In my book, Their eyes were watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, the main character Janie dreams of finding love. In the beginning of Janie’s story Nanny caught Janie kissing Johnny Taylor. When Nanny caught Janie kissing Johnny Taylor she became afraid Janie would run off like Janie mother had. In conclusion, Nanny made the decision that Janie was to get married right away. In Janie’s first marriage was to Logan Killicks, Janie’s firs marriage was a loveless marriage. One that she did not want to be in the first place, she only did it for her Nanny. Logan Killicks had 60 acres and a mule, to Nanny who was raised in the time of slavery this was a wonderful deal that would take care of Janie. When Janie and Joe reach their destination Joe begins making his dreams his reality. However, after the town is up and thriving, Joe becomes more focused on the town then on Janie. Soon, Janie feels unappreciated by Joe, soon Joe becomes abusive mentally and sometimes physically. Janie stays married to Joe for twenty years until Joe dies. Although it is a loveless marriage that fell apart soon after Joe became mayor of Eatonville Janie stayed with Joe because she thought it was the right thing to do being the mayor’s wife. Janie has longed for love and after Joe died Janie became free in a sense to where she didn’t have to hide as much and became more involved in the town. Although, when Tea Cake comes walking into her store Janie is instantly attracted to him but he is much younger than she is and Janie doesn’t necessarily want to be in a relationship she likes having no one to tie her down. Janie has always been a possession in her last two marriages. Moreover, Janie starts getting worried when Tea Cake and her start becoming closer, she is scared Tea Cake will treat her like her last two marriages and she again will fall into a loveless
