The old version of attendance checking system of University of Sulaimaniyah is completely in manual process. All the student information is totally filled and checked by teacher and system manager. Although the system is work step by step, it still has a few problems that interrupt the performance of the attendance checking system. The problems are:
• The process is performed very slowly.
• The mistakes in absentee rate might be occurred as the paper form can be lost.
• In some cases, some teachers have problem of writing the student’s name correctly. This is mean wrong spelling or bad handwriting which leads to difficulty for the system manager to enter the data.
• The form is sometimes incomplete where some fields cannot be completed such as date, subject name, teacher name and section.
• The system manager may make mistakes when calculating the absentee rate for each student. However, the calculation process is quite involved because there is a significant amount of addition, division and multiplication.
• Students may not see the notice board that announces the attendance warnings.
• The paper form may not have enough space to record all absent students’

Student attendance is important to reaching key academic milestones, graduating from high school and having access to opportunities as adults. Studies show that students who are chronically absent (miss 18 days or more during the school year for any reason) are less likely to graduate from high school. SPS Housing and Education Manager Kathlyn Paananen speaks to the significance of caring adults in a student’s life as having a proven, positive impact on student success, “Best practices to address attendance include having a supportive community that positively reinforce regular school attendance!”
In the case of late departure and arrival, the school should be informed by the relevant staff on the trip and parents should be notified for security reasons.

While studying or even registering for a class presents a challenge to some college students, the greatest obstacle remains, going to class. Attending college is supposed to signify a new found freedom to make many important choices regarding education without high school mandatory attendance policies. However, students everywhere are coming to the staggering realization that college is not too different from high school. Teachers still take class roll and students are still expected to be at every class on time. What next, hall monitors in the hall? The time has come for action to be taken. Colleges must abolish mandatory student attendance policies for several reasons to be further discussed.
All unscheduled absences after the official discussion date leads to disciplinary action. The employee is now ready for disciplinary action. The employee is again called into the office for a P.D.I., which is a PreDisciplinary Interview. A union representative can be present, at the employee’s request. The P.D.I. gives the employee the opportunity to defend him or herself as to why they have demonstrated unacceptable attendance. All P.D.I. do not necessarily lead to discipline. It is Management’s discretion. The employee is asked a series of questions as to who, what, when, where and why. After the interview the employee is informed that they will receive a Letter of Warning for Failure to Be Regular in Attendance. The Letter of Warning is the first step in progressive discipline. It is formulated and it includes the following: All unscheduled absences for the last six (6) months are listed, with dates and hours used.
