For many African Americans, the war offered an opportunity to get out of the cycle of crushing rural poverty. Black joined the military in large numbers, escaping a decade of Depression and tenant farming in the South and Midwest. Yet, like the rest of America in the 1940s, the armed forces were segregated. The Army accepted black enlistees but created separate black infantry regiments and assigned white commanders to them. Of the more than 2.5 million African Americans who registered for the draft in WWII, about 900,000 served in the Army. But about only 50,000 African Americans were allowed to serve in combat.

African Americans served valiantly and with unique excellence in each theater of World War II, while all the while battling for their own social liberties from the world's most prominent majority rules system. Although the United States Armed Forces were formally isolated until 1948, WWII established the framework for post-war reconciliation of the military. In 1941 less than 4,000 African Americans were serving in the military and just twelve African Americans had gotten to be officers. By 1945, more than 1.2 million African Americans would serve in uniform on the Home Front, in Europe, and the Pacific.

African Americans became an immense part of WWII effort stateside and an active role in the United States military. African-Americans enlisted to be a part of the American Armed forces. Throughout the war, numerous bills and acts were made in order to get rid of any discrimination problems in the military. Despite given impressions that United States had on integrating soldiers into the military, segregation and discrimination still remained a part of World War II. World War I had only lasted for four years, while World War II had lasted for six years. I find it quite interesting that contrary to popular belief; the United States did not enter World War II until 2 years after the genesis of the conflict. It was only in 1941, when the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor that the United States had entered the war. World War II started in 1939 due to Germany performing an unprovoked attack on Poland. Surprisingly, only a few months later after Germany invaded Poland; the whole European continent was at war. In 1939, the United States was not ready to go to war. In the early 20th century, the United States Army only ranked 39th in the world. Many Americans believed that the United States could not handle another global conflict right after the Great Depression. Although the United States was not 'officially ' part of the war at that time, that did not stop the United States from becoming 'unofficially ' involved.

World War II, intensified tensions between two of the strongest countries in the 1940s, the United States of America and Japan. On December 7,1941, Japanese planes and submarines attacked the American Naval base at pearl harbor, one of America’s largest bases and the largest base in the Pacific Ocean.The attack caused serious damage to the base, taking out America’s strongest battleships, killing thousands of people, and destroying hundreds of planes. America officially enters World War II. The Battle of Midway was a crucial battle in a long line of other battles fought for dominance in the Pacific Ocean. The Battle of Midway was a turning point in World War II. It was the first decisive American victory and provided a morale boost for American troops after the Pearl Harbor attack.

The Tenth’s triumphs in Italy were demonstrative of the value of specialized forces. Their success both was very influential in the events of World War II and in proving the value of specialized forces. Once the government saw how effective the focused training of this division was, they realized that a new era had begun. The Tenth Mountain Division started the period of special forces.

After World War I legacy the Great Depression brought isolationism. The best work produced by President Roosevelt was the Four Freedoms; freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. President Roosevelt was the leader of the Allies, he used this statement as part of his Allies aim. The Soviet Union joined the Allies after being invaded by Germany. Millions of art were sold and reprinted as it publicizes the Four Freedom in 1943. In 1940s after tension between the United States and Japan over East Asia, on December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. There was no warning of this attack happening as a result United States declared war on Japan. The Good neighbors policy was, brought into place by President Roosevelt and Hoover in 1930s. This was a policy that would help the relationship between Latin American countries and the Unites States. The good neighbors policy would not only help the Latin countries but also the United States with trade and military.

World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, is considered the largest armed conflict in human history. This war was fought over six different continents, in every ocean, and ultimately resulted in fifty million military and civilian deaths; including the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. Within the course of the seven-year span of fighting in the war, two decisive battles changed the tide of the war in each theater: The D-Day landings and the Battle of Midway. The invasion of Normandy occurred in the Atlantic theater whereas the Battle of Midway took place in the Pacific Theater of the war. Although these battles happened in different theaters of the war, the Allied victories sent both the Japanese and the Germans marching

World War II was a period in history which contained a motley of quarrels and conflicts. General Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower played a significant role in the theatre of World War II. In the conflict, General Eisenhower served not only as a 5 star general in the the United States Army, but also served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. As a _____ leader, General Eisenhower coined the historical term “military-industrial complex”, and also led several pivotal conflicts(??) throughout the course of the war, some of which include the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch (1942-1943) and the invasion of France and Germany from the Western Front in Operation Overlord (AKA D-Day).

The Battle of Midway was one of the most important naval battles of WWII. This three day offensive between June 4th and 7th of 1942 inflicted irreparable damage on the Japanese fleet. The Japanese sought to eliminate the America as a strategic power in the Pacific, thereby giving Japan a free lane to establish a greater dominance on the Pacific hemisphere. The plan was faulty from the start due to American code breakers who were able to decipher the date and location of the attack, forewarning the U.S. Navy to set up its own ambush. After midway and the lost of the Soloman Islands, Japans shipbuilding and pilot training programs were unable to keep pace in replacing their losses while the U.S steadily increased its output in both areas due to the increased women labor force.

“A date which will live in infamy” occurred seventy-three years ago on December 7th [1]. An unsuspecting United States naval base located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii housed the U.S. Pacific Fleet and was attacked by 353 Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes [2]. The destruction of that unforgettable day included eight battleships, three cruisers, three destroyers, 188 aircrafts, 2,403 American deaths, and 1,178 wounded [3]. The “sleeping giant” was awoken, war was declared, and America was radically altered from that day forward [4].

As the Allies were eager for the war in Europe to be over, they pursued a campaign of bombings. This was especially common in the industrial centers within German borders. Although the military leaders reiterated that the loss of live incurred due to the bombings and subsequent firestorms was within the necessities of war, it was still an unpopular strategy in the minds of many in western society.

Word War II was a time that caused many people to feel a lot of tension, anxiety and concern. While some wanted power, control, and wanted the notion of superiority. Others were left feeling unsafe, scared, and were worried of what the future would bring them. The uncertainly lead many to feed off the fear and the tension among people rose. No one was to be trusted.

On December 7, 1941, the fate of the United States of America changed forever. At the time, the global conflict known as World War II had been brutally raging on for over two years. American forces had managed to stay out of the war. However, when the Japanese bombed the naval base in Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor, the Americans could no longer hold out.
