Thomas Jefferson: A Founding Father There are a quite a few Founding Fathers that created this nation. At the age of 9 he officially began his studies. He continued through boarding school until he was sixteen all the while excelling in the classical languages. Thomas Jefferson owed his fortune to his father, Peter Jefferson who was a planter of some means and very little is actually known of his mother Jane Randolph Jefferson who died in 1776. In the year 1757 Peter Jefferson passed away leaving Thomas Jefferson more than 7,000+ acres of land in Western Virginia. The year 1760 came and Jefferson enrolled in the College of William and Mary, taking various classes of science, mathematics, rhetoric, philosophy, and literature. During this time, few young adults could actually afford the same quality and personal education that Thomas Jefferson did. While these years were going on, he met and fell in love with twenty-three year old Martha Wayles Skelton, who was a wealth widow and daughter of a prominent Virginia lawyer and landowner. Skelton’s first husband and their infant son had died years prior. Thomas and Martha were married on January 1, 1772, moving into Monticello, Jefferson’s one-room brick Virginia plantation home.

Thomas Jefferson captured the presidency in 1800 by running a campaign grounded in eighteenth century republican orthodoxy. He promoted slashing government spending, paying off the national debt, scaling back the professional military in favor of militias, and most importantly, returning to the ideals of the revolution. Reaffirming the guidance Washington offered in his farewell address the new President swore to avoid “entangling alliances” with foreign powers, and professed war to be antithetical to liberty. He thought the U.S. could distance itself from the European great power rivalries while prospering from free trade with all nations. Jefferson shared a common sentiment of the day among Americans; the U.S. was morally superior to their
Throughout America history many people tried really hard to make things their way. President, spokesmen and others on the government board works in their own way to balance out the majority rule and the rights of the minority. John C. Calhoun was spokesman of the south and Richard Hofstadter evaluation on his concepts of minority right and equality and how it played a role in America history.

Most Americans know who the founding fathers are. But, not many know what they have done for us and how hard they have worked to be a part of the American Revolution. Subconsciously, each of these men had a great impact on the revolution that started this country. Thomas Jefferson loved education and was well known for being the true author of the Declaration of Independence and for his wisdom. Benjamin Franklin, respectfully known as a diplomat, was also known as a great inventor, printer, and writer. Thomas Paine was a spectacular journalist who is best known for his anonymous pamphlet called “Common Sense.” Through these great men, our country rose.
As in the words of Joseph J. Ellis, author of A Legacy of Myth and Contradiction, Thomas Jefferson was a "flawed great man." Jefferson's greatest flaw was the contradiction between his words and actions. For example, as the author of the Declaration of Independence, he stated that all men are created equal. This is negated by the fact that he owned many slaves of his own and refused to emancipate them. Jefferson might have been flawed as all great men are, but we cannot allow these flaws to cloud his influence on modern politics. He taught future presidents that the best way to manipulate people is to remind them that it is okay to have different opinions because everyone ultimately wants the same result. For instance, in 2007 President Obama promised he would completely remove troops from Iraq. This promise significantly boosted polls in Obama’s favor because the removal of Iraqi troops is a topic that more than half of the country agrees on. This relates back to Jefferson’s teaching because like Jefferson, Obama made a promise that
