Video Reflection Both of the therapeutic interventions were very effective with working with the individuals, however, they both have limitations. The MST, Multi Systemic Therapy, and Phoenix Academy are both fairly new to me and can be added to my list of resources for the future. I had high hopes for both of the adolescents in the videos. However, they both had different stories and were affected differently. After watching the film, I actually read about their post life following the film. In the beginning, I thought maybe they would both have a successful recovery from their addictions. However, in the back of my mind I knew Dylan tried several different drugs such as meth, mushrooms, and marijuana. Therefore, I somewhat suspected him
The episode of Intervention was from Season 15, Episode 4-Digger and Anne which aired on March 27, 2016. Anne a middle aged woman was addicted to heroin and her husband, Digger, a middle aged man addicted to heroin. Anne uses about half a gram of heroin a day and Digger uses 4 times to 15 times a day up to 2 grams of heroin per day. Anne started her day by getting high off of heroin. Anne was in her mid teens when she started drinking, but she didn’t touch drugs. The episode never stated what Digger would do to start his day. Digger was drinking and smoking pot until he was 10 and then started using meth. Anne and Digger’s route of administration was mainly injecting the drugs. They would spend up to $300 a day on drugs. When Digger and
Most of what was depicted in his videos were also in his articles such the problem with stigma, the importance of family and community, and the depiction that those who really need treatment are seen as not needing the services. I agree with the Guiding Principles and Element by White (2007) that family and community support are important for recovery (p. 21). Also, I believe that continuity of care not only helps individuals
My favorite part in the documentary was the smudging prayer scene just after Donna’s admission of the scope and severity of her addiction and the consequences it had on her children. It is a touching and intimate moment that solidifies our understanding of the bond shared between them. From a community caring approach, I understand that we cannot change the past, nor can we change the circumstances of the children born to these situations without causing distress. We as a community can help strengthen her family by offering access to treatment programs and alternative options. One possible example is the storing of the children 's medication at their school or alternate location. Storing the kid’s medication in an alternate location would lower Donna’s temptation and reduce her risk of relapse.
The critical intervention video I chose was the birth to three years old. The video focused on soothing or calming a child that has difficult temperament. The video shows how to manage stress, upset, or arousal. Children from the age of 0-3 years old have very unbalanced nervous systems. They need caregivers to respond to their emotional distress with compassion. Babies need healthy attachment to their caregivers; this requires them to be seen, soothed, safe, and stimulated. It is difficult to do these things with children with difficult temperament because their nervous system is unbalanced. The way to resolve that is by balancing their emotional distress with active calming and soothing. If I were to intervene in a family environment when
The group session was focused on increasing motivation for treatment and recovery. Group members were to: complete “The Payoff Matrix” exercise; identify the Pros and Cons of being in recovery/continuing drug use; and discuss how to stay motivated throughout the difficult times w/o returning to the old destructive behavior. PO was on time and minimally participated in the group discussion. PO reported experiencing “extreme pain” on both of his knees, but he did not want to miss any group treatment, stated that he will schedule a knee surgery after treatment is completed. PO was able to open and honest to share and discuss his current struggles with peers, and as well as accepted the differing views of others.
What was very effective was Kelsey addressing Sara’s past trauma about her family history and social environment that influenced her to start abusing amphetamines. Towards the end of the session, Kelsey used proper open-ended questions that help Sara dig into her past trauma of substance abuse, which provide Kelsey with accurate information to assist her in her suicidal thoughts and addiction. There are little aspects that were ineffective during this session, however, becoming more knowledgeable of the psychotic disorders will truly benefit Kelsey with this population. All and all, Kelsey was an awesome example of how a substance abuse counselor should be with these types of clients. I cannot wait to see what she brings to the counseling field
Group activities included learning about the distorted thinking patterns, how it impacts on the relapse process, and discussing how to work through stressful and difficult situations without engaging in criminal behavior. Mr. Taylor moderately participated. Stated “I try to keep a gratitude journal every day. When I get away from the habit, I tend to fall right back into a negative pattern. However, it doesn’t take long to get right back to where I should be once I pick it up again”. Mr. Taylor reported going to morning self-help meeting before treatment, and that he is doing well in treatment and recovery.
