When watching a movie sometimes there can be moments that are related to someone's life. One might say "Oh I have had such thing happened to me." Movies and books connect to people through experience that some might have experienced. People understand and enjoy their entertainment when they can relate. Not only does life relate to movies and books, but movies relate to books. There are many movies that focus on ideas of old books or old myths. The movie "Aliens vs. Predators" encounters many parallels with the myth, "Theseus and the Minotaur" because they both tell the same story in different ways. First of all, there are many character parallels in these two stories. The two main characters are Lex, in Aliens vs. Predators, and Theseus, in Theseus and the Minotaur. Both of them were sent on a mission that no one has ever …show more content…
The theme of love is portrayed in both. Romance flew around in the air between Lex and Sebastian from the first moment they saw each other. This chemistry between both kept them together and saved one of them. Lex forced herself and shot Sebastian as an alien was breeding inside of him. Ariadne fell in love with Theseus and helped him defeat the Minotaur. She went against her father to help Theseus survive in the hopes of a future with him. Theseus betrayed her and left her on the island alone. In both, humans were used as a sacrifice. In the movie, "Aliens vs. Predators", human bodies were used as a breeding temple. In the myth, Theseus and the Minotaur, the Minotaur came from a human and a bull mating. Also, both the aliens and the Minotaur, fed on human flesh which kept them alive. Human sacrifice meant peace in both. If the Predator killed the aliens it meant that there would be peace, but human bodies were used to make those aliens. Fourteen youth, seven girls and seven boys from wealthy families, were fed to the Minotaur every year and this meant
A hero accepts who he is as an individual, but strives to change himself for the better. In the epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer, the main character Odysseus is a valiant king who embarks on a life-changing voyage. While traveling from Troy back to his home in Ithaka, King Odysseus overcomes daunting obstacles, and in doing so discovers his place in the world. Odysseus is truly a heroic figure because he demonstrates courage, improves his character, and wins the support of the gods.
Movies have the ability to transport people to different times and places and distract them from ordinary everyday reality. They allow for a range of emotions to be experienced. At their core, movies examine the human condition. There are plenty of deeper truths woven into screenplays and plenty of lessons to be learned, even when an individual is solely seeking entertainment.
Theseus has many changes in his character throughout his adventures. These developments in his mindset lead him from being a depressed, weak child, to a strong leader that many look up to.
Although the best reasons for “going to the movies” are to be entertained and eat popcorn, understanding a film is actually quite complex. Movies are not only a reflection of life, they also have the capability of shaping our norms, values, attitudes, and perception of life. Through the media of film, one can find stories of practically anything imaginable and some things unimaginable. Movie-makers use their art to entertain, to promote political agendas, to educate, and to present life as it is, was, or could be. They can present truth, truth as they interpret it, or simply ignore truth altogether. A movie can be a work of fiction, non-fiction, or anything in-between. A film is an artist’s interpretation. What one takes away from a film depends upon how one interprets what has been seen and heard. Understanding film is indeed difficult.
We read the book and watched the movie. Throughout the movie there are many similarities if you pay attention closely. It doesn’t seem very similar at first glance, but everything is very well thought through. The following statements are about how the movie and book relate. “Oh Brother Where art Thou” is a replica of the book The Odyssey.
Whenever a book comes out, people will read the novel or the short story. If the story gains enough popularity, the book may become adapted to a film; however, one cannot expect what he or she saw in the book to correlate with the movie. Salvation, the book, and movie differ from each other and these differences serve more importance than the similarities do. More happens in the film than the book.
One day the Minotaur was out walking around the labyrinth. When he came across a room in a very far off passage that hasn’t been used. When the Minotaur went and checked it out he had found nothing but evidence that something was living in the room. So the minotaur decided he would come and check on the room every day to find out what was living in there. Each day he would come at a different time to try to catch it.
The movie and the book have a lot in common. These are two things that are common; they both have the same characters and two people die. In the movie and the book Johnny and Dally die. Also, in the book and movie the church gets caught on fire. Johnny dropped a cigarette and left with Dally and Pony, so the church caught on fire. These are important because the church catching on
In my opinion the movie helps to understand the situation and the topic of the novel.
Each novel and movie is different in several ways. They also contain many similarities. They consist of diverse music, opening, and a great mass of others. They also hold several similarities such as narrators, relationships, and more.
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
Film and literature are two media forms that are so closely related, that we often forget there is a distinction between them. We often just view the movie as an extension of the book because most movies are based on novels or short stories. Because we are accustomed to this sequence of production, first the novel, then the motion picture, we often find ourselves making value judgments about a movie, based upon our feelings on the novel. It is this overlapping of the creative processes that prevents us from seeing movies as distinct and separate art forms from the novels they are based on.
Films and movies hold much than we can guess, they reveal a lot of vices and rots that are happening in society. Others give a history of a particular society, its beliefs, culture and their standard of living in the society. Films are used to disclose the social responsibilities in a given season and customs, moral values, societal worries and other cultural practices.
Additionally, it is even more fascinating that not only do Greek Gods act like human; they also behave like humans: they could love, marry, produce children, and so on. However, there were problems, because although they were gods, they also were given weaknesses of humans, such as jealously, enviousness, spite, et cetera, which created immense problems by the fact that they were Gods with extreme power. Therefore, whenever they act upon hatred, much of their acts were very cruel and inhumane. Moreover, because there was such a large society of Gods, much of the Gods lives were shrouded in chaos and revenge. For instance, as described in the book Myth and Meaning, Hera was attributed towards the peacock for her ego-centric nature towards herself. She, like a peacock, tried to prove to Zeus, her husband, that she was the fairest woman in the land. Zeus, however, preferred to steal away and fantasize with other women. Then Hera, out of jealousy, who could not punish the most powerful God, instead inflicted it against Zeus’ lovers. All in all, Greek Gods and Goddesses look and act like humans would.
With the constant streaming of new movies and television shows available, moviegoers tend to watch them for fun. They see an entertaining movie about conflict that sparks the sense of adventure in them. But do they really grasp what the movie can teach the viewers? With today’s society, the themes are lost in the entertainment purposes. However, books have developed to do what a movie does and so much more. In this way books give life to all people that read them.
