Theoretical Setting In Elizabeth Banks's 'The Hunger Games'

Similar to several science-fiction stories, “The Hunger Games” takes place in a futuristic setting that allows us to always be fascinated with all the new technology and advancements. The Hunger Games is a dystopia set in Panem, where it consists of the wealthy Capitol and 12 districts that live in poverty. Each district is responsible for producing, procuring, or refining goods which then go to the Capital. However, some districts such as ten, eleven, and twelve are far more impoverished then wealthier districts like one, tow, and three; though, no district is nearly as wealthy as the Capital itself. “The Hunger Games” takes place in the ruins of what was once North America. Katniss’s friendship with young Rue was never given a chance to develop either, probably in an effort by the filmmakers to avoid focusing on the segregation between all of the districts. Also, I didn’t get the scenes from the control room as I thought they were pointless and added nothing to the movie. Despite these objections, the whole production was shot so effectively that it seemed that it conveyed that the districts were dark, grey, and were in living on poverty. I also felt that Elizabeth Banks did an excellent portraying the role of Effie Trinket as she added humor and a sense of the ridiculousness of Capitol life. I felt completely engaged in this world and felt the full effect of the entire movie. In this movie, “The Hunger Games” I felt that there were many valuable life lessons. One life lesson I learned was that family always comes first. Near the beginning of the movie, the day of the Reaping is held in district twelve. During the Reaping Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) picks a name from the bowl of all girl’s names, and picks Primrose Everdeen (Willow Shields). Katniss panics, and to keep her sister safe she takes her sister’s place in The Hunger Games. I thought was a very generous thing to do and showed loyalty towards her