Discussion: Mrs. Lachance reported that Dylan's Cogentin has been discontinued due to an adverse side effect and he is on intruniv. However, Mrs. Lachance stated that Dylan behavior continues to regress, he is easily agitated, angry and sometimes verbally antagonistic. Mrs. Lachance and Wendy are unsure of the triggers, but stated that it has been ongoing prior to the medication change. Dylan reported that he's easily agitated because his medications are ineffective and lack of sleep. Dylan was engaging, he was happy to talk about Video games with HWE and CM.
Setting events, antecedents and consequences are all included in development of a hypothesis. It restates the interfering behavior while describing the behavior and determining its function. The setting events of this behavior is he home of Emilia and her family. Emilia is tired form cleaning, cooking and watching the kids all day without adult interaction. The maintaining consequences for this behavior is that once she has an outburst, the children leave her alone and Emilia is able to resume her conversation with her husband. Based on this information and the data collected, Emilia appears to be trying to avoid the interruption from her children. She yells so she can escape their interruption. The behavior is negatively reinforced because after yells the children leave her alone so she is getting what she wants by yelling. The need to escape from the interruption is the function of the behavior. There is enough evidence to develop a hypothesis statement. One could conclude this as a hypothesis statement: In an effort to maintain adult
My scenario was about 87-year-old male it was in hospital recovering from an ankle fracture that has been repaired. He had sustained a fracture by tripping over rugs in is home. He was not weight bearing on his ankle yet. Shift report stated that he is alert and oriented times three. He has a daughter named Catherine who lives in Calgary. The task for you today is the nurse was to remove his foley catheter and to administer his anticoagulant. When entering the room, the client was clearly not alert and oriented. The first words out of his mouth were that he was in pain, and when I tried to assess his pain he held out his fully inflated catheter to me that he had ripped out. The client appeared to be suffering from delirium, which could be caused by a multitude of risk factors, including his age, the fact that he was catheterized, he had undergone surgery, and he had been hospitalized because of his surgery. The client was very panicked, was asking lots of questions, and was trying to get out of bed to go and care for his dogs.
As the increase in ethnic and racial minorities continue, so do the increase in health disparities among individuals with diabetes (Hispanic or Latino, 2014). Many interventions are currently being used in healthcare settings to help prevent further health complications among minorities with diabetes (Peek, Cargil, & Huang, 2007). A study by Peek, Cargil, & Huang (2007), titled, “Diabetes Health Disparities: A systemic Review of Health Care Interventions”, further examined the importance of education in the overall management of diabetes, and it’s improvement to better health outcomes (Peek, Cargil, & Huang, 2007). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the researchers report on its background of study, methods of study, results of study, and its ethical considerations towards diabetes health disparities.

TV again explaining his story and I immediately began to see myself in a lot of the actions that his high school self was taking, I am mediately could see myself in him. He told us about where "It all started to go wrong." And immediately the room felt like they got heavier. Even though no one was speaking or murmuring before it felt like there was a different tone of silence while he was explaining the more serious effects of his addiction. It made me really scared as well as sorry for him due to how easy it was to stray from the path that seemed so similar to my own.
1) Attachment parenting is definitely something I would use and recommend. The video states how a parent following attachment parenting should avoid interruptions during childbirth, and I believe that is something all parents should follow. Parents should try to always be there for their children, however even more during childbirth.
I completely agree with your claim regarding depression being a progressive symptom as shown in the video how depressive thoughts played a critical role in defining the feelings experienced by individuals with social anxiety disorder. Also, I believe depression can serve as an impairing symptom as it limited individuals from freely expressing themselves and grounded them to their comfort zones affecting their overall functionality in a negative manner. Furthermore, I agree with medications such as antidepressants and cognitive behavior therapy to be effective forms of treatment as the medications reduce the symptoms allowing the patients to open up while the therapy served to be beneficial in regards to alleviating the negative thoughts and
The videos “Therapeutic Communication”, “Effective Listening”, and “Nonverbal Communication” created by Indiana University have the agreement that interviewers need to possess effective communication skill needed to conduct a proper interview. In order to have effective therapeutic communication the interviewer has to be aware of the different types of communication. The videos begins with an interview being conducted of a small group of students and experts on the matter giving concreate information and patient-based experience to answer questions.
