 2-3).
Terrorism is a term the world hears more than we want to. ISIS is making its headlines and bringing fear into the world. Fear is what terrorist thrive on and it is key to get policy makers attention. Defining terrorism is difficult because it has so many factors but it simply has one key point and that is the act of violence. Violence is used by small groups to achieve political change and it goes back to state violence against citizens during French Revolution and historically that is how terrorism has come to be defined.
