The Ultimate Collection by George Gershwin
George Gershwin's "The ultimate collection", is a compilation of Gershwin's greatest hits. The compilation is made out of two CD's; the first cd is Gershwins pieces sung by different jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby and more… The second cd, is Gerswhin's famous pieces taken from musical shows such as Porgy and Bess, Rhapsody in Blue, Cuban overture, Funny face and more. First Cd:
The cd starts with the song "Strike up the Band " performed by Oscar Peterson. The piece consists of a piano, cello. This song in my opinion sets the mood of the cd. It represents pure jazz music without the vocals.

Very mellow song, very enjoyable.
" S' wonderful" performed by Joe William & Count Basie, one of my favorite songs composed by Gerswhin. Use of typical instruments for jazz songs (drums, pianos, trumpets…). This song has a very party mood; it is a very upbeat song. The next couple of songs, are basic love songs/blues songs.
"For you, for me, forever more" performed by Morgan King, in my opinion this song repeats itself from the other love songs, still great performance by Morgan King. "Who Care's" the title for the song speaks for itself, im getting slowly disappointed of the first cd, the songs basically repeat themselves, same themes (mostly about love), same kind of instruments used in each song.
"They All laughed" performed by Bing Crosby and Buddy Bergman, great song, very enjoyable and upbeat tune. This song is short but very good. Orchestral work done very well. This Cd ends with "Embreaceble you" performed by Ella Fitzgerald, i feel very neutral towards this song, it basically concludes the first cd in a good way. In conclusion for the first cd, i really enjoyed the first parts, the upbeat tunes, and the "jazzy" songs, i was just disappointed in the second half; for the reason that it was very
There was no theme to the music that was played. The concert involved different genres of jazz, including Latin, contemporary, big band, and Dixieland. I felt that there was a good mix of songs and it did not affect the concert since there was no theme.
Every admirer of jazz loves to hear compositions from the olden days. Depending on your mood, you might like to have a variety to choose from. The following compositions offer you jazzy compositions played as solos or with bands with some of the top composers of all times. Whether you feel down and out of the weather or want to relax and listen to something romantic you will find the right piece of music amongst these compositions.
The band was directed by Jordan Sayre and Arnold Rose. The band started off with “Perdido Arranged by Roland Barret/Juan Tizol”. For a high school band they had very strong beginning, the song was very fast tempo, and lots of bold accents through the piece. The tenor sax was really the star of this piece the band was really following him instead the tenor sax kind of keeping time and beat. The band played about 2 more songs and LCHS Jazz I came on to stage about played another 3 songs as well. One the played was Called “The Chicken arranged by Kris Berg/Alfred James”. This songs included a lot of saxophones solos from alto sax to baritone sax. The trumpet also played a big part to for solo, this piece they did lot of crescendos as well as decrescendos. It gave a more bold jazz feeling which I really enjoyed. Last but not least the NMSU jazz I came about on the stage to finish out the concert. They had four songs to play instead of three like the other bands. They started off with “Cell Talk composed by Sammy Nestico”. This piece was a calmer piece like a modern typical jazz piece. There was great transitions as well bold accents through the pieces. The band ends with a piece called “Uno Mas composed by Paul Lopez”. This piece was more fast tempo as well bold accents was well especially from the trumpets. It gave me more a swing vibe it was super neat to hear. This piece was perfect
was such a huge success selling over two million copies of sheet music world wide.
The piece was a form of the blues type of jazz, a form that was dominant at the end of the 19th century. Being part of the blues music, it focused on harmonizing with the three principal chords throughout the entirety of the song. It brought excitement and variety to the piece and keeping the audience as well as the ensemble itself on our feet. In addition to the harmonization the ensemble was able to take the form of a loose narrative, often relating the troubles experienced in a society.
The next song, called Four Times Five, was quite different from the first. Written by a modern composer, the song had a very different feeling from any other they played in the show. When they played
The dynamics of the album helped to popularize it and establish Parton’s musical abilities. The album includes 14 different tracks spanning within less then 30 minutes. The album contains a variety of
The concert night began with almost 20 minutes of performances by The Jazz Band that performed five songs: “Choo Choo Ch” (Horton et al., 1946),“Dreamsville” (Mancini, 1960), “Work Song” (Adderley,
The Jazz Ensemble consisted of two saxophone groups of different parts, trumpets, two trombone groups of different parts, a drumset, a piano, a guitar, a bass guitar, and vibes. Their first song was upbeat and contemporary, their second song was a samba, and the last song had a New Orleans style. The Symphonic Band played a march as their first song, a traditional Irish song, after that, a rhythmic, then, a contemporary song, and lastly a Christmas medley. The Symphonic Band included flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, french horn, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. Both bands had good rhythm, style, blending memorization, and ensemble precision. Dynamics were hard to notice because the instruments are loud in general, but they are especially loud all together. The band was also presented in the Performing Arts Center of Smithville High School, but they sat in chairs unless their instruments prevented them from doing so. Most band members were very difficult to see. The stage presence of the Jazz Ensemble was more engaging because they seemed like they were allowed to get into the music more than the Symphonic Band. The band was very uniform. The songs were performed very
The next song on the playlist was called “Everything Happens To Me”. The texture to this was very soft as well. The instruments were playing off each other but it was still a freestyle type of song. I think jazz is generally played like freestyle. There was no melody to this song. The rhythm was not existent as well. It was more of a free flowing song. This song had a very quiet dynamic. It sounded very romantic like something out of a movie. The tempo of the song was very slow and mild but the trumpet was going very fast. The cello and the drums had a portion of the song where they fed off each other’s energy and the trumpet was doing its own thing.
One of the most important aspects of a Broadway Musical is the music. As we have learned through this course, a Broadway Musical is more complex than a regular theater show. The added musical component, when executed properly, adds further depth which can completely transform a show. Making sure that the music and playbook work together, and that the music is catchy and well written are essential parts of the success of a show. George and Ira Gershwin knew how to coordinate their work in such a way. George (composer) and Ira (lyricist) Gershwin would come to be one of the most well-known composer/lyricist pairings of Broadway. Their work would go on to become the personification of Broadway, which would “…define how Broadway musicals would be written and developed in the Golden Age of musicals from the
The sixth song was in blues style. The Name of the Song was, “I’ll see you in my dreams”. Just bass guitar, saxophone, drum, and keyboard were playing. It was short piece song but just enough time to feel blues. This piece was one of few slow tempo songs in this concert. The mix of bass guitar, saxophone, drum, and keyboard articulated
Songs featured from these musicals include "Clap Yo' Hands," "Strike Up the Band" and one which has enjoyed a recent resurgence in popularity, "Someone to Watch Over Me."
“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band:” Just a quick track to introduce the album. It’s got a lot of interesting sound effects and beats going on in the background. Just a funky way to kick off the album and I’m a fan.
First work they played is called Three pieces from Op. 10 by Carl Maria von Weber. The songs they played is Moderato, Andantino con moto, Rondo-Allegro . Weber is a German composer and an opera director. These pieces were easy to listen to. I enjoyed listening the opening pieces. It was interesting singing the pianists were in synced with each other. In Moderato it feels like the pianist is talking to each other. Like one is playing and the other is playing something different. In addition , Andantino con moto and Rondo-Allegro the song is more of an upbeat type of song. The type of music in opening was a quiet, but fast.
