The world today consists of children roaming the streets, technology taking over the world, and being able to work wherever you'd like but, could you imagine a life without all these things? Believe it or not there was a time in life where these things were very uncommon to see. This would be known as the victorian era. This time period was between 1837 and 1901. Daily life was very different from now. Health, social classes, and fashion are just three examples of how daily life was different in the victorian era.

The Victorian Era was a time of wide extremes. elegant city streets, gas lamps, and in contrast grinding poverty. It was also a time of exploration and invention. With their pioneer spirit wild frontier towns were born across the world. and with their flare and ingenuity the Victorians took with them their values and elegance. (Matthew Arnold) Though Victorian period was influenced by the reform act 1832 and subsequent acts, yet this period also marked by extreme diversities with the industrial reforms, cultural progress, scientific advancement on one hand and poverty and wars on the other.

“The empire on which the sun never sets” was used to describe the British empire during Queen Victoria’s reign, also known as the Victorian Era. Queen Victoria assumed control of her reign at the young age of eighteen, and her successful reign lasted for over sixty years. Britain was an extremely large empire during Queen Victoria’s rule; her ruling was filled with powerful changes, politically and economically, and advancements that left a lasting impact. While the Victorian era was an important era, many aspects of it are unique in relation to today’s times. For example, the food eaten during the Victorian era was quite different than the food eaten in today’s period. During the Victorian era, the various social classes ate different types of food. There were three different social classes: the lower class, the middle class, and the upper class. The people of each class’s meals depended on the ingredients available for their circumstances (Brookfield). From the lower class, who ate low-quality food, to the higher class, who ate high-quality food, the type of food and amount of food affected the people of each social class in many ways.

The Victorian Era or the romantic period was a time in which Queen Victoria ruled the throne. The Victorian period formally began in 1837 the year in which Victoria became the Queen of England and ended in 1901 the year in which she was laid to rest. In this paper, I will discuss Queen Victoria’s life or what we all know to be “The Victorian Era.” I will highlight some of the most powerful events that occurred during this time, the many reforms that were passed during Queen Victoria’s ruling, I will discuss the political, cultural, and social developments of this time period. I will speak about some inventions of the Victorian Era, and the two main political parties better known as the Tory and Whigs that were popular during this age. You will discover what imperialism is, the commonwealth, The British Monarch and why and how Victoria was such a remarkable monarch. I will even tell you some of the most interesting facts that I have learned to be true about Queen Victoria.

After William IV died, his niece, Victoria, became the Queen of England, starting the victorian era. In Victoria’s reign, the British Empire came to cover over ¼ of the world. The Industrial revolution is created during her reign, producing more products available to the common people of England. On the down side, people working in the mill had a hard life.

The Victorian era refers to the sixty-three-year reign of Queen Victoria of Great Britain, from 1837-1901. From a huge population boom in Great Britain to technological improvements that changed the way people lived, to the increasingly noticeable differences between the wealthy and the working poor, the 19th Century saw more profound social and political developments than any century before.

Queen Victoria is one of the most well-known historical monarch in human history, she made the British Empire into the main world power during her time and ushered in the famous Victorian era during the 1800s. The Victorian era is known by scholars to be the Pax Britannia of the English people, it is a period that was filled with highly moralistic language and sense of morality that is sharply different from British culture before the rise of Queen Victoria. The industrial revolution was in full bloom during the Victorian era, which saw most of the Europe and the Americas to become fully industrialized or on their way of becoming fully industrialized. The Victorian Era, was an era of etiquette, manners, clothes, money, social activity and tea parties. Etiquette, manners, clothes, and money were all the victorian era was about. Men, women, and children were all different and had different roles in Victorian society. Clothes stated who you were and how much money you had. Men and women had to dress more appropriate and social, but children were a tad bit more free clothing choices, to a certain age.

The Victorian Era brought momentous change in industry, in society, in almost every facet of life for the people under the dominion of Great Britain. The Victorians seem to be on a mission to find their selves and make sense of their brave New World. They were living in a time of great transition, "we are of the time of chivalry... we are of the age of steam" (Thackeray, quoted in Henderson and Sharpe, p 1049). This is the world of John Stuart Mill, a man with many ideas considered both a genius and radical in his time; that would be more comfortable in the late 20th century.
