The Varying Aspects of Kidney Sales

Abstract A major topic that has been extremely controversial is the sale of organs and the numerous factors of why someone would consider it. This article focuses on the various arguments that have been used to support why the sale of organs should be prohibited and why these reasons are considered invalid. Radcliffe-Richards et al. (1998) whom are the authors of the selected text, The Case for Allowing Kidney Sales, believe that the sale of organs should be regulated instead of banned until there is a sufficient argument that provides an ample amount of evidence to why it should be prohibited. Benjamin Hippen (2014) also discusses various reasons as to why one might consider selling a kidney and turning to a market in order to obtain or sell one. He also discusses how there should be trials of how the market would be run to provide data in regards to whether or not it would be feasible. Erin & Harris (2003) are also in support of having a black market as long as there are some structured provisions in regards to the central organization of the market.

The Varying Aspects of Kidney Sales A significant issue is that kidney transplants have become much harder to receive due to the limited supply and the high demand. Thousands of people will be placed on a waiting list for an organ transplant and unfortunately will be on that list for months
